Insta360 needs to have the body expandable with MicroSD card for file transfer without the app I hate having to rely on the internet or an app to access what I shot at remote locations. They could also use bluetooth mic linking already. if the body unit IS NOT submersible under liquids: have MicroSD card slots, removable battery, and you got me as a future customer
Thanks for making the video. Experiencing a bit of buyers remorse on my Go 3. But then you mentioned the file size of the 4k. I can fill up my 128 GB Go 3 in a week. I’d have to move footage much more frequently with the Go 3S. As much as I would like the 4k and new features, I am feeling better about owning the Go 3. 😀👍🏼📸
Really nice breakdown of the features. I have anxiously been waiting for your review. I was hoping Insta360 would send one to you. I will be upgrading from the Go 3(with your link). Thank you for the vid.
I knew you were the one to go to for Insta Go reviews! Super excited that interval video mode is back again! I am definitely upgrading from my insta go 2 to capture my marathon footage. Can't wait for more of your insta Go 3s contents! Love from Japan
Thanks for noticing! I always try to stay ahead of the game. Be sure to check out the Livestream I did a few hours ago, where the audience could ask me anything about the GO 3S
Files are so large and it requires so much compressing of the file when recording that the battery overheats in the unit shuts off. Additionally you’ll only get a 15 minute video before the battery is dead if it doesn’t overheat. And a 15 minute clip can be as large as 4 GB. When you use the application and download it to your phone it takes forever. And if it’s running on it’s on battery power you can forget about using the camera when you’re done transferring the file. You have to wait for the camera to cool down before returning it to its home base unit to be recharged Which takes additional time. GoPro is the very best; smaller files, better audio/ video, and it does not overheat and shut off while it use!!!!!!
Mann I really been wanting the go 3 but now this camera came out of nowhere! Very happy I didn’t get the the go 3 so I can get the go 3s! That 4k 30fps is crazy on a tiny cam!
Hello!! Your information from your video is amazing Tks!! But I would like to more about photography??? I mean insta360 GOS is a good camera for make photos??? Because I’m already know its a good for videos and everyone talks about videos but what happens with pics parts?? Is good?? Tks and I’ll be waiting for your answer!!
@@TheTechPacker Thank you so much for all the videos you've made over the last few years. They are always insightful and helpful and some I revisit for reference when I need to figure out the settings, etc. Thank you, thank you.
My Go2 has a "Pro video" setting i always use, so no matter what orientation my camera is in that mode gives me FlowState stabilization, the option to adjust the aspect ratio during editing, and most importantly; horizon leveling. Is there a setting so that the Go3s standalone camera can be clipped to my backpack and regardless how my backpack is situated; rightside up or sideways, the footage taken by the camera will remain smooth and horizon leveled?
The footage looks a bit flat colourwise compared to the X4 footage - I am looking forward to any comparisons of the two cameras in terms of picture quality. Obviously they are different tools for different jobs, though. But I have the Go 2 and the X3 and a pain in the wallet... anyway, great review covering a lot of ground (apart perhaps from low light performance).
Great news that insta360 provides a « low cost » upgrade for the existing GO3 user. The website mentions that you need to pair the new GO3S with the « old » GO3 action pod. How difficult is this process ? I was considering using the new GO3S and still using my old GO3 with one action pod. How difficult is it to switch from one camera to the other with only one action pod ? If it’s easy, you get two good cameras for just a little bit of money …
@@TheTechPacker Thanks. The insta360 faq mentions that GO3 users need to upgrade the firmware of their GO3 action pod to make it compatible with the GO3S…. But not a word about backward compatibility of the upgraded action pod with the “old” Go3 camera after the firmware upgrade. So the question remains, if you buy just the GO3S camera only and use it with your GO3 action pod, can you still do something with your old GO3 (and how easy is it to switch between cameras) or can you just trash it :) ? Merci!
@@TheTechPacker ???? Quick reader will not work with a standalone GO3 or GO3S no ? It’s not listed as accessory for the GO3, and anyway wouldn’t work without action pod or am I wrong ? (And in this case we are back to the backward compatibility question between upgraded GO3 action pod and old GO3 camera…). This is really an interesting question, I know a few GO3 users and if we are sure that buying the standalone GO3S camera will enable us to easily use both cameras with the old action pod (used mainly / only as a charger and file transfer device for the old GO3) we would ALL buy it DIRECTLY ! Thanks again for your work !
Thank you very much for the video. Does freeframe allows to define variable angle when processing in App (barrel roll) as the go2 was allowing or is it limited to vertical/horizontal framing? Thank you very much in avance 😊😊
Can you set the exposure (+-) or record in HDR? Because your clip at the mic test is really overexposured in the sky :/. And could be even look better with a little underexposing. Otherwise I want this camera for my little son (2,5 years old
If I buy the standalone Insta360 GO 3S camera without the action pod. Can I still get all the features that the insta360 GO 3S has if that makes any sense
You would have to buy the card reader accessory too (assuming that you don't have the pod from the original Go 3) in order to get the footage off the camera, and to charge it - and I don't know whether that would actually solve the problem of not having the pod.
@@Ozpeter no I have a Insta360 GO 3 camera I was just wondering if I bought just the standalone GO 3S camera without the action pod. Could I still use the camera with my action pod and still get all the features that the new camera has?
Yes you can - affiliate lnk to upgrade just the camera unit in the video description and here: store.insta360.com/product/go-3s-standalone-camera?INRFFN1
Any chance they gonna make it work on the samsung find app? You can buy tags etc for samsung now, so surprised they not supporting samsung mobile devices too!
Thanks for this! Can I ask you a question ( or please anyone else with this issue please let me know) but is motion blur on TimeShift videos busted for you on the GO 3? I recorded a lot of TimeShift, and I’ve noticed now that when I export I can’t get any motion blur to work, and it looks bad. Funny enough it works on my Mac still, just not my phone. I’m dying for any fixes
I have been waiting for your review of the 3S. Am I correct that this still does not contain the quick capture feature from the GO 2 where you can press the button have it turn on take a fixed amount of video and turn off? I use this all the time while cycling skiing.
They’ve brought fixed length capture back, with various lengths of time starting from 15s. And they’ve just updated the fw for the GO3 so that’s it’s now available on that cam too :)
@@TheTechPacker that’s great news. I use the GO 2 mounted on my helmet for skiing and bicycling and all I have to do is reach up and hit the button once. That way I only take footage of things I want to record and don’t waste battery and storage on things I don’t want. Can you include that in one of your videos?
Thanks for the review! Really helped. Would you recommend it over ACE PRO? I will use it mostly for documenting travel and some adventures. I post long form for YT + social media. And what’s the best stick for go 3s? Should i get the mini or 114 so I have high shots? thanks a lot!
Ace Pro would be better for low light or if you need better audio as it can connect to external mics - bluetooth, wired and wireless. You can't connect to external mics of GO 3S or 3. Personally, for 3S, I use the Mini 2-in11 tripod with my GO 3 / 3S (affiliate link) store.insta360.com/accessory?INRFFN1 Oh, and I find the GO 3 / 3S more fun and convenient for travel content! Hope that helps
@gladisdmorales I think there are some close focus issues with ace pro. Check out my video last on ‘was I wrong about ace pro, and also comparison between go 3 and 3s
If you just buy the standalone Go 3S camera, will it update the software of your actionpod and will it will show the other options that isnt on the original Go 3?
Yes - the functionality of the new camera is based in the camera unit. There's a pairing procedure to follow, which i am will come with the new camera unit
It was a little variable eh? It was tough light yesterday, and it was auto settings. I wonder if the update to the latest fw now it is available to all may bring a few improvements - but like I say, it was tough light when i shot this
@@TheTechPacker the shots with you in the orange jacket(8:41) are gorgeous, thanks for sharing, I too have done a video about the GO3 and love it, but when its not sunny the footage is not as beautiful.

If I buy the 3s stand alone camera - and put it into my existing go 3 action pod - will I still get the new features? I.e gesture control, interval shooting, mega, Find my , less lag on the viewfinder etc?
The key features I talked about like 4k, find my support, easy switch, gesture control, interval shooting, are all in the camera unit - I did mention some of that. So yes, will work with a GO 3 action pod and have all those features
How do you get 100 fps and 200 fps? Cuz I just updated the firmware and none of the res go above 50 fps. (4k is 30 fps) Is this an app setting on your phone you use to process the footage to 200fps? (So not really 200fps?) Please explain...
Same sensor as Go 3. Upgraded processor and lens. 4k freeframe - I said and showing video! Not overheated in my testing. But it’s winter where I am. But watch my video for conditions where it could.
Can any small camera shooting in 4K? Here's the manual with temp recommendations "The heat threshold for GO 3S is 68℃ (154.4°F). When the operating temperature reaches 68℃ (154.4°F), overheating protection will be triggered and recording will be paused." onlinemanual.insta360.com/go3s/en-us/faq/heat?to=Q2&_gl=1*f36pgm*_gcl_au*MTI2MTA3ODQzNi4xNzE0NjIzMzQ3*_ga*MjQ0MDUwOTMuMTcxMDEwMzA2MA..*_ga_7TV2BE92TS*MTcxODQwMjU0NS4zNC4xLjE3MTg0MDI2NTYuNTUuMC4w
@MobileGameSeries I don’t know. It’s winter where I am right now. But insta360 advise to keep moving if filming in 4K to help cool it. You can always drop resolution if especially hot.
Is there any charging pod where the camera lens doesn't face outward? I liked the GO2 clamshell case because it looked like an airpod case and you could just shove it in your bag without worrying about scratching the lens.
Theoretically, I can see why you'd think that. Hadn't used my Black GO 3 in hot environments, and it's now winter in NZ for my GO 3S. Maybe someone else can post their experience?
I have the white go 3 bought on launch so I can't say much about it. But from my go 2 the overheating issue improved a huge lot, which si the reason I jumped on board the go 3 the first day @@TheTechPacker
@@TheTechPacker I guess if you're doing mostly landscape that makes sense. I find the flexibility with freeform to be refreshing. It reminds me of shooting free frame video with the x3 as well
Can you still reframe slightly your view in the app? So if the camera was pointed down a little bit too much, you can adjust the view but with limitations?
Once again no external mic ou bluetooth connection, a big NO for my use as motovlogger. The Go line could be the best camera for us bikers with this simple upgrade. Small, light, but without good audio...I'm going with Osmo Action 4 + DJI Mic2.
You say the 4K takes up a lot more space than does 2.7K or 1080P. But that solely depends on the bitrates of each. What are the bitrates by resolution? So, if for example the 4K bitrate is 120 Mbps and that for 2.7K is 100 Mbps, the 4K files will be onlt 20% larger, not twice as big.
It’s opaque to me. Info I got is that it’s gone up from 80 to 120 Mbps. Regardless, you’re going run out of space quicker and the Quick reader will be your get out. Or very efficient shooting. Or both.
@TheTechPacker Just inspect the files you have produced at 4K and 2.7K already from the new Go 3s using, say, the mediainfo app, and it will tell you the bitrate for each. Even at the max 120 Mbps, which is 15 MBps, you can record more than 2 hours of video on the 128 GB model, if I did the math right.
From a person who still using Go2, the Go3s is a little bit more tempting... However, with haptic feedback missing, that's is still a big no for my use. Does the Go3s has a clip length limit setting? The way I mostly use it is as a FPV camera on my cap in a pretty noisy environment, so I can't see the light, or hear the beep very well... I'm quite depending heavily on these two features.
