IMPORTANT UPDATE: Slight correction to the information I gave about the battery replacement. Wheeltop have clarified that the batteries will be replaced within the warranty period, which may be 1 or 2 years dependant on the country of purchase. Full details of warranty by region can be found on Wheeltop's website.
@petertreadway So what happens if the battery dies after 2 years 1 month and what are the costs for replacement? They need to get around this issue for the consumer to be able to purchase and replace the battery and install it. At least with Sram you can purchase the battery when ever needed. Not so here! Wheeltop need take this seriously, as it is a big concern not able to replace the battery yourself.
That's not good enough. They need to list the replacement price, availability or replacement batteries, and the complete process for replacement. Including after warranty.
You know it's Sunday when there's a new Treadway video to watch 😁. It was good to hear your further thoughts on this after some experience of using it, im seriously considering it as a future upgrade so the more information the better.

I've had the "part" groupset for 2 months and ridden approx 1000 miles with it. My experience is similar to yours. It was easy to install other than the rubber on the hoods. The programming of the gears was confusing but I've managed to do it. The shifting is bang on every time. The charge lasts ages. I've ridden in horrific rain, and it's not been affected. I'm really happy with it. At the same time, I see all the negative comments about it and I get nervous. Am I just lucky? Will mine pack up mid-ride? Or are people stuck in their way of only using Shimano? For what it's worth, Shimano have let me down twice in a year. I had one of those dodgy cranks. Then bought 105 12 speed and one of the shifter hydraulic ports was faulty. It's a known issue, but Dhimano won't take responsibility for it. Hence, I'm trying Wheeltop
I feel the same as you, Marcus, wondering if I’ve just got a ‘good one’, or maybe I’m just less picky! 😂 As you suggest too, it’s not as though Shimano are without their issues, so I’d be more than happy to take a punt on these newer entries to the market. 👌🏻
great review of real world experience. I'm definitely interested for my rim brake bike. This can keep me from having to replace wheelsets when I want to move up in the number of gears.
Handbrake on a canoe made me choke on my pizza 🤣🤣 It's good to see they want to maintain some backwards compatibility with the 1980s by keeping the rim brake option open. I wonder if EDS will release an upgrade for rim brakes in the form of high friction Converse to drag against the back wheel...? Seriously though, I discounted the EDS TX over another L-Twoo system because of the cost; but there seems to be no sign of their v2 version, and the current ones are still plagues by niggling problems is beginning to push me that way. If they did a transmission only option as an upgrade kit to those who already had brakes, that would be perfect... DAMN YOU TREADWAY! You just made this harder!
Sorry mate! More options are always a good thing though…. No? 😂 And yeh, on your recommendation I was keen on seeing the LTWOO V2 but am getting bored of waiting now. This is definitely a decent upgrade option if you already have a set up though. 👌🏻
I have this groupset and just completed installation (agree on the hood covers and wish I'd known about the cable tie tip!). Haven't ridden it as yet (that's tomorrow), but first impressions are that it has excellent build quality and seems good value for money. Time will tell.

I can only speak from personal experience, Freddy, as I know others have had less favourable things to say about it but the stiff hoods and weird pairing issues aside, I’ve very little to say against this groupset. Only time will tell if anything else arises (and I’ll keep you updated if it does) but for now, I’m very pleased with it. I hope that you found the video informative, whichever brand you end up going with and I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment. 👌🏻
That's a fair price for wireless shifters. Might be an upgrade in the new year for my new gravel bike. Incidentally, perhaps bungee the punp to the vertical part of the bike where the saddle slides in. (The correct term escapes me.)
The seat post? I did try that initially, but it sat too far out and I hit my ankle/calf on it with every revolution! The top tube ended up being the best worst option! 😂 Definitely a great price for an upgrade kit. This would certainly work well on a gravel bike but I'm very much looking forward to seeing what the new gravel groupset looks like (although I've no idea when it'll be released!)

There’s definitely something to be said for the simplicity of mechanical shifting and I’d never try to convince someone to change either way, if they’re not in the market for something different. Hearing about someone getting a new bike always makes me happy regardless of the kit it has on it though. You can never have too many bikes. 😉 What bike did you go for for your winter ride, out of interest?
@petertreadway I'm a big fan of Ribble. Bought the Ultra last year for the summer which is beautiful to ride. So have gone for The CGR for winter. Should be a bit of a do it all winter bike, road and gravel etc. I think we spoke last year about me spending the winter months solely on zwift and to be honest it drove me mad 😃. Be nice to do some outdoor riding this winter. Will keep my old Wilier strapped on the turbo. Must venture your way one day. All the best
I'm genuinely thinking of getting this set for my bike t'up north. I don't ride it enough to put an expensive groupset on it, and I don't have the funds anyway to even justify spending what you would on Shimano or Sram.
I'm looking to build a carbon gravel bike and give mine to my son. Just not sure if i should go 1x or 2x as my boardman is 2x... Plus not sure if i should go wheeltop or Ltwoo 🤦🏾♂️ Enjoying the video's so the same 👌🏾
I’ve umm’d and arr’d over going 1x or 2x before too, Colin and was swayed towards getting rid of my second chainring a while back when my left shifter stopped working on my road bike and I found I was quite happy to run on just the 34t up front and 11-34 at the back. I put 2x on the new carbon gravel bike I built myself recently though, purely because I found a cheap 2x GRX crankset online. The gravel bike has a huge 11-42 at the back though, so 2x up front is largely redundant. I’m sure I will eventually switch the gravel to 1x then. Not sure if that’s helped or made you more confused though! 😂 I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos however. Cheers for taking the time to watch and comment. 👌🏻
I find it so strange how differing people's experiences are with this groupset but I guess it all comes down to individual cranksets and chains used. Sorry to hear you're having issues with it though. Have you taken it to your LBS for them to have a play with?
@gracierunwiththewind it was listed as a Dura-Ace HG901 but it’s from AliExpress and cost just £14, so the chances of it being a kosher Shimano chain are unlikely. Even so, it’s running perfectly so far. 👌🏻
wheeltop now have 2 version. the latest version you cannot adjust FD by use App, you only relay with the screw adjustment for the FD. the older version you still can adjust your FD by App. the newer batch you cannot use it they lock your App for fine tune the FD. probably that person on other channel got the newer batch which Wheeltop lock that newer version.
Interesting! So while I adjusted the RD in the app, I actually fine tuned the FD specifically using the high/low screws on the derailleur itself. Also, Luke from TraceVelo said he’d had his kit for a while before installing and I think he was adjusting (or trying to at least) the FD using the app, so it may be that he has the older one. 🤔 You have just reminded me that I’ve read online about people messaging Wheeltop about FD tuning issues, and Wheeltop have given them access to do this in the app. Not sure what’s going on there then, but I didn’t have any need for the app anyway for the FD. I’ll drop Wheeltop and email myself to get the lowdown though. Cheers for the info. 👌🏻

Sorry its not a group set its missing BB/crankset/ and a chain which could set you back nearly £200 or a bit less so tat brings the EDS groupset up to the £800+ when you can buy 105 12 speed Di 2for £849 on Merlin cycles and have a better product and service centers all over the UK. So why would you want to buy this crap.
True but it's rim brake and the only rim brake electronic group is ultegra 8150 and that's about £1250 but I'd way prefer that as you can guarantee it's serviceable and you'll get parts for years to come.
Each to their own opinion, but while it may not be for you, there are a lot of people who could benefit from this over a Shimano group. I did point out in the build video that Merlin are currently selling a full 105 Di2 group but as I say in this video, this is a great option for anyone looking to upgrade an existing groupset. In any case, I appreciate you taking the time to watch and share your views. 👌🏻

It was just a cheap generic one from ebay. It only cost about £30 from memory but it’s lasted really well. One bit of advice I’d give is to buy one with a lever style clamp, instead of a screw in one. The screw one on mine works perfectly, but can take some time to open wide enough to fit an aero seat post in, then a while again to screw it up tight. Other than that, it’s perfect though. 👌🏻

Ya Luke at tracevolo did not read the directions. That’s why he had issue with the install😂 it’s all right there in many different languages and 60 pages🤮. Seriously most are having issues because they don’t read the directions. Ask me how I know lol. I am running a 13s rotor cassette and it was much harder to set up but I got there in the end.
Possibly. I mean, Luke and I are both men, so have obviously never read a manual of instruction between us in our lives! 😂. In fairness though, even when you do read it, the Mandarin-English translation isn’t the easiest thing to get your head around but, as you say, you get there in the end. How’s the 13s working out for you?
@@petertreadway ya that’s the issue. The directions are hard to go over. But I have found there are small differences in setup compared to mechanical systems. The 13s rotor cassette is great. I did have to use a 2.5mm shim to get frame clearance on the 10t cog but other than that it’s pretty basic setup. The tuning was not fun lol. Shimano cassettes are much easier to tune because they shift better than almost all other cassettes and this one does not shift as smooth as a Shimano cassette.
Good question which I completely forgot to cover As I understand it, there’s (currently) no integration with Garmin/Wahoo/Hammerhead, etc but there does seem to be a way to connect a Bryton head unit. I say currently then, as the kit clearly can connect to some computers, so it’ll hopefully only be a matter of time before a software update allows connection to the more mainstream units. 👌🏻
@@petertreadway My understanding is that the most recent firmware update added this and will connect via ANT+ and show which gear you are in. I don't have it so take that FWIW.
If they had a few English speakers on payroll, someone might have mentioned that using a model designation which is an acronym for Erectile Dysfunction Syndrome isn't great marketing. 😏
