Did the Brooklyn Nets Get a Future Star in Mikal Bridges?

When the Brooklyn Nets traded away Kevin Durant and acquired Mikal Bridges, I firmly believe they got a future star. Bridges has continuously improved over the course of his career with the Phoenix Suns, and now that he's in Brooklyn, I think he's going to take another leap and become a star caliber player now that he's getting more of an opportunity to shine.
Mikal Bridges is having a career-year in the scoring department, and I don't think that's a coincidence. Bridges' usage is up significantly, even from his time with the Suns, and now that he's with the Nets, he's going as far as operating as the point guard for that team.
The sky is the limit for Mikal Bridges following the Kevin Durant trade.

I hadn't seen many Suns games. But, when I saw the Nets game, recently, where he dropped 45, that's the first thing that popped into my head, "damn, this man celebrating every made basket like it's his first NBA Points." ... and, that attitude just won me over straight away. Great head on his shoulder n hope Nets Dev Team can work their magic w him like w Dinwiddie, Harris, Claxton, RHJ, etc .. As much as I'd have loved for them to keep KD, Kyrie and Harden and as excited as I was when they came over. Nets (and Marks) really strayed away from the whole "culture building" and "character guys" w them.

@@Passarinho86 I mean I feel like his real breakout year will be his 3rd year in the NBA because in Cam’s first 2 years, he was playing with superstars and he was just trying to learn from them to improve his own game but now, I think he is ready to step up. Imo, I believe his ceiling is a much better defensive version of Khris Middleton. Both are lanky, all-around wings that are elite shooters, are switchable defensively, are pretty good playmakers, and can hit it from anywhere on the court. Offensively, I think he'll end up being the same as Khris, but that defense will easily land him in constant all-star convos

@mikealves9431
@mikealves9431 Год назад
@@healthyhim His best shooting season was in 2020-21 where on 4.4 attempts per game he shot 42%. In this season, hes shooting slightly below 40% on just below 5 attempts per game. Thats elite, by any benchmark (League average 3p% is 36%, and attempts wise is in the 64th percentile for attempts this season). Plus, (im not entirely sure on the exact numbers for this one), hes either average or a slightly above average mid-range shooter. He also shoots 87% from the line this season, 9% above league average. Statisically speaking hes an elite 3pt shooter, a great freethrow shooter, and an above average midrange shooter. The eye test proves this, as similar to Khris, they both have the ability to shoot and make shots right over defenders due to their shooting forms. Although not exactly the same due to sample size, in his 3 games for the Nets just under 41% of his total shots were unassisted, and in Khris' 17 games for the bucks, 54.2% of his were unassisted. Keep in mind this is the first time in his career he has the greenlight to take heavily contested shots. Hes an Elite shooter, and although not on Khris' level yet, he will get to that same level of difficult shot creation soon enough.

As a Suns fan I’ve watched every game Mikal played as a pro. Due to team injuries, this is his first season he’s been asked to score as a second and sometimes first option. He’s just scratching the surface of his offensive game. Dude is going to be a 2 way star! Go look at Paul George’s efficiency in Indiana. Mikal is already better at the same age. George just had the green light to shoot way more attempts. Given higher volume and more reps I think he’s a lock as a 23ppg scorer with great efficiency plus ELITE DEFENSE. Also, he might have the best personality/likeability in the league relative to his skill set. Also, he’s the most durable player in the NBA! Mikal will be an all star for the next 6+ years in Brooklyn.

In the Sixers process they got to a point with Embiid, Buttler, and Simmons (who was defent) but it sorta failed. They passed up on Tatum to get Fultz, they signed Tobias Harris over Jimmy Buttler, they gave up Mikal Bridges, gave up on a young Jrue holiday (Imagine Jrue, Ben, Mikal, Jimmy, Embiid defense). On top of that, they drafted Vucevic at 16th but traded him right after, could of had Jerami Grant, and they had the 3rd overall pick in 2015 but passed up on Booker/Kristaps. He has shown that he is more than capable of a scorer to give you 20+ a night alongside with great defense if needed as shown by the 9 game stretch prior to being traded. Can he still put up those numbers on nightly basis now that his name is at the top of scouting report? To answer the question in the title - probably not. To answer the question in the video of him being an All-Star - it is possible in the East. (I do need to clarify that for me a All-Star selection doesn't automatically qualify the player as an actual star player) From Nets perspective this is excellent. Mikal Bridges appears to be the ultimate professional and hopefully will remain to be a willing role player should he not meet the requirements to be the face of a franchise. If that happens, 2 seasons from now when Simmons' contract expires the Nets will be a very interesting destination for free agents. They did, dude show3d me something when he defended lebron in the playoffs, his shot creation and 3 pt shooting has become better and way more consistent. And his motor is as high as it can get in the nba. Plus being from Nova with 4 years, dude has work ethic. Love watching him play. OG, Patrick Williams and herb Jones has the same potential

Bridges just tied KD’s season high. Mikal is the future and Dinwiddie should not ballhog and Nets will be winning games. I could see the trade being a win for both teams if Brooklyn can be set up for the future and if Phoenix gets a title out of it

He's such a likable guy. He may never become a superstar like Giannis or Luka but he has something that nobody has at his level - availability. After all, the best player is the one that is available to play.

facts love his attitude about playing. He was upset he couldn't play the first game right after being traded, never wants to miss a game. Don't know many superstars like that

Having KD on my SunS is awesome - but I love liked Mikal Bridges and Cam Johnson - both of those guys are going to be all-stars - Mikal might just get there first. I hope my SunS can get him back after his contract is up in 27.

I feel like on the suns he never got his chance to shine, especially after they got CP3. The team Brooklyn has built will let him shine and honestly they still could make at least the second round with how deep the team is now.

some graph data is nice, but it's mikals data relative to mikal. for example his touches per game and his percentage of field goals that are assisted. it's clear that mikal is using the ball more, but who's someone relative to him? y'know around 50 touches per game and %65 of his field goals that are assisted. for example is he similiar to desmond bane or zach lavine or bradley beal or malik monk? we don't know. i'd have like to see comparisons to other players

Brooklyn will be a 5th seed going into the playoffs. Starting 5: PG Dinwiddie SG Bridges SF Finney-Smith PF Cam Johnson C Claxton 2nd unit PG Cam Thomas SG Seth Curry SFJoe Harris PF D Sharpe C B Simmons I see Brooklyn making it to the 2nd round & done. Dallas & Phoenix will be done in round 1.

First... Great analysis! Like you, I really disagree with the nonsensical notion that players who enter the NBA later have a lower ceiling for improvement. From my perspective, you have a lot of one-and-doners who end up being fringe players at best. Look at the likes of CJ McCollum, Damian Lillard, and (to a slightly lesser extent) Jalen Brunson compared to numerous one-and-done players who are in the league but consistently floating around the edges. It's an unrefined take on NBA talent and probably why there are so many "projects" on NBA rosters. People should really stop perpetuating the line of thinking about "older" young players when there's proof to debunk it.

Do you think the Nets should try and get OG to add to Bridges? I just watched your OG video from before last season and it feels like if Bridges can make the offensive jump he has that OG could as well. Giving the nets the three top 10 defenders in Bridges, og, and clax, while also have Ben and DFS as very good defenders. Forming arguably the best defense in the NBA by a wide margin
