What did you guys think?! Thanks again to Sweetwater for sending this little monster out! If you want to pick one up and help your boy out, get it from HERE: imp.i114863.net/MXMRQ2
Kyle if you haven’t, can you please test this out I think you’ll like it a lot and it’s built well The PRS Mark Tremonti Signature MT 15 - 15W Tube Guitar Amp Head !!
I actually love mine. Different tone for sure, however for those Adam Jones vibes they nailed it! I dialed mine in much differently and was really impressed with the results for it only being 30 watts solidstate. That Diezel growl is really great for blackmetal and death metal tones as well! I applaud your honesty even though you battled with it and still achieved likable tones yourself.
This amo sucks, its a cheap boxy muddy version of the original. I dont know what Youre hearing unless you never played a good high gain tube amp In your life
Good honest video, very informative and really pushes this amp through the paces. Thanx for posting.Good idea with the tube screamer. My self I like the diesel vh4 mini very clear and not the typical fizzy, thin distortion present in most solid state amps. Tried one today and liked it right away, I bought it after playing it for 10 minutes. Good for both heavy riffs and early metal . Can get both good rythym and lead tones.
This is the one mini I was interested in initially. Even though I've never been much of a Diezel fan. But I do love the focused design and control layout. It's not something I need, but they are cool little amps. Edit: Kyle, I'm glad I passed on this one. I can tell from your run through that this amp would have frustrated the hell out of me. Honestly, I wish the Bogner model would have been based on an Uber. That would have been a great little metal amp.
The Diezel VH4 is one of those amps that is totally misunderstood. People think it's this crushin gain monster but it's really a big broad sounding crunch machine.
I feel like these are mainly novelties, since there is a collective factor involved. I have all four that have been released so far, rumor is there were to be five, we'll see. They're basically the pedal version of their daddies put into nice little enclosures, all being identical except for the faces, obviously. I think they're fun, and I think that's all they're really meant to be. I don't think these were ever meant to replace anything, but it's just fun. They're great for bedroom playing when you need to keep the volume down.
These are really neat amps for the price. It's a shame there aren't really any budget cabinets out there to go with them because they'd be perfect for beginners or people wanting a conversation piece mini stack.
I can hear how the gain seems to need to ring thru to actually collect itself. Off the cuff, it des seem a little muddy. But allowed to ring thru, it seems to pull it together.
I’m not versed in these but being as the power amp in these is the weak point, it would make more sense to also run the preamp of one of these into the power amp of the aforementioned full sized tube amp…
Recording is actually what I feel these are best suited for. At the price you can just buy up a few of these to get a variety of recorded tones, either direct lined with an IR, or micd up they sound pretty great, especially in a mix. But for those types of people that insist you "need" a tube power section, you can always pick up a cheap tube amp to slave to it. I've personally run a mini SLO into a Peavey VK100 and it sounded pretty great
I might overthink this but hear me out. Most well-known VH4 users are Adam Jones and James Hetfield. AJ is associated with Les Paul Silverburst and JH with Explorer. You (maybe unintentionally) combine those to into Eplorer Silverburst :D
this would be tideous AF, but it would be an awesome video to A/B and time stamp all of your videos to just the demo parts of the amps. it would be useful in comparing how much they cut and chug in comparison.
I just bought one try it out. I was actually looking for the Soldano. Seems like you have to order those. I really like the sound of the freedmen just a little something different
I have one of these and love it, it kills my Marshall Lead 15 for the low wattage SS heads (it's probably because I run it through the same Marshall mini stack cabs, or my Kustom 4x12 loaded with G12T75's) ...although I've never seen you dime out the gain on any amp, i think that would be one extra aspect many would like to see...
wow, that's awesome man! this awesome video was really helpful, thank you for that. the price is awesome too it's actually more affordable than the Diezel VH 4 pedal which makes absolutely no sense to me. it's actually a huge pet peeve for me that distortion pedals can get up to over $300. theyres nothing high-tech about an analog distortion pedal Damit!... LOL. But these mini amps: Soldano, Orange, ect, and now Diezel! Just awesome!!!
I just get one I didnt like that doesnt take well pedals like big muff, overdrives like english muffn. The pedal that take well on the effect loop was the mxr eq . But distortion, fuzz and overdrives meeeeeh
I saw the VH4 and Krank Krankenstein on some older videos of Metallica's James Hetield... I love that guitar sound! is there any Way to get one of them to get as close as possible to his tone with that?
The preamp sounds great (I own the VH4 pedal/preamp) but the power amp just lacks so much body. Running a VH4 pedal as a preamp through a Mesa coliseum is crushing. So thinking the power amp in this thing is just underwhelming.
Don't go with a mini cab. Get a standard 1x12 or 2x12. Harley Benton makes good budget cabs. Under 300 loaded with good speakers (Celestions). This amp would probably pair well with V30s.
Thx for this test again! The vh4 is on in the mix imo but less to have fun jammin alone. Not a modern tone too. I'dd really like to see you test the revv g20. Having hard time to get my tone out of it!
i hate it. but i also hate super distortions. if the used market goes back to normal you should be abl to find one for 150 bucks and it could be great for some people, its definitly heavy and better then some line 6 bullshit or whatever.
@xbigdaddybx sticking feathers up your butt doesn’t make you a chicken. I don't think 30k subs on RU-vid and 118 monthly streams on Spotify can be called a "career". Adding a boost pedal to "make the mids more lively" while cutting all the presence out of the amp pretty much says everything about how knowledgeable you are. The presence knob is there for a reason and the VH4 doesn't need any frequency or gain boost, that's the entire point of that amp.
@@erenbecomesdovecrying6016 well, I get paid enough to live very comfortably, get given free gear, and love my life because I make my own schedule and answer to no one. Call it whatever you want, doesn't matter to me. I'm doing fine 🙂
@@belligerentamateur That's really great and everything, I'm sure your mom is proud of you and thinks you're handsome too. Doesn't really have anything to do with setting up the VH4 correctly.
Fyi everyone it is pronounced "dee-zuhl" no t in that word, check out this video on the diesel official channel with the creator to see Kyle bullshit is wrong - Diezel VH4 and Diezel Amp Basics: In-Depth with Peter Diezel & Peter Stapfer (subtitled)
