Testing Cheap Photography Gear from Five Below
If you're anything like me, you love a good bargain. As a full-time photographer, I’m always on the lookout for affordable gear that can add a little extra something to my shots without breaking the bank. Recently, I stumbled upon Five Below, a store known for its wide range of products, where almost all are priced at five dollars or less. Intrigued by the idea of finding some hidden gems, I decided to put their photography gear to the test. Here’s how it went.
Five Below is a popular discount store that offers a variety of items, from toys and tech accessories to fitness gear and home decor. As the name suggests, everything in the store is priced at five dollars or less, making it a haven for bargain hunters. The store’s selection of photography gear caught my eye, so I picked out seven different products to test.
My first impression was one of curiosity and excitement. Could such inexpensive gear really deliver decent results? I started by testing a compact, travel-friendly tripod, a clip-on LED light, and several other gadgets that promised to enhance my photography experience. Each product had its quirks, but I was eager to see how they performed in real-world situations.
As I tested these items, I found that some were surprisingly useful, while others were less impressive. There were a few duds in the mix, too. One of the products I tried out wasn’t as stable or reliable as I’d hoped, making it less useful for more demanding shoots. However, given the low cost, I wasn’t too disappointed. After all, part of the fun of shopping at Five Below is the thrill of discovering what works and what doesn’t without a significant investment.
The biggest takeaway from this experiment was that you don’t need to spend a fortune to find useful photography tools. While none of these products will replace my professional equipment, they offer great value for their price and are perfect for casual photography or as backups when traveling.

I discovered a few hidden gems that I’ll definitely keep using, and I got to enjoy the process of experimenting with new tools.
