The interviewer's face of incredulity is priceless, it is also observed how Frank becomes uncomfortable trying to explain how he doesn't even have a photo of Tanaka.
I always thought a prequel where Senzo Tanaka was the main character and shows how he got his sword would have been better than seeing a sequel to bloodsport
A prequel would certainly be awesome with a young Tanaka, but a sequel would have been even better. Frank Dux in the movie was some kind of special ops soldier so a sequel could have featured him on a secret mission where of course he'd encounter bad guys. Remember what Ogre, err, I mean Jackson said to Frank at the end, "If you ever need me, I'll be there." He could have been in the sequel too either for a cameo or as one of the main characters. The possibilities are endless, and it would have been action-packed!!
This is all new to me. So, Tanaka met Frank at a jujitsu tournament Frank was competing in. When and where was this tournament? Who did Frank compete against? Who did Frank win and lose against? Who was teaching Frank jujitsu at this time? Where are the trophies, plaques, & awards Frank won at his tournament? Who else was at this tournament that can testify to Frank's participation? (I'll bet they're all conveniently dead) Where are the pictures of Frank at the tournament?
Ive practiced martial arts for 30 years , won plenty of tournaments back in the 90's there is no evidence of this apart from a couple of people I still know who remembered it. Based on my experience I dubt there would be much evidence to support frank dux as most of it was in the 70's unless you were chuck noris or bruce lee no one really got to hear about your exploits.

He isn't some random no-name schmuck that happened to do martial arts, at least that's what he wants us to believe. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence, of which there conveniently is none.
The major flaw in his story is what jujitsu tournament? Japanese jujitsu is a non competitive art and has no competitions. And bjj was most certainly not in america at the time. This guy is such a liar.
I appreciate your style of interviewing, you ask questions and occasionally for clarification but you allow the guest to answer leaving the viewers to decide if it's fiction or fact. Well done sir!
That's true, but common courtesy isn't very common anymore and it seems as if more and more so called interviewers would rather just get in a yelling match arguing or talk over everyone to hear their own jokes.
I was fairly open to Dux' explanations in the first two interviews. This one brought me back to reality. His relationship to Tanaka changes everytime he interviews. He is pretty much proving his book was bogus, even though most people already knew.

Every martial artist, whether it be a boxer, wrestler, mma guy, Tae Kwon do, whatever- is eager to demonstrate their techniques. When talking about techniques they can only go so long with trying to tell you before they want to show you, at least a little- at least a hint of the technique, via physical demonstration. Whether it be standing up and throwing a punch, or showing how one should block, or sitting and gesturing to illustrate their point. At some point at some level they want to show you and not just tell you. Except Frank Dux.

Problem with all of this for me is him tying it into military service. He was USMC Reservist. No foul there but to claim you were recruited to do this and that is bullshit. “Files are Classified” works on Civilians but real military vets know better. Also if he was as deadly as he claims why not show off some of his skill as a marksman? A ninja would not train in hand to hand techniques while dismissing use of the weapons on the day/era? Even a run of the mill Marine or Soldier can shoot well enough to prove this point not to even mention guys who are actual operators. For me it’s 100% bullshit. All of it. No he retired in 1980 when his age was 24 and 300 fight he never won any single tournament.He fought not only Kumite of Bahama in 1975,he fought most of the fights in Japan and Taiwan.Apart from that he included fight not from open tournament, challenged him other Dojos and those fights also included. No person can win 300 matches in a single tournament and he never claimed it Don.
It was not kickboxing matches Don,it was Kumite and a man can easily fought 20 fights in day as it exists 1.5 to 2 minutes.Don't underestimate without proper knowledge about Kumite.Even you can check 100 man Kyokushin Kumite.You can't compare apples to oranges.

The version in the movie is the story he told to me and to Black Belt Magazine. If that's not the way it actually went down, he had ample opportunities in the intervening 40 years to correct the story. He's obviously read all the criticisms over the years, and worked out a new scenario to rectify all those "misperceptions." This newest scenario, reasonable as it may seem, is still bullshit. There is no proof whatsoever, of any version.

The story about the Kumite that he told to me and to Black Belt Magazine back in the 1980's changes every time he retells it. Frank Dux was never a fight champion, never a war hero, never a Medal Of Honor recipient, and never a CIA agent. He never had "over 300 wins" in any fight competitions, whether illegal, sanctioned, or "underground." If anything, he's won over 300 or so suckers who have naively been conned into his believing his stories.
I'm glad you addressed the whole body language thing, it's a ridiculous "pseudo-science" like you say. It's extremely circumstantial and subject to personal perceptions so I really don't know why anyone still subscribes to that concept. I'm with Don Wilson, Sheldon Lettich, and JCVD as far as Dux is concerned, but I do appreciate you taking the time to address the body language myth.
Why would anyone need body language to understand being 19 years old and never having won a single major tournament but training, like in the "Karate Kid" with an Traditional Japanese Karate Master, you can, in one event, amass an over 300 win undefeated record against the Greatest Martial Arts Fighters in the World! I really think Frank just glorified his sparring sessions. I have no doubts he was trained to some degree but he over hyped everything. I've had fighters over the years, who I know that did exhibition fights and to hear them talk about it, you'd think they went 12 rounds with Tyson.
Just like how Rickson Gracie counted all of his Jiu-jitsu matches and rolls as fights to give him 400 wins. When in actuality he might have had 10 real fights total.
Frank was usually two times bigger than any of his opponents, similar to Steven Seagal in his recorded matches; moreover, He could blast through anyone with a fierce not seen twice in any other match. It was as if he mastered the opponents body movements before they were made…. He was like a mirror… their shadow…. A shadow so big it swallowed them. Frank is now coming out of the swallow from the very shadow he created. The final stage of any black belt is “one” masters himself. He’s back and he’s got the “glow”. He is the last black dragon! Interesting that Frank brought up body mechanics and individualism in a style of Martial Arts. The founder of Ishinryu originally had twist punches but decided that that was too much of a motion and changed it to a rising punch. Twist punches are still found in kata but not in the "charts" in my experience or who I studied under. I was always taught if you can't do a technique a specific way then modify it. I was always told "make it work for you". It's my understanding that the toe ripping kick was modified to the heel thrust kick because most Americans couldn't bend just their big toe down. After several years, I could do the traditional toe ripping kick because I practiced for hours a day just bending my big toe down. I am fascinated by the history of all Martial Arts and the changes that were made.
Martial arts are just that - art - but fighting is fighting and in its pure form is ugly and not so beautiful like what you see people doing all the time .
Isshinryu never used a twist punches in the martial arts for 40 years charts 1 and 2 uses a vertical fist in every kata if someone is teaching isshinryu with a twist punch he is not isshinryu teacher may be a black belt in isshinryu and used a twist punch from other martial arts but not isshinryu.

Man I knew a guy like Dux at reception. He was telling all us Recruits he was a Master Chief but all the Privates start questioning him. Dude was cool but man his stories were so farfetched lol
There is only ONE reliable way to tell if someone is lying: The thing they said, turns out not to be true. Your body doesn't know if you're lying. There is zero physiological evidence of dishonesty, only of discomfort. Which may, or may not be because you're lying. People can lie with zero signs, and people can show all the signs of stress, while telling the truth. It all depends on their personality and what consequences they might face, and how they feel about those potential consequences.
I loved this movie as a kid and it was so disappointing to find out that none of his story can really be confirmed. The more and more you look into it, it just seems like this guy is a great storyteller. The biggest problem with his whole story is that there is literally nobody else on the earth that can confirm any of it. How is that possible? His story has changed so much through the years in different interviews.

I met Dr Masaaki Hatsumi in 2004, and stayed at his house a while. He's the Grandmaster of Ninjutsu. I asked him about Frank and he'd never heard of him.
He's the grand Master of bujinkan ninjutso. Shoto Tanamura is grand Master of genbukan ninpo buguei. The only reason you know more about hatsumi is because he americanized ninjutso with correspondence ninjutso courses and shit. Before the internet. Hatsumi was more business minded

Softball works. Let the subject speak. Hardball interviewing doesn't work when the subject isn't being paid, isn't gaining anything, and can just pull the connection at a moment's notice, and even claim later that their internet went out. If you press Dux, he'll just repeat predictable excuses. If you let him talk, maybe he starts throwing in new embellishments. It's not like he deserves to be crucified. Dude just lied about being a CIA ninja. Who the Hell hasn't done that at least once? What reason would Dux have for agreeing to an interview where everything he says will be challenged? I knew the instant Frank mentioned Count Dante in the last video that he'd explain it all away by saying there were two Black Dragon Societies, just as when pressed about the Kumite he'd no doubt say Dante's Kumite was sanctioned by his own BDFS, not the ancient one of which Tanaka was a member.

He seems like a harmless individual. Very insecure though. I did watch more videos on him from other youtubers which strengthened what I already suspected and My opinion doesn’t change. I very much agreed with the video titled “the fictitious life of frank dux” it pretty much summed it up for me. You have to worry about someone who dresses in a gi that mimics a teenage mutant ninja turtle. He’s earned a decent living I guess from continuing the legend as long as he can but I think even he wasn’t expecting the power of the internet would ever be able to derail and debunk his stories. The truth always catches up with you. Always. Frank is a narcissist and craves attention and wants to be liked and loved and seen as a messiah or guru. A friend of mine was a piano teacher. She said you must learn how to play music then break from that system. You have a pattern(like a kata or style) then you break from it. This is true freedom. Learn....breakfree.....then you have true knowledge of self and freedom.

Well like it or not Bloodsport picked up the torch that was lit by Enter the Dragon. Americans like Bruce Lee, Frank Dux, and Chuck Norris did more for exposing martial arts knowledge to the world than anyone else. They were all devoted to their art and carried that knowledge with openness to those that were interested in the martial arts.
Dux was real fighter and JCVD is not comparable though I respect JCVD.Dux way ahead as a martial artist and fighter than JCVD but JCVD also was a fighter and real but not as Dux level.

Why does this keep going on about Frank Dux? I trained with him for 5 years when he had his dojo in Burbank,Ca. on Lankershim Blvd. He is the real deal in the art of ninjutsu. I have even seen the photos of him with Senzo Tanaka on the walls of the dojo. He did indeed compete in the kumite. I have seen photos of that also. I know that you all are probably jealous and that is why you can't stop picking at him.

I've been hard on Frank Dux and Steven Seagal in the comments because of all the controversy that surrounds them. But in the end as a child of the 80's and early 90's Bloodsport is one of my favorite action movies and Steven Seagal is one of the coolest action stars on screen. We never saw anything like his Aikido on the big screen, or anywhere else for that matter, and Bloodsport was such a cool story that they continue to live on years after they debuted.
As bad as as Seagal is .. i still think he has more credibility compared to Dux . As their is actual early footage of him in Japan , teaching at an early age . And he does appear to have had very fast reflexes and speed . He lies about knowing Bruce Lee and all that . But as a martial artist he is legit . Dux in comparison has no footage from the 70's , and nobody can vouch for Tanaka despite being a master . And video's of him in his 30's from the 80's don't show he was anywhere near as fast .. as B. Lee as he stated . He's a good story teller as Bloodsport was great . But that's about it . Seagal is slightly more credible

I'm a Bass head, I love sound systems any ways, there was a video of a guy who went in to a shop claiming he hand built a 40000 watt subwoofer, talks all kinds of shit that it could crush a vehicle from the intense sound pressure, he would get questioned and he sounded exactly like this guy, at the end of the day he did it for the money and it worked

I cannot tell you how many times I have felt discouraged training because my kick or punch or throw didn't look literally exactly like someone else's. I remember my first TKD class I took literally after years before I received a yellow belt. I felt really chastised because my roundhouse wasn't like everyone else's. Of course I should know (considering I was training with a karate video not to long before)Ty for this interview, I feel better about my training.
Like a substandard musician, “it’s just my style!” This is why Dux is appealing, he gives platitudes that comfort losers, says the things they want to hear.

No because there is no proof Senzo Tanka even knew martial arts let alone was a master. The only evidence he existed are some immigration papers and a draft card but he was never drafted.
According to EVERY record available from the time, the ONLY Senzo Tanaka that existed ANYWHERE near Frank was a farmer. I swear, every time he's asked ANY question or asked to provide proof, the answer is always "Oh, THIS person has that evidence" or "Oh, I'm not allowed to share this with you"! EVERY single thing he has said over the years has either been debunked, or cannot in any way, shape or form, be verified! Also, if he's won ALL the tournaments and competitions he claims, where are the accolades? Medals, trophies, SURELY someone with Frank's ego would have these things adorning the windows of his dojo! Hell, every tournament I've ever won, the trophies and medals are all kept in glass cases either at my home or my studio. But the only trophy we've ever seen was the supposed kumite trophy which was purchased from a shop near where Frank lived. Hell, even the accolades he provides at the end of Bloodsport are either impossible or VERY underwhelming(I'm looking at you '72mph kick).

If you ask me how I met my instructor I'll tell you a story about how I met him and it will have specific details, I won't give a vague half answer and change the subject. How many years has this guy had to get his story straight?
I can understand why Frank would withhold certain details around the time of Bloodsport's release for good publicity, but if Tanaka was survived by (at least) two nephews, and given the supposedly clandestine nature of it all, why would Frank be chosen to represent Tanaka in the Kumite - let alone be given training in the first place? Further, why would Tanaka be training not just Frank, but several other students outside the Tanaka bloodline? He made a rod for his own back by only filling in these details when questioned. There's a strong argument to be made that Bloodsport, with all other the elements it had, is a good enough film that it didn't even need to rely on the 'based on a true story' tag to be a hit.
@@blankname6629 I'm not talking about Frank's initial pitch. I'm saying the true story angle could've been left out of the film itself and it would've still found an audience. A good story is a good story. But at the same time, I totally understand that many love the true story aspect of it.
I'm a life long martial artist student and instructor a Marine and fed law enforcement officer. Body language IS NOT pseudoscience !!! YOU CAN NOT BEAT THE LIE DETECTOR!! Unless you're a sociopath. Causing yourself pain etc. Doesn't work. The article linked isn't backed and full of false content. No peer review unable to replicate results in a control group etc. The eye shift and body language has helped me personally save lives by pinpointing people with weapons or ill intent in a crowd. Mr duex most likely NEVER fought in this tournament. Fact he's quit possibly a "fake " ...That being said I'm a fan of the story and film it helped pick my path in life. I'm really happy you did this and subscribed as well as sent this to a lot of guys. I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT KNOW that frank is full of shit Steven Seagal style and am happy to give him the benefit of the doubt.
So called body language IS pseudoscience and you CAN beat the so called “lie detector” (which is not a “lie detector” at all, obviously). Dux “possibly” a fake? How could he possibly not be?
Well no, the word truth shouldn't be used here. We have no real proof. Just a Man saying things over decades. Interesting how things change from "a person said this and that but then he..." to "I talked to him in person so its the truth" ... I'm still sceptical. Why is it that everytime you ask for a picture or some kind of proof you always get "I don't have it but someone else does..." Nice interview tough. Thank you very much for your work! Peace
Yeah, i've met enough story tellers when training as to be able to tell when someone is a Story teller. This guy is clearly that. That being said, the interviewing style is on point. If we had more journalists doing their job in this manner, we would have less fake publications out there. Ask the relevant questions, let the individual give their side of the story. Get the side of the story from the opposing side. Stay Neutral, and let the reader or audience make up their mind....
Leave this man alone...he's been criticized and blamed for lying his whole career. That has to be hard. He's still training and consulting ppl and is still active...leave him alone
Ugghh! I've been watching your videos because your Frank Dux videos brought back a lot of memories. Watching this video is proof that Dux has not changed one bit. He always finds a way to blame others for misrepresenting him. He always points fingers at everyone else. He knows he got caught lying. Instead of fessing up he dug in and is claiming a conspiracy against him. Senzo Tanaka didn't exist. I believe it is the name of a character in a James Bond story and movie. Dux used to say that Ian Fleming based the character on his sensei Senzo Tanaka. This interview is just sad. Dux needs help FYI. I used to train at Dux's North Hollywood Dojo back in the mid 80s. I still have the contract in my files.
Sensei Tanaka was a real man that was above all others in his time. It's apparent your research is just watching videos and interviews. Whether Dux really learned from him is a story of it's own. I give you that much.
@@theclashinpoppy361 I trained under Frank Dux at his North Hollywood dojo in the 80s. I know a hell of a lot more than you. The guy is a liar and a con man. He made up the whole ninja thing to cash in on the ninja craze of the 80s. He even claimed to have the fastest recorded kick and defeated Benny The Jet Uriquidez. Benny the Jet confronted him at the dojo and Dux said and did nothing. Even Bill Superfoot Wallace (who had the fastest recorded kick at the time) mocked Dux. Senzo Tanaka was not real. I believe he took the name from an Ian Fleming novel
@@devriestown Yes. I trained directly under him. Dux would take leaves of absence and when he returned would claim he had been on secret missions. Basically, he taught Japanese jiujitsu and mixed in military combatives. There were ex military guys that would come in and teach seminars and special classes. I did a few of those. I remember one saturday special class was taught by two Vietnam vets. Infantrymen. I learned serious hand to hand in that session. Serious crippling and kill techniques. Dux's logo was a flying horse (ph ma, If I remember correct) with a triangle. Dux was fixated with the triangle. Footwork was based on the triangle. In general at the dojo we did caliathenics and rope climbing (there was a climbing rope in the dojo). The closest to what I have seen that resembles what Dux taught is Moni Aizik's Combat Krav Maga. It is very close, in many respects. to what was taught at Dux's North Hollywood dojo. I heard the black belt test was one week and was like a survivalist course. You also had to do a diving roll out of a moving vehicle
