I agree that we should wear what we love regardless of what we are told we should. If you put something on and it makes you feel good, wear it! It’s that simple.

janetp5956 I agree with your comment 100%. What colors you choose, what style you choose, is personal to you and should not be dictated by someone else's idea of what or how you should present yourself. And it IS that simple!

The answer is simple ..... Get your colours done which will give you the best colours that make you look fabulous. Then, ask your analyst about some of your favourite items (take your items with you which can help!). I love both fuchsia and bright orange ..... Fuchsia looks fab but honestly I look like I haven't slept in days with orange. My analyst was fabulous ..... Found me the best colour of orange for me, and was able to help me with a couple of navy and soft whites to wear near the face so I could wear the orange. Definitely the style is far more important than colour though!!

You nailed it perfectly…. I use to do people’s colours/colors years ago for a living and over the years with a lot growth and maturity I have come to the conclusion that we should really wear what makes us happy and feel good. It’s just a guideline, life is short break the color wheel so to speak and enjoy…. Clothing and makeup are to be fun and creative…💜

Having auburn hair most of my life I gravitated to earth colors and neutrals which I loved. So now I’m 84 and am now in the process of embracing my gray hair. I realize now that the warm colors I used to wear do not flatter me at all. I am slowly changing to more jewel tones, blues, greens, magenta and black and white. I am really starting to like my new look.

Obviously one can wear whatever they want. Having had my colors done Years ago, I found that it’s more than just the color. It’s how you wear that color. Most colorist today will also give styling advise which is very helpful. I have pretty much stuck with my “colors” and always feel put together. When I’ve tried to venture outside of those colors; like wearing colors more suited to a winter, I don’t feel as good in them. When I’ve purchased something and it sits in my closet and I don’t choose to wear it, usually I discover it’s the color I don’t really feel good wearing. While I admire it on someone else, I don’t like it on me.

I loved the chartreuse dress on you - modern Marilyn Monroe! And strangely enough, the counterpoint of your hair color and style makes the whole look pop! Artists respond viscerally to colors - whether they want to wear them or look at them. Don't ever close yourself into some box of what women are "supposed to wear" by season. Wear what makes you feel good - moods change and you may need that yellow lift from time to time.

When I married, one of our shower gifts was “Free Color Analysis”. It changed my life. It gave me so much confidence to know that even on my off days I knew that I looked good because I was wearing the right color. That was 38 years ago and I am still using my color analysis at 76 years young when putting an outfit together whether it is casual or formal. Love it. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. With the colour charts, it is about being very specific about the tones and shades of each colour that is suggested for you. It is not simply yellow or orange, it is the very specific shades. Lemon yellows are for cooler toned complexions and warm yellows for warmer skin. Similarly for all the colours. It’s all in the details.

I have had my color analysis done a few times. Usually I fall into a winter category. I use it as a basic guide, but not even my hair color falls into my colour analysis results right now. I think it can be a good foundation to work with, but by no means is it a hard and fast rule. Also, considering that Ive had my analysis done multiple times by different establishments and they haven't all arrived at the same conclusion, I take the entire thing with a grain of salt.

I am trained in doing color analysis for over 20 yrs. I agree 💯👍 with not getting married to your "season". I am a classic Winter. Just a key thing to keep in mind... whatever is closest to your face makes the biggest impact. Translation, wear an "off color season" and drape a "your color season" with a scarf, jewelry, or earrings from your palette. Mix spring with autumn, winter with summer. They fall into the same color families. Again, keep your season closest to your face. Gold jewelry is spring and autumn/Silver is summer and winter. Then last of all, wear anything you want!!! Have fun with it all. 🤗

The color analyst I worked with showed me the colors that “make me “sparkle,” but she also always says, “Wear what you love.” Her system breaks it down to more than 4. I’m a true summer. I know those colors make me shine and help with my dark circles and so forth, so I like to wear them. Beautiful people like you can get away with a lot more because you rarely look bad. Thank you Nikol! I also went to a local stylist for House of Colour, and low and behold found I was actually a Summer after years of thinking I was an Autumn. The reason I went to do this after 30 + years as an Autumn, was that I was drawn to colors not necessarily in my palette. Like you, I did not just purge all of my "non-season" colors, but instead, started making changes to what I wore near my face, and gradually was able to keep some of the Autumn staples and release others from my wardrobe. Many thanks for doing this video - I absolutely love it!

The problem I have with the color thing is trying to find clothes in my colors. It's very hard. It seems most clothing comes in black, white, beige and ivory. I found several dresses on line this summer which only came in black or white, which I don't want. I bought a couple of the white dresses and dyed them to the exact color I wanted. They turned out beautiful. That's how I solved the problem for me.

Color trends are always determined by the annual Milan, Paris, NY fashion shows. Buy what you like & looks good on your silhouette, with your complexion, hair/eye color. If you buy every season, then you'll have a variety to choose from even when the colors you like aren't trendy. It's called building a wardrobe -- rotate your color palette; be adventurous & open-minded; experiment with colors/styles. Remember to include the classics: blazers (especially navy, grey, black, herringbone, beige/brown); footwear (pumps, boots, sandals, sneakers); slacks (denim in black, white, blue; wool, cotton, corduroy pants) dresses & skirts & classic silk blouses or cashmere/wool/cotton sweaters (turtleneck, crew neck, mock turtleneck, cardigan); handbags; accessories (scarves, belts, jewelry); makeup -- yes, makeup is an accessory. Watch Nikol's videos! She is always on trend!!

I had tried to veer away from the fuscias and reds because I thought it was more "classy" to dress in beige. I look horrible in beige. This session actually freed me to be myself. I am thrilled that everything goes together now. My stylist explained to me that it is not about restricting oneself but about being aware of what looks ‘best’ on you and highlights your natural features. On you, I find the blue and soft pink to be very flattering. I actually see your beauty. The yellow and black outfit is more about the outfit than you. But if you love it go for it. @@rachelparadis7069 agree, and autumn and spring are both warm, autumn is more intense and spring is lighter and more muted...so a warm can wear both seasons, but one will absolutely pop. I had my colors done 34 years ago (I'm now 75) by someone with a masters degree in art, at a boutique that specialized in color analysis in the San Francisco Bay Ara. It was a gift to myself, to celebrate my success with deep emotional healing by creating an exterior presence that matched my newly acquired inner beauty. That analysis gave me a huge burst of lasting self esteem and confidence, and has guided my choices in color and style ever since. I intuitively know that what I purchase will effortlessly blend with my wardrobe at home. I am 65% rich (autumn by the House of Color category), 20% soft (probably summer) and 15% animated (probably spring). My style is 60% classic and 40% natural. When I asked what I should do if I wanted to wear something that did not agree with my analysis, the artistic director said to smile radiantly.

I had my colors done about 35 years ago. It was one of the best things I ever did! I wasn’t given a nice booklet with the colors but just fabric swatches. After awhile you just know. You don’t even have to look. The hardest thing I had trouble with, color wise, was distinguishing between cream from beige. Beige has some gray in it. You CAN wear ANYTHING but wear what’s your best color closest to your face - so everything will look great. Like wear black, even though you shouldn’t, but wear a scarf or necklace that’s in your best color. It really does make a difference. If I wear the wrong color near my face, it shows every line and blemish I’ve ever had - but when I wear the right colors, my face lights up and I look prettier. I’m a Fall, but an Indian Summer Fall which is a bit different. The gal who did my colors told me if I stuck to these colors, eventually my wardrobe would be much more pulled together. She was right. It also saves time if you want to shop in your colors. I think you can get away with wearing anything when you’re young but as you age, if you want your best face, think about wearing “your”colors. Good luck everyone!!!

White made me look ill - but off-white/cream looks great. Burgundy is not my color - but warm-reds get compliments and makes my skin pop. My Mother is a 'winter' - black hair & can wear black, white, darker reds, etc. My sister is an Autumn - light brown hair and fair, and I am a spring, blonde and fair. There are SOME dresses and combos I still love and wear - even if not precisely within my 'color wheel'...I must admit though, that when the color of clothing works with your hair/skin - you can SEE it's the right color for you! :-)

Hence why your yellow suit with colourful Pucci headscarf looks divine. With this video, I covered over your nany jumper to see the sole effect of the soft pink shirt. I also went to House of Color and came out a Summer. It was a real shock to me because I grew up with nearly black hair. As I have gotten more comfortable with it, I realize that they are right. I’m cool but need some softening of the color. I put on a black top the other day and could see how it aged me. I’ve learned that I can’t do the super pale colors and instead buy the medium range colors. The darkest colors go into my pants and jackets.

Just goes to show it’s not always easy to guess what someone’s “best pallet” may be! And you do that so beautifully!

You look so natural, young, and fresh in the new makeup and softer, cooler colours. Like you, I also deviate at will to wear what I want (eg. white in summer, when I have a tan). Wow! I thought you were a winter. Now I can see why you've been looking so soft in recent videos! I've discovered since going silver, I can actually wear more colors, although I was "done" years ago & told I'm a spring. It may be time for me to have this done again! That sequined dress looks SO Marylin Monroe! Yay! "I wear the colors I want, because you know what? I want to!!!!" YEAH!!! 💖💖💖💖💖

I had my colors done 3 times! I finally had a consultant clarify that my eye, hair, and skin tone were my colors, too. Little gold or green flecks in eyes - yellow works. I see that your hair and eyebrows make a dramatic contrast - of course, black and white work for you! I love the guidelines but still wear what I like as well.

Before going silver, I had very dark brunette hair; blue eyes, pink skin. I was then a definite winter. Now that I'm silver, I am often drawn to things like Periwinnkle, pure white; no off-whites that just make me look washed out. But I can also go to more summery shades. It's a feeling I get when I see the 'right' color that I'm drawn to. I should wear navy instead of black at this point (I am 74 and a half) but I still love my black.

I went to Linzy a little over a year ago, and did not react well when she told me I was an autumn. My closet was 90% summer, because that’s what I thought I was. However, she managed to convince me to keep with it and I’m so glad she did! At first, I was very reluctant, but I tried an experiment: I selected 8 tops from my closet, tops that I had loved and worn many times, but not in “my colours”. I then photographed myself in each of those tops, plus 2 others that I had from the autumn palette, 10 tops in total. I could not believe what I was seeing. The tops in the summer colours washed me out compared to the autumn ones. How had I never seen this before?!! Once I actually saw it for myself, there was no going back. I still have some black in my closet (well, you have to, don’t you?), but almost 80% of my clothes are now autumnal and I love that. They complement each other, so putting an outfit together is actually enjoyable now. I’m wearing colours I would never, ever have tried before, and yet they complement me so well that they actually make my skin look like its glowing. I finally feel confident when I’m shopping for new clothes, and that is exactly what I was hoping to get from this experience.

I think there are some people who are true seasons, but I think many of us aren’t. I look good in some winters ( not all) and some falls(not all). I don’t look good in any yellows, but have a couple because it such a happy color and makes me happy. Besides, it hard enough to find clothes that fit well, flattering, affordable, quality, look good, and in a color wheel color I’m suppose to wear.

I did this almost 40 years ago with blonde hair, I was a Summer. I did it again 2 years ago with my silver hair and was a summer. No surprise as I am light skinned and have blue eyes. These are the colors I feel look best on me, but surprisingly I can also wear pumpkin colored tops and lipsticks. I still wear black, but navy and ivory are very much my best neutral colors. What a fun video!

I think it's great that you went and had this consultation done. As a woman I feel it's important to know what works best for us, but also like you, I wear whatever colors I want to or else I would be so bored. I wear my "right" colors for times when I just have to look my absolute best and don't want to think about it. I just get dressed and apply the make up that works for me and can not worry about my look. I do not know if I a a winter or summer or how many seasons color palettes there are for this process, but I just know since I was young when people would compliment me on a certain color I was wearing, I would keep that in the back of my mind for future. When someone tells you that you look good in something, usually they are not lying and mean it.

I think that the actual season of the year matters too…like coral is a summer season color that I wouldn’t necessarily wear at other times. Vice versa with deep magenta, for example. Plus, if you’re tan or not, I think that makes a difference as well. Like with all rules or guidelines-I think you need to know them, understand them. Then, you can start push or break them!

I suggest you have a session with John Kitchener of PSC style consultants. You are a unique being, and don't fall strictly into one category. Being in 1 severe category is old school. come into the modern world. It's not that you can't wear any color, it the tint/tone, etc. With things that aren't in our palette tend to "wear us," and draw the attention away from our face--which is fine, as long as we realize that. I wear black even though I "shouldn't".

I am a winter, and the colors I am supposed to wear, are the colors I feel the best in. My hair is now silver, and those are still the colors I gravitate to. Mostly jewel tones, but I do occasionally wear other colors, but when I go back to my colors, I do think my skin looks better, my silver hair pops, and the same with makeup. I have been wearing those colors for years and I feel the most comfortable in them.

Hi Nikol, I had my colours done in the 80's when it was first fashionable. I'm winter. I don't think I even have my swatches any more as the way to look at what suits me has become part of me. I haven't worn cream since then except in a floral, where the other colours are in my palette. I think how you "get away with it" so well is your wonderful ability with makeup. You can give yourself a really warming or cooling look to counterbalance the colour that isn't your best shade. Thanks for the encouragement!

I have been watching your videos for at least two years, and I have loved everything I have seen you wear, both in regard to clothing and makeup colors. You are gorgeous! Back in the 1980's, I read a book about seasonal color, and after taking the quiz, I thought I was a Winter. Many years later, I took a quiz online, and the computer results said I was a Spring. I'm 76 years old now, and I've stopped worrying about a color match. Apparently I have a neutral skin tone, neither cool nor warm, and I like how I look in either gold or silver jewelry. (Gold supposedly looks better on warm toned skin, silver on cool.) Thank you for all of your wonderful videos!

Good morning from the UK Nikol and thank you for your video 😊. I had my colours done many years ago - gosh probably 35 now I come to think about it! I was a 'career' girl in my mid-twenties and for me colour analysis was the best money I ever spent. I wore quite expensive clothes to work and so it saved me so much money to buy things that I knew suited me and would co-ordinate with the rest of my wardrobe. Then over the years I have had times when I have had very little money to spend on me as a single parent, so just having a few good charity shop buys in the right colour and style has kept me sane! You are in the position to have access to an expansive wardrobe and lots of make-up choices and I think you look fabulous in EVERYTHING, but for people not in the beauty and fashion industry (and for those of us with less confidence), sticking to your pallette is a great way to save money and time, while looking your best. ❤

My husband bought a consultation here in UK for me quite a few years ago, it was the best thing ever. At first consultant thought I was Autumn and I hated the colours and didn't have anything in my wardrobe in those colours. Luckily the consultant redid the colours and I was then a Summer, so happy as I am naturally drawn to those colours. Glad I have found your channel, enjoying very much.

I also watch style Style me Jenn and she covers more than just color and gets into saturation as a real consideration on color choice as being as important as season. I think it's worth a watch as well. I know i too cannot do muted colors at all. They just bring my mood down and muddy my complexion. I really dislike even looking at them.

Years ago when this first came out I had it done & was told I was a winter. Some of the colors that you were told I was told to wear. I agreed that I looked best in the “winter “ colors but now with my white hair I feel I can wear other colors & enjoy wearing other colors. I feel it to makes a difference with makeup on to give yourself self color. So many women who come in the boutique say “oh I can’t wear this or that color because it looked washed out “ but you have no color on your face.

I'm a summer - I have blonde hair (with white now-a-days) and blue-grey eyes, light skin. However, I LOVE khaki and olive green, both white and cream, gold and black, berry and blue-reds - very few of the pastels recommended make me happy. So at age 65, I wear what I want when I want, and as long as I have a smile on my face, I feel beautiful. Yes indeed, I am wearing shimmer shadows and duochromes too - life is short, have fun! --The Herrera and the gold lame dresses are simply STUNNING on you!

Nikol, I had my colors done by a Beauty Control rep back in the early to mid 80's. I kept the little swatch book in my purse when I went shopping to see if I could find things in my color range that fit into the holes in my wardrobe. I am a nurse, so I didn't wear clothes a lot. Just to church and special events. But I did find some scrubs in my colors, and I was thrilled about that. That swatch book finally fell apart I used it so much. But that being said, I do sometimes change up my eyeshadow to colors I don't normally wear, just to get something new in the mix. I will also wear some colors that are not really in my pallet to get a change. Most of the time I put those colors on my bottom half away from my face and hair. I think there is one color that is universal to all seasons, that looks good on everyone and that is Teal. I don't know why that one color works on everyone, but it does.

Thank you so much for this video. I started shedding massive amounts of hair in September/October after a very stressful summer. My hair was 2/3 down my back which makes the hair in my hand and on the shower floor that much scarier. I've since had it cut so it's now at my bra strap which is shockingly "short" for me. I was looking at Nutrafol and considering it but wasn't sure if I should pull the trigger to spend the money. Your video is so timely for me; it brought me to tears. Hi Nikol, I had my colors done years ago. I have followed them in my wardrobe. I am a “Winter.” I intuitively knew what looked best on me and it was interesting to discover that I was right. Still doing that; however, I occasionally gravitate toward something I really like that is not in the colors samples I received and will combine it with a scarf or other item. Mostly I wear jewel tones, and yes my hair is silver with some dark brown/black underneath. It was a good experience that lives on !

I’ve been taking Nutrafol for about a year. I’m Asian, but my father had wavy hair. Anyway, my new hair growth is coming in curly so now I’m having to learn how to style curly hair. I am leaning in to the curls and have watched many videos on how to style my hair to get those curls. I’m happy with the results, but I’m even happier that I can wear my hair curly or blow it out straight for variety. I love both looks. Nutrafol works.

WOW, hard to believe you're considered a summer. I really question these franchises with rather rigid categories. I had my colors done decades ago by an independent person who also taught a class on styles and textures that are most flattering to the different "seasons." She also believed that each person has a primary and a secondary season. At the time I was wearing my hair in its natural state of dark ash blond and was considered a summer with a winter secondary ( no pastels, thank you very much or yellows). In recent time I've been coloring my hair in a lovely burgundy auburn shade so I now wear more autumny toned colors/texures/styles that suits me better now. I think it's important to go with what you love and take the recommendations as a guide not something fixed. Personally, Nikol, you still come across as an elegant classic Winter totally rocking Black and White and the pure Primary colors. I adore your channel and so appreciate your authenticity!

I would have guessed you were a winter because you look so good in bold colors. I have had my colors done 3 time. Every time I come up as a Spring. I have very dark brown eyes which is unusual for a spring. I can cross over into fall colors as long as they aren’t too muddy. If I do buy something out of my pallet it seems to sit in my closet. All of summer’s colors simply wash me out. It is such a good thing to give all of us a road map for choosing our makeup and clothes. But certainly isn’t cast in stone.

How interesting. I had my colors done in 1983 when the Color Me Beautiful trend began based on the question: Why does Jackie O look so great in the little black dress. I am a spring. I have watched you for a year or so and always thought you would be a winter! I’m so surprised you are a summer. Black on you seems amazing. But no matter….I found that if I like a color I wear it and perhaps adjust my make up or wear “my” color near my face…or not! But it is fun and does help make clothing decisions from time to time!
