A piece of jewelry that may have belonged to a Varangian guard was found on April 30, 2021, in Denmark. This piece of jewelry is similar in style to the Dagmar Cross, which belonged to Queen Margaret of Denmark.

What a beautiful piece of jewelry that is. Still stunning after all of those centuries laying buried in the dirt and the woman who wore it must have been an equally impressive figure in her day and time. The earring clearly shows the skill these craftsmen had in creating fine things. Such an amazing culture. It would be fascinating to hear the story this little earring has to tell. Skjalden, you always find the the most wonderful topics to talk about and they always leave me with even more questions than answers, lol. Excellent video! Thank you for sharing this.

I wonder how many times over the years that earring had been pushed around or plowed under, etc. at or near the surface of that field before it was finally found? 🤔

The mind only boggles what else is in that field...

My first thoughts seeing the earring was "lunula" and "Byzantine", and the best crossover would be Varangian guard returning from Byzantium . Lunula or lunitsa jewelry was popular with Byzantine and Slavic tribes, which traded.

Absolutely stunning. Wouldn’t it be fantastic to buy only what you need but make it the best quality by some local craftsman or woman

I seriously doubt it's an earring as it has all the features of Finno-Ugric pendant. It even has Finno-Ugric world creation motive on it carved with stones and golden wire. The shape of the pendant is upside down depiction of moon which usually has a cross on the middle bulge that is actually depiction of the Sun. As far as known Viking age golden artefacts are exceptionally rare. It also has those semi-circle like hooks at the outer edge that actually depict waves on Finno-Ugric analogous pendants. Pity that YT removes posted links, I would probably post some for sources. This is an exceptional find. This also again confirms the suspicion that Viking took over Finno-Ugric, Ugric, and Samoyedic religion and build their own mythology.

That's a good theory! Interesting 🤔 I think think it could be an earring because of the small open ring on one side, which is one way they closed earrings in ancient jewelry, similarly used closures are used today. For over a millennia the same motif of jewelry was used in Eastern Europe and the Baltic regions. It's nice to see somethings preserved in the culture and styles for so long that they can be easily recognized today.
