It's this exact obsessive behavior that literally almost drove me to mental insanity. I would literally be scared to take a break. I remember having the flu and feeling so bad that I was resting, and relaxing. I constantly had to be doing something. If I wasn't trying to avoid sin and being hypervigilant, I was trying to evangelise, I was painting because I had a personal conviction to not watch tv etc. It literally drove me to the edge and i feel so relieved now that I've distanced myself from the faith.

This topic gives me such c-ptsd. My mom would shame me and my sisters for being "lazy". She told us we "should always be doing something productive". (It came from religious guilt and (I believe) an undiagnosed anxiety disorder (because it was passed down to me). It took me well into my mid 20's that I could take a nap mid day without guilt.

I find it very telling that when she 'explains' the verse, she nearly recites it word for word again with a different tone. At 14 minutes she reads 1 Timothy 5:12 which i transcribed from the video because i don't know what version she is using: ' "Besides that, they learn to be idlers, going from home to home. And do not only idle, but gossip and busybodies, saying what they should not. Younger widows marry, bear children, manage their household, and give the adversity no occasion for slander, for some have already strayed after Satan." ' Then she follows that up immediately with this- look how close it is to the actual verse!: 'Here he is just explaining what happens when we idle. We go from house to house, we gossip, we're busybodies, we say things we shouldn't be saying, and so have younger widows marry, have children and manage their households so that they give no adversity for slander.' Actually, she made it more confusing and the last bit where she rephrased it the most ('no adversity for slander'), except now it doesn't make sense. It really feels like she lacks understanding and desire to dive in to the meaning of the verse. It was not complex, and she failed at rephrasing it. Here, I'll try: 'here he is just explaining that when we idle, we don't do good things, and so he is encouraging young widows to remarry so they are kept busy with family life and tasks and don't leave an opening for Satan.' It could be laziness, but it really just feels like her understanding of the text is as deep as a kiddie pool. She is so quick to reach for a verse to back up her own opinion, but in *my* personal opinion, a message or point is lost when she can't explain to her viewers how the verse ties in to the topic succinctly. i can't help but feel that when she had this video idea, she found verses to use by searching for 'bible verses about idleness' or searched an e-bible/bible app for the word 'idle'. Which- the irony, if that was true, because of her comment at 17:15 She is not alone in this approach- think Girl Defined and B. Dawn.

Five bucks says her husband is allowed to come home and watch TV or play video games or whatever after working eight hours while she works sunup to sundown. But he's not being idle!

I watch some atheist an ex/recovering fundamentalist/mormon channels, as well, and don’t remember exactly which one I saw this on, but they were discussing the rapture and end times. They were talking about how every generation claims “were in the end times right now!” Then they brought up a very interesting thought- that what if the rapture has already happened and we’re all just the ones left over lol. I got a kick out of that one.

The idea of the end of times just makes it so that people feel that they don’t have time to address the ills of the world.

My win for the week: I have a second cat! My first cat has been lonely and I'm finally in an apartment that allows multiple pets, so I went to the shelter yesterday and picked up a friend. ❤

My win for the week is the fact that I finally went to the doctor's appointment (gynacologist) that I've been putting off for literal years. I was too scared to go for the longest time, but knew it needed to be done. In the end, it was not that dramatic and I got the sweetest lady who managed to both take my concerns seriously *and* calm my worries

Oh dear... I know Milena's first language isn't English, but idleness and "busybodied" are not the same thing. Also, the Bible instructs us to rest multiple times, so are we supposed to not be idle while resting? I just can't 😂

I always get a little frustrated when someone misses that Proverbs is a book of poetry and the “women” pictured in it are metaphors for folly and wisdom. It’s describing what it’s like to be “married” metaphorically to foolishness or folly in that passage. It’s not a condemnation of a real person. It’s useful to ponder, but unless you’re a neglectful parent, anyone who has multiple children and is growing another one (and at least one pet I saw) is far from idle. It is important work caring for the needs of small humans. It seems like she doesn’t think it is.

My win for the week is my bff since kindergarten who’s always been religious (now 27) told me she’s been deconstructing! So proud of her for recognizing and prioritizing her mental health. Not sure where she’ll land but she seems so much happier since stepping back from the church

My ADHD causes me so much internal shame surrounding productivity and its something I have to check myself on almost daily. Constantly feeling like you've never done enough during the day or convincing yourself that you aren't a worthy wife, mother, or Christian because you didn't complete this task or that task. Pushing the idea that idling is a sin seems dangerous for her followers. It seems like her interpretation of idleness in the Bible was taken too literally like as if every waking minute you should be productive in order to be a "good Christian" . Like someone who can’t sit still. Also, the idea that one should always be busy is ableist. Everyone needs rest and relaxation- some more than others. Some ppl physically or mentally can’t do all that. As someone who sleeps a lot due to chronic illness, I take offense to the idea that I’m lazy cuz I’m not doing chores 24/7.

Does she ever speak humbly? The way she teaches about verses so confidently, implying that SHE has the correct interpretation of what it’s trying to say. In contrast, biblical scholars are constantly debating based on the original language and historical context….but don’t worry, Christian house wives have got it figured out. I understand reading the Bible and pulling out what’s meaningful to you. But she takes what’s meaningful to her sound and applies it to everyone as the “correct” way to live.

The thing that I don't get about B-haney's channel is how is it better than the people you usually discuss in your videos. I don't understand how this is supposed to enhance and strengthen my faith is most of the videos are about discussing some other Christians life but not sharing the gospel. Jesus prioritized sharing the gospel above spending time discussing someone else's life. I believe many of the Christians that been discussed here are Christians who show fruit in their lives and work to help other people grow in the faith, however they don't dedicate their channels to criticize other Christians. It is always good to stand up for what's right and annalize everything in the light of the word and through the holy spirit but when speaking about others becomes all faith is about then it is just Christianity to your own convinience, which doesn't really align to how Jesus walked on earth.

I didn't like her take about Tabitha. The women didn't love her because she was industrious and made shirts. They loved and mourned her because of who she was. She cared about people deeply, and the tunics were just a physical manifestation of that.

My win for the week is that I have made serious inroads on my distance university courses after procrastinating for FAR too long 😂 one course almost complete and another halfway!

My win for the week was having a future-focused conversation with my husband about working on our own small business. I’m a SAHM, and have been since COVID, and it doesn’t make sense for me to go back to work, but I just need something that’s mine. We are committing to twice-weekly meetings to track progress. We both have ADHD, so these meetings are a must!

She does do sit downs! I personally love her style of video where she cleans. I love cleaning with her 🤷🏻‍♀️ to each their own but she motivates me and at the end of the day my home feels cozy and it helps with my anxiety. I would love to add I suffer from really bad back pain and I’ve been taking care of my self but it’s taught me of grateful simple things like picking around the house or going on a simple walk, making delicious dinners for my family. My husband is very hands on when he comes from work and I’m grateful for that but her videos have really helped me.

Milena is missing the context here. Thessalonians 1 is written around 49-51, as mostly agreed upon by biblical scholars. There is considerable evidence that the early Christian church in these years was apocalyptic. Here is a good definition of apocalyptic religious movements from Encyclopedia Britannica: apocalypticism, eschatological (end-time) views and movements that focus on cryptic revelations about a sudden, dramatic, and cataclysmic intervention of God in history; the judgment of all men; the salvation of the faithful elect; and the eventual rule of the elect with God in a renewed heaven and earth. As the decades passed and Jesus did not immediately return, as he was initially expected to, Christianity had to change and adapt its teachings to be less apocalyptic to conform with the reality that Jesus did not immediately come back to make the Kingdom of Heaven on earth. Of course, a literal interpretation of the Bible leads to Milena, and many fundies and fundie-lites like her, to live a very apocalyptic version of Christianity in the modern day, but I think these passages are very tied to their historical context of preparing for the imminent Second Coming. Literal Biblical interpretations miss out so much history, language, cultural and historical context, etc, it is frustrating to be that they are so pervasive. B Haney's perspective and interpretations have much more thought and understanding put into them because they aren't literal and take context into account, and are much appreciated by this atheist. (Btw I love your shirt)

I definitely get the vibe that a big part of her videos is showing off her body. I think the one you reacted to before was very focused in her chest. "Here's my chest doing dishes! Here's my chest cooking breakfast!" Its odd framing for sure. Win for the week: I'm in the process of deep cleaning my bedroom and excited about all the dust I'm removing! My only exposure to Milena has been through your videos on her, I remember the last one I saw was very focused on her chest and I feel like she is one of those sheltered Christians who think that cloth over body equals modesty and she might be appalled if she realised how "male gaze" focused her videos are. I understand some people might not like talking head videos but I feel her style with voiceover are so much more work so she gets to say "I spent 5 hours on this 45min video" because of setting up angles and shots and all that tripod work so she can show us just how "not idle" she is. I don't want to come across judgy, just trying to point out she feels very sincere but sincerely wrong. Edited to clarify "wrong" should have been "just off the mark".

11:00 I think it's because the voice over is her being preacher/Bible study leader so it doesn't match what she's doing so it feels off to see her doing random things when the voice over looks like we should be seeing her sitting with her Bible and notebook sitting and doing an online Bible study. But seeing her doing housework feels like it's to keep in mind that she's just a sweet little housewife and not trying to be a preacher or teacher, she's just chatting about the Bible

ALSO, i agree with your take about her butt shot business in her video. i feel like her always doing something chore related is a way to display that she is a "holy woman". feels a bit pandery towards christian men who idolize "traditional" women. it would track given what she said in her video about making your husband drool for you.

If the purpose of her videos is to evangelize to “sinners” and atheists like myself, I gotta say she isn’t doing a great job of it. Here in Aus, under 25 year olds need 120 hours of driving with a qualified human while on Learner plates before moving to Provisional plates. I am 22, and dont really have anyone able/willing to drive with me frequently, so have really had to practice putting myself out there and asking fully licenced car owning friends (and strangers) to let me drive. It's take over a year to hit 50 hours, but I am thrilled to be approaching the half way point now.

Win for the week: I got myself some recording stuff to record my own songs. My narc father made me feel bad about the kind of songs I would write, he was drenched in toxic positivity and so I wasn't allowed to feel and express any negatieve emotions. We had to bury a good friend at 45 because of cancer and so I wrote a sad song that I couldn't for so long because of the guilt and shame. My father was just spiritually lost, so a bit different to religion, but I can always relate to a lot here.

Hey, B! This video is funny timing: I’ve been sick for a month (that winter “crud”) and I’m finally getting some motivation back after weeks of “idleness”-I guess you could call that my WFTW. Concerning “are we in the end times?”-I ascribe to the interpretation that everything post-Resurrection is the “birthing pains”. 🤷‍♀️. Because Christ’s work on the cross and the conception of His Kingdom changed the dynamic between the visible world and unseen realm(s). So in a sense, every Christian who thought we were in the End Times from the reign of Nero to the “worst year in human history” (535-536AD) to the H0locaust and the invention of the Atomic b*mb to today … they aren’t wrong, per se… Just a thought. 🤷‍♀️🙃

While I disagree with her entire perspective here, I feel a sincerity from her…like, she actually believes what she is saying. It is sooooooo different than when I hear Brittany Dawn…who seems to put on her “Christian personality” before every podcast.

I understand wanting things to be clean but she has used that one rag on A LOT OF STUFF. I hope she just has multiple of those and not using the same one for all the things. B: idk if you’ll see this but when I started doing an @ home Bible study during quarantine I was guided to use NIV. What do you like about NLT? I notice you refer to it a lot when you look up verses in videos. Also, I’d love to see a video or a series of some sort on different parts of YOUR outlook. Things you’ve learned critically reading Bible, I’d LOVE to hear your faith journey, maybe proof you’ve found supporting God/Jesus are real if you know about that (those videos fascinate me), just your views. Win for the week before I get to the rest of the video (also, yay new toaster!): my aunt, who I was really close to, died Wednesday. That’s obviously not the win. The win is that I’ve been able to stick to my meal plan in anorexia recovery after a major loss for the first time in 20+ years. I beat myself up over not being further along in recovery by now, but this is a huge win, because the whole reason the biological anorexia switch in my brain was first triggered-loss that made me too upset to eat for a bit, and the rest was history. This is the first time I’ve been able to stick to my plan despite the disorder screaming at me to just numb out by not eating. THAT would not honor my aunt or her legacy, so I’m doing the hard things. Will try to edit and add to this as I watch the rest of the video. Edit 1: I’m so sick of “the last of days/end times” being thrown around not only casually, but theologically-incorrectly. Edit 2: I got wrapped up in watching and forgot to make notes here, but I just want to thank you for how carefully, intentionally, and thoughtfully well-researched everything you share is. I relate to so much of what you share (in all videos) as a Christian who is also disillusioned with the audacity of a lot of the people covered here. Especially when they’re legit totally wrong and ignoring all context that doesn’t fit the point their pushing. Edit 3: pettiness incoming…I almost made it to the end, but the way she’s pronouncing “Joppa” as “jope-a” is just irritating. I agree that it was a good story to include, though. I’m a fan of the passage. Like I said, this is my petty edit. My petdit, as it were (it’s late, I clearly need to stop typing).

Like you, I believe it's important to understand the context and to read more than just a specific verse or cherry-pick verses. But I think it was one of Milena's better videos with some good points. Nice job as always, B!

My win for the week is that we were able set a solid date for our Catholic wedding and my baptism!

The Bible tells us to respect authority so even in a slave and master situation this applies, but we can also see from the Bible that it wouldn’t support slavery. But it was a thing that happens. I just feel bothered that you said God didn’t write the Bible. I would disagree. All words are God-breathed and perfect. God used humans as he does today to do his work but God’s Word is his word. Not just some human opinions. But on idleness, I could see that some people have this struggle, but I think too often in America we are struggling with hussle culture telling us to do more and turn everything into a money scheme. We need rest and we need work, so each person has to decide if they are meeting their basic needs or if they should be doing more or if they are so overextended that they are are failing at basic needs and need to slow down.

I feel her reading and “interpreting” scripture to the audience makes it very confusing and comes off as shallow and *sliiiightly* condescending to me. Then on top of it is like “ok also here’s me deep cleaning my house without a messy child or husband in sight while I’m super pregnant in my pilgrim dress and apron I do this cleaning routine 3 times a week” I really used to enjoy her pregnancy and toddlerhood content and organizing videos with some Biblical reference but it’s kind of like she’s gone into this “new age” stage of crunchy Christian that’s very off putting. I’m all for refining hearts and life’s for Christ and calling out sins and striving to live more like Jesus but I find her method to be very naïve.
