Jamie Muscato, Melissa James and Matt Rixon have joined the cast of Moulin Rouge in London. I have never seen the film nor the musical and went into it blind. Now that I've seen it, what are my thoughts on this musical?

So funny you just uploaded this, I’m taking my mom to see it tomorrow at the Smith Center here in Vegas. I saw the show a few months ago with my boyfriend at the Pantages in Hollywood and absolutely loved it. My boyfriend does not at all like the movie but LOVED the musical. I do understand your points of sometimes unsure if you should laugh at some songs. Crazy/Rolling is such a really great number but yes at the start I heard a few giggles. But overall I had such an incredible time watching it. The spectacle of it even in the touring version was absolutely incredible. After “Backstage Romance” at the start of act two my entire audience gave it a full standing ovation for at least a minute or more. And again at the end and stayed standing throughout “More More More! (Encore)” which left everyone with a big smile on their face. My favorite costumes to see also are the Can-Can girls. I always have a love to see a colorful well done Can-Can. It’s such a classic form of dance that’s still so fun to watch. After seeing the show with my boyfriend I told him immediately “I want to take my mom” knowing it would be touring here in Vegas come January. I bought her tickets for Christmas and she’s very excited to go. I can’t wait! As always, love your videos! Always enjoy seeing you pop up on my feed. I just watched your Matilda differences video last night before I got to bed. Keep up the awesome content! ❤ Edit: oh! And the movie is good. I recommend skipping “like a virgin….” Which in my opinion kills the entire mood of the second half of the movie. I rewatched with my boyfriend after we saw the show and I made the decision to fast forward through that moment. He actually agreed it’s a stronger film without it. I even looked at him during Roxanne and said “you know from here on it’s a really damn good movie (sans like a virgin)” lol. It’s mainly Baz Luhrmann’s style of directing that I see why turns some people off. He likes to direct his movies very fast paced lots of camera angle changes at very quick pace and an almost cartoonish feel to the front quarter to front half of his movies. But then goes into a more dramatic style with less camera changes and not the same cartoon like feeling. I love the Great Gatsby which he also directed and that same exact style comes through. Also the movie Australia. Very fast paced cartoon like start and then into the romantic dramatic second half. Give moulin rouge a watch if nothing more than to compare. Could make a fun video ;)

So I've not seen the musical onstage but I would LOVE to see it as I am an avid fan of the movie (now you've seen the musical on stage I would deffo recommend watching the movie as it is an overwhelming experience but fantastic. IN my opinion one of the best movie musicals around). In terms of your comment on the songs, I get what you mean but I think this is telling as its trying to be reminiscent to the movie as it was directed by Baz Luhrmann and obviously his movies can be chaotic (I remember once taking a friend of mine to see The Great Gatsby (directed by him with me) and they said they felt it was that chaotic it felt like he was drunk watching the film). But the thing with Moulin Rouge is the movie has tonally very different songs as it had a mashup of iconic songs and hits of the time including stuff like "Here we are now.. Entertain us" and "Like a Virgin" by Madonna to then more poetic songs like "Your Song" and "Come What May". So oddly enough whilst I get what you mean I do think the songs do work as its trying to have that essence of what the original movie had and take you on a journey. I hope that makes sense?

I saw it a few weeks ago, and whilst I enjoyed it, I didn't love it. But you're thoughts on it have made me appreciate it a little more now, so thank you :)
