I drove a new e Tron GT and a Tesla Model S. The Audi is worlds better in every way. Same comfort and power but the Audi is a real luxury car where the Tesla is like a tupperware container that's not shut correctly.
This guy is cool, lets his kid drive that expensive vehicle around and doesn’t stress out about it!! That’s a cool dad right there no doubt, love watching your videos Craig.
Yeah, so cool to let a kid drive on public streets with zero experience at night. It would have been funny for the kid to crash the car and the insurance claim be denied. Insurance companies don't pay claims for accidents where the vehicle was used during a crime.
Bro come on this is what I mean, this kid will remember that forever. And he was driving around a building and let’s be honest this kid has probably driven a lot of his dads vehicles.
@@dustinabbott3027 Take into account that experienced adult drivers can't handle that much immediate power. It was not smart to let a kid drive something with so much torque in an area with snow and at night. It is what it is.
Your son brought back memories, one day we were up from the city staying on the family farm, after a few chores on Saturday, I said to my 12 year old we’re going to town as he approaches my minivan. I toss him the keys, he was freaked, but he did a great job driving farm roads into town to pick up a few things for dinner and drove home. he still talks about it and he’s 43.
haha when I worked on a farm the 8 yr old drove the old pickup and tractors.....he used a stick to press the clutch on the tractor, 2 lo was just throttle pulling the hay wagon. He sat on phone books when he drove the pickup.
I grew up on a wirking farm. I was forced to drive at around 8 or 9. Older brother wasn't at home and daddy needed help feeding the cattle. Hay bales stacked higher than the cab on an old round fenders P/U with 3 on the column. I had to sit on the edge of the seat and I was scared to death I was ginna pop the clutch and throw daddy off the hay. Driving the tractor was a breeze compared.
Craig, watched you videos for a very long time & would drive past your lot years ago while visiting friends in NH, I am in CT. So awesome to see what the channel has become. Always loved your stuff because you’re a real guy who’s busted his ass in small business to provide a good life for your family. Nothin realer than that!
Yeah, I especially love to things about Craig. First, I really admire his out of control ego, and secondly, I really admire his lack of charity towards others. Craig is all about Craig and nobody else.
@Flying Wheels I was at your favorite auction today aane I go every week usually cause my boss buys from there love watching your content keep up the great work bud
I think you will also notice huge benefit if you had a 220 installed at your house. Using a fast charger is something you should really reserve for trips if you can.
Your son driving reminded me of when I was 14 years old and driving a 1951 Plymouth stick shift station wagon on the back roads with my father and that was in 1958. Thanks, that gave me a real lift up.
I didn't read any of the comments, I don't care but man that's pretty dope. You go dad, he's going to have that memory forever. That's awesome of you guys!
One of my most fun memories is when I took my 15 year old daughter to a local snow covered parking lot to teach her how to drive in the snow, (turn into a spin, don't lock up your brakes, etc) and I was laughing and smiling the entire time. I had way more fun than she did I think and I'll never forget that. She is 37 now with 3 kids, enjoy your kids while they are little because they will not be little long. I enjoyed your video Craig, I feel EV's have a long way to go before they will ever be widely adopted. EV's are a lot more inconvenient to drive in general that their ICE counterparts are at the moment.
EV tech is improving at a pace unmatched by any other technology. It is really not that inconvenient once you learn the ins and outs of EV transportation. It is far less expensive to charge your EV at home. A 220v charger will charge any EV from 0 to 100% overnight. A 110v charger will be way longer than that. Charging at home is better for overall battery life. Supercharging to often cooks the battery and it will probable need replacing before 150000 miles. If seen EVs that only charge on home chargers with 300k miles and still going strong. Doing your homework is key to a good EV experience.
Craig from knowledge, the optimal way to charge is between 20% and 80%. The charging speeds decrease dramatically after 80%. Charging at home will be significantly cheaper. Please do a video on getting a level 2 charger installed at home and your dealership.
That is epic! I don’t care if it’s legal or not. That’s ballin to train your kid that early! The discipline, my kids would probably never make it more than 10 feet!!! Great vid! Tread lightly Craig!! Can’t wait for next one!!!
Just bought the same car for 47k, amazing car for the price. Have a 50 amp charger at home and it’s 9 cents a kw here in Miami. Don’t have to worry about cold issues. Spending about 60-75 bucks a month to move around.
The reason why it’s not braking early enough while in cruise control is because it probably doesn’t actually have adaptive cruise control. The radar up front is there just for the pre collision system. That’s because it’s a base trim Audi. I have the same thing on my Audi a3. If Adaptive cruise control is included it will have settings to adjust the distance when it starts braking. Which is typically located on the cruise control nob by the steering wheel.
Craig is going to be so disappointed it doesn't have cruise control. I feel like it should come standard on newer Audi, even my Civic has adaptive cruise control.
I'm back in arithmetic class, Ha! It seems to me that the Tesla is a lot better deal, based on what you said at the beginning. It is one helluva machine though.
I love that you let your son drive. When my boys were younger, I would let them sit in my lap and "steer" while I worked gas/brakes. Always in a neighborhood, NOT true roads. he just turned 14, and I cant wait to take him driving for real. Your son will remember this for his entire life. Those are great memories!
Happy for you man ! I'll stick to the gasoline 28 gallon Tank under 5 minutes 💪Nice electric toy makes sense why the previous owner owned it for under 6 months.
I just drove my first one today too, Bro. A 2023 Mustang E. Thing is insanely fun to drive with STUPID torque. Slams you back every time. What you said about aggressive driving in them is spot on./ Grats on owning such an amazing Man Toy.
This video just made it very clear to me that EV’s are pointless for practicality. Fun! But more $, Way more complicated, and the infrastructure isn’t there
I see a huge advantage for small business to start partnering with super charging stations. the fact that you spent $100 in the mall while charging is basically the same idea of convenience stores. Don't make much on the gasoline but the stuff in the store is where the mark up is done. I wonder if you have considered buying a lot just fir setting up this type of business
Ok then how about my 2023 Lexus ES300h? I average 46.5mpg for the last 25k miles, with a low of 42 and a high of 53mpg. Even Tesla’s website shows that I’ll save only $900 over 5 years if gas is at $4/gallon. And for what a car with 2x the MSRP? pass on electric, go hybrid.
Here in Michigan it’s $16 for an hour of charging, but even at this rate gas is still cheaper here in Michigan compared to paying for electricity for your vehicle. And it’s a facttttt. Gas here is less than 3.60 a gallon so what do the math on that, and my car gets 28 mpg. So yeah my car is definitely more convenient.
I do wish that you had done more research on that Audi E-tron since you Knew that you were buying it. As smart as you are with all the other cars, this Audi E-tron , you really dropped the ball if i was depending on your knowledge of E-cars. But that doesn't Sway me as i love your channel and have plans to watch Every video. Great job, but this just shows me that if i go the E route, read the Manual. lol again thanks.
You should at this point, #1 install a 220 charger at your lot. I'm sure this won't be the last EV you put in your inventory. And you should pre-wire for a couple more for future installation. You should also do yourself a favor and learn as much as you can about EVs. This being your second EV, I would have thought you would have more knowledge about them which ones are better than others.
Turn your heat off and see what happens to the range number when you cycle the heater. In my car the heater reduces the full range by 15 miles. Plus, the cold temps are not good for lithium ion batteries.
26:55 you used a lot of electricity to blast the heat...in an ICE that is waste energy that doesn't cost you anything. In order to produce heat it either has to scavenge it off the battery or use a heating element to create it. nothing consumes electricity more than a heating element (relatively speaking). Same as when you use defrost, I bet it has a drier/dehumidifier in it as well...
In 2015, I had a Leaf and never worried about the infrastructure because I always charged at home. The price is why it's NEVER worth it to charge publicly. It's less than gas, but still highly profitable for the charger company. This is why I believe charging stations, which take a smaller footprint than a gas station are going to be the new big investment. Soon, you'll see EV stations with convenience stores with no gas pumps. Most people don't have a charger when they get an EV. You're supposed to buy one. If you can afford a $100k car, you should be able to afford a charger. Plus, isn't NH one of the states with a charger rebate? Make sure your charging cable is plugged in to a 20A outlet, not a 15A.
I believe if the key is out of the vehicle and you lock the vehicle it shuts itself off. That is how the taycan works so I assume the audi would be the same
Just pulled the trigger on a certified 2021 e-tron sportback prestige and I love it. So fun to drive and a beautiful car. Will install a level 2 charger at the house thought but it’s pretty easy to find a fast charger in Atlanta which can full charge (80% where I set it for longevity purposes) in like 25 minutes
So what's it going to cost to make the Tahoe go 0-60 in 3.1 seconds like the EV Audi does ? A supercharger probably. Then you have to be able to stop that, upgrade brakes. Tahoe comes stock with a horrible transmission need to do something about that after the upgrade! And of course batteries don't do well in the winter, so how better would the charging be in better weather ?
I had an Etron SUV. When you open the drivers door the car should shut off. The lights may go on when you get close to the car. The drive settings control the suspension, acceleration, steering and the efficiency settings. I traded my Etron for a BMW iX with 100 miles more range. Cold weather and driving style affect your range. The range meter is called a guess-o-meter for good reason. I do recommend a 240v charger maybe one at home and one at the shop. Good luck and feel free to reach out with any other questions.
Too funny, and you hit all the points about why we are not interested in getting an EV. We have been checking how many charging stations are available during a few driving trips the past few weeks, and there are not enough of them, and we do not want to wait around every time. Thanks...
Why on Earth do you need to have a cup of anything in your car when you don't drive very far. Contrary to popular belief, you don't need to be drinking liquids constantly to survive.
Model 3 rwd peasant spec is the play while they still get the 7500 federal, we get 4k off the hood and no sales tax in NJ. Love mine Also you should put in a j1772 evse at your house or work. There really easy to wire yourself and I wouldn't be surprised if your utility will help with cost of a professional install. Quick Google looks like you pay like . 14 to . 15 cents per kWh in new Hampshire. So you have to charge at home to see a big difference in price compared to gas
You're not using the regen correctly, also any ice car has additional costs, oils, brake replacement more frequently etc and more servicing costs per hour. Home charging reduces the cost per mile significantly as well and you could adapt that to include solar and its then Free.
Charging at home, on my rate of power of 14 cents per KWH it would cost $11.72 to charge that car from 0-100%. That’s not even factoring that I have solar panels.
I own a Rivian R1S and Tesla Model 3. Charging at home is usually 1/3 the price of gasoline. Traveling on the road at EA or Tesla chargers is roughly the same price as gasoline. 90% of my mileage is from home so I save a bunch of $ on gas especially since I also have grid-tied solar panels. I would guess about 50% of the actual go go juice comes directly from the Sun. Where I live the gird is only about 3% coal, so the environmental elec benefit is real. *Sometimes you can luck out at EA and your charging session is free for any number of reasons.
Get a level 2 charger at your house and you'll be happier with it. EVs make good getaway cars, you can get in them and start driving before the screens boot up. I m on year 2 of my chevy bolt and I still leave it on sometimes.
Since they are way easier to use through muscle memory and touch, I would say they're less expensive since you don't need to take your eyes off the road to use them.
@@DaBaltimoron i know what it's supposed to mean. I also know that if you wreck the vehicle because you had to take your eyes off the road to deal with a stupid touchscreen, that's way more expensive than a button or knob would be.
EVs have got a long way to go before they are a practical alternative to gas powered cars. I've seen other RU-vid videos and only getting 50% of the expected range is what many people are seeing.
Friendly suggestion, don't allow the speedometer in the videos when driving 80+ on a public road. All you need is one small town NH police dept. with a point to prove and you're at criminal speeds.
Once it gets warm, you have to run the A/C, so it won’t go up. It will go up, between the winter and summer weather, but if you run the A/C or heater, your mileage goes down.
it'll be good in the spring, then soon as summer hits it'll go down again because it now has to cool the battery. In the winter it has to use energy to heat the battery. That's why you get reduced range then when you use the heat. Same as in the summer...turn on the a/c and watch your range drop. (most use a heat pump)
30:12 I don't think I've ever had a drink in my car, other than a can like a pop or energy drink, without a top.....you seriously bring just an open cup like that often? Wouldn't last 2 minutes in any car I've ever driven.
I start to understand why EV were so popular in China right now. The price of electricity cost me 0.5RMB which is around 0.07USD. Hence it costs me less than 7USD to have a full charge of my RS etron GT. Even though the price of electricity is not the biggest concern for this type of vehicle. 4 out of 10 vehicle sold in china right now are EV or hybrid EV.
I feel like people dont understand the concept of Electric cars people complain about charge time and driving range etc and compare it to a diesel which is completely different stuff but they dont know why electric cars is a thing (CO2)
You literally remind me of someone using an iPhone for the first time. The battery sucks, my old flip phone battery last a whole week. Why do I need to go through so many screens to make a redial phone call? On the flip phone, I just unflip and press the green button. And on and on….
technically 13 miles, unless the 1 way trip the gym was only 1.5 miles for a total of 3 miles which isn't what you said. Craig, get a cheapo app, I have fillup its called. I log all my miles and gas usage on that app. you can use it for the same purpose, you will just have to supplement gas price, for kw charge price or whatever. If you fill it up or not. it will do the math for you and keep track of all the info. More importantly, it will keep track of the money, money per mile, money per charge. Put it into an easy to read grid and daily/monthly/yearly format. You can then track the differences in summer vs winter. Different chargers. How the batteries or decomping over time. all of that just by seeing the numbers next to each other. The car you have will, as well. However, it may skewing the numbers to inflate its efficiency, which I noticed most cars onboard computers systems do.
I'm literally 5 mins from you, have a mustang Mach-E, home charging station etc.. I'm a geek, if you ever want to chat EV sometimes feel free .NH sucks for EV.. get 240v home charging ASAP.
People forget how much electricity the cars uses just operating all the instruments and heaters and computers. I bet 10% of all used range is taken up by these items. Maybe More?
