My grandfather owned "the Limberlost cabins" in central New York for 30 years. He kept all the change from multiple vending machines. He died about 1960 and my 10 yr old brother got the windfall. 33 shoeboxes of silver dimes and quarters later, he kept a few and sold the rest for smelt value. He divided up the $30,000 among us kids. I wonder how much was in those coins if they were sorted and priced.

Probably nothing. Unless they are in great condition, melt value is what you are looking at, and silver currency is only 90% silver to boot, so they like to short you by adding in the "refining fees"..... If you were to go into a coin dealer, with that many coins especially, they would give you a generic price and if you insisted on having the good ones picked out, they would dock your price to do that work for you, and then you would have to pay to have them graded and certified, assuming there were any of value in the lot. And then, because the dealer would be holding your stuff for so long, he would feel more entitled to give you an insultingly low offer......if they hadnt already decided that amongst the thousands of coins, you wouldnt notice a few missing, possibly your best ones. These days, a silver quarter is worth over $3 though lol. Even if abusively circulated lol.
@angiecrowell3747
@angiecrowell3747 2 года назад
Wow! No telling the money that was melted. Some rare coins are selling for well over $30,000 each. Coin dealers are going to just weigh it, then give about half of melt value or less. They would not went through them for you. They would for themselves. So $1,100 per shoebox full of silver coins? Wow. I know I would not hesitated to have bought that. Im still sick over my grandpas collection getting stolen from my house. So im sure you probably are sick over your ordeal as well.

0.44 they are called fire tongs, used to move coal or wood in the fireplace. In the days when almost every house had a fireplace in the living room.

those metal grabbers in the beginning: I have those to grab stuff in the fireplace, like if there was a nail in the wood and it's in the hot ashes and you want to sort it out...

Them tong like things are tools used for forging steel , There's also a glass version , it's to hold material at extreme heat , An there also worth money , especially if Victorian, which they look like , but maybe there from 60s , hard to say ,, Kinda imagine like taking metal jugs from a mold , just after liquid form , these tongs could clamp them by neck of said jug , or class vase to lift from mold , As obviously gloves won't work ,

that is what I was thinking too - i watch alot of forging stuff on youtube I think its interesting

Good video. Do your homework on the coins a ton to know and many different grading that affect the pricing MS67 is the highest grade when I was younger it was up to MS65 so condition and grading are important. There is also frosted coins that have better value. You could watch rob finds for some good knowledge on coin finds especially in everyday change finds.

Also you should make a jug for cooper pennies and just save it for when you have a lot and you could scrap it for more money then face value something to consider. It's a good rainy day saving account.

Thec2 big metal tong tools are for lifting hot metal out of a forge so you can hold it on an anvel and pound it into shapes or a shape your trying to make. 2 sets of them would look nice in a man cave on the wall , if you don't own a forge I cant belive youd ask what blacksmith tools are and not know. Watch a few blacksmithing RU-vid videos. If you've had a long stressful day pounding out some metal and making something is very rewarding, it will take your mind off the stressful day and give you somting you can beat the shit out of. But really its also an artform and you can make some really cool stuff. Things you cant buy. Things that are usefull and even art out of scraps and broken tools. That broken pair of slip joint plyers can make a neat looking bird that will sell at a fle market for a lot more then the cheap tool cost you.
