Today on the Lawson farm we are mowing hay with our hm235 new holland disc mower and using my 5200 John Deere tractor. I paid only $1500 for this disc mower but it seem to work great so far!
It's so good to see the small to average size farms surviving along with the hugh factory farms in the US I watch Nate the hoof guy too and he's alwys doing work on small dairy farms too lovely video and such a cool accent SEAMUS Ireland
Thank you for explaining the correct way to mow I have seen videos of people doing it backwards but the way that you are doing it is the correct way that is the way I learned
Nice video! I have an HM234. You're not kidding about those prices for the right hardware! Other than some issues of lodged hay wrapping around the outside "drum" on the outside disc, I've had good luck with it. Good price on that thing, nice job!
I was wanting to know if you could a video on how to hook up and unhook the disc mower, hay Tedder, hay rake, round baler and round baler monitor and square baler and how they work and how to operate them and how to get them ready for hay season and a walk around and an overview of the tractors and hay equipment this summer?
When do you think you guys are going to start cutting, tedding, raking, round baling and square baling hay? and what kind of tractors and hay equipment do you guys have and use to make hay?
You didn't mention why it pays to leave the outside round until the very end. It's because if you're going to hit something that could damage your mower, it's most likely going to be on that outside round, so you want to leave until you've got everything else cut incase you lose time fixing the mower.
I do towards the end of the video. That’s a good reason as well. But what I explain is that the outside run will be the only grass you pack down with the tractor if you do it that way and when you switch directions with the mower to go back around the edges of the field you’re going against the grass that’s laying down from the tractor so it’ll actually cut everything that’s been laid down if that makes sense. Kinda hard to explain typing it. But yes your reason is well worth mentioning as well, thanks
@@lawsonlawnandfarm8073 I know exactly what you mean as I've mown hundreds of acres. Going against the way you first drove helps to get the mower under the grass you've pressed down....but it's the only common sense way to mow as you need to work from the outside in, and the only way to cut the outer round is by going back the opposite direction, however this can be done at any time after you've done the first round and I pointed out a good reason not to do it till the very end.
G'day and thanks for the vid. Couple of quick questions if you have a moment. What's the purpose of the tall turtles either side of the cutting area? And, what is the purpose of the fabric cover over the unit? Cheers.
The tall turtles I think help direct the grass to lay towards the center of the swath if that makes sense and then the curtain pretty much is like a safety thing. Without it debris would be flying everywhere.
