100%, I kept hearing tid bits from his stream every now and then but I literally only knew when the livestream was going to be live when I actually got the notification for it.
It wasn't marketed well. I learned about it from a random community post on the day of. Plus, I was excited when I learned it's inspired by taskmaster, but many people in chat clearly had no clue what that is
Same. I still have no idea when the next episode is. It is not the job of the viewer to figure out information about a show they don't even know exists.
I think what people mean is it would have been way bigger if Lud announced it a million times in his videos and streams like chessboxing it would have doubled in veiwership.
Comparing it to Mogul Money is also stupid. Ludwig's channel was like 3 times smaller back when it was released, so if the new show is getting as many views, its actually relatively unknown.
Unpaid Intern rocked BTW. That said, I feel like his main argument for it not "flopping" was "it did about as well as the first Mogul Money" But I must call some major copium there, MM was years ago, and Lud has gained a LOT more poplarity in the past couple years for events specifically. To me it was clear for two reasons why this show did not get as many views: 1. Lack of marketing 2. Last minute time change from the little marketing they did do He blames the lack of marketing on the trailer not being ready until a week before the show, but I also think this is a bad excuse. You shouldn't be planning the stream date until you have the trailer and marketing material ready imo THAT ALL BEING SAID. I absolutely loved it, if lud is happy with it: who cares, and the next one will be even better
2 things just to mention, the date was chosen based on everybody’s availability so that might’ve been the best time for it and also while might’ve gained a larger following when it comes to RU-vid videos his livestream average is still relatively the same
I mean sure the viewership could've been a bit higher but at the end of the day 50k is 50k. You don't have to grow exponentially for the rest of time for your events to be successful, 50,000 people watching your show all at once is already a dub imo. I do agree that the advertising was ass though, I only watched it live because it happened to pop up on my homepage, I completely forgot that it was gonna happen until I saw it.
Yeah I also thought it was weird that his bar for "it did well" is based on something done over 2.5 years ago. He surely knows better than that. I agree with you, I literally watch all his videos and streams and I didn't know anything about the show or what it was until the day of and I had to look it up myself. I think the show DID do well, and all that matters is if Lud and Offbrand are happy with how it performs. But yeah I think it seems obvious from my perspective that they could have promoted better so I was a little shocked when Lud doubled down, because he's usually good at owning up to a mistake or understanding how something could have been better. So yeah, seems like major copium. But if he and Offbrand are genuinely happy with it, thats all that matters and who cares
I agree with the marketing feedback. I had absolutely no clue it was happening until I randomly tuned in (on the 2nd or 3rd day? Was there several days? Idek) and had to put some pieces together to realize it was an event/show stream. Mind you I watch most of Ludwig's content, from his main channel to Mogul Mail to The Yard to The Yard patreon. Never heard about Unpaid Intern or an event or a show or even a special stream. Maybe I missed it at the outro of a video or while busy when listening to The Yard, but I feel like something of Unpaid Intern's caliber should for sure be mentioned a few more times in the leading days/weeks. btw I loved the show, I hope we get more episodes/seasons! :)
fans: "Hey Ludwig, this event was poorly marketed, we'd love to know in advance next time if youre doing a cool stream, thanks!" Lwig: "No, youre wrong, we advertised enough you just dont get it because you're not a streamer like me Mr. Armchair QB."
Yeah, his response to the feedback was so weird, like he seemed bothered that people wanted to actually know about the event before hand. As a casual viewer I had 0 clue this happened until I saw the vod uploaded but tleven then I didn't watch it till later since I had no idea what it was. Seems like a really simple thing to acknowledge that the team could have done better
It doesn't make sense how you can even deny something like this. When you are marketing something, your goal is to reach as many people as possible. When so many people tell you that they never heard about the show, how can you just say "No, you're wrong, you should've known about it."
Agreed, also the take on "I wont listen to your critisism because I am harder on myself than you will ever be" might be the most retaded take he's ever had @@20009152
For real, lmao, so weird to hear him say “What you rocking”? As a response to the viewership. Bro I didn’t even know it happened until the video came out, and only watched it because Schlatt was in the title 💀
Same. I 100% thought it hadnt happened yet. Where do I find the video for it? I saw a teaser and it looked good but then I heard nothing. Edit: nvm, I watched a few more min and it seems to be a VOD / livestream. I do not watch those. Ofcourse I did not know about this. If he releases an edited version I will watch it.
I am a huge fan of taskmaster and have been watching for years. Honestly, I loved unpaid intern because it had a lot of the best parts of taskmaster with a whole different group of people that I also love. I loved that you kinda even replicated the dynamic between Greg Davies and Alex Horn. Stanz really aced the Alex Horn role whilst also making it his own. Please keep doing this show I loved it.
as a fan of taskmaster it just felt like that but so much less funny they need really cast and better tasks for it to even close to compare, stanz felt nothing close to like alex horne. Mabye I'm too British
the first "task" they did in unpaid intern was really good and felt unique enough from taskmaster and made sense. the rest of them were complete nonsense. what sort of jokes can come from talking backwards or blowing a bubble
@@Ramsey_erdos professional comedians will always be different than most content creators, this is more about seeing your favorite creators do tasks, maybe it’s funny cause it’s awkward or funny cause they are dumb, but it’s less likely to be funny cause of jokes they make. Ludwig said The final task will be improved upon along with various other things. Stanz was great, he doesn’t need to feel like Alex, he did his job well and he was one of the best things about the show. This show won’t be taskmaster and it won’t be better, but it’s its own thing and does appeal to a big audience.
@@kieran1366it looks like my comment got deleted for saying that the blowing a bubble task was a ripoff of the taskmaster season 6 task “blow the biggest bubble”. If they don’t want the show to be just like taskmaster come up with your own ideas and don’t silence people calling u out on being unoriginal @ludwig
stanz did a great job differentiating himself from alex horne but also filling that same role also i'd like to see some of the Group boys as contestants
@@user-gp6lq5mg9z it is all relative. before the stream to his chat he was hyping it up a bit the week before, but once it came out it peaked at like 50k viewers. that GREAT just chatting numbers, but pretty subpar Event numbers. for example, Chess Boxing had about 315k peak, and dodgeball has like 96k average viewers... so 50K is pretty low relative to his other events
I think people only perceive something as "under advertised" because they themselves wanted to have known about it sooner in order to get more hyped for it. Like people hate ads but having an event constantly pushed in your face does make it feel bigger and more important and it helps the event feel satisfying once it actually happens . It's like, trying to get excited for the premier of a new TV show but then it just plays like any other show with no fanfare. Even if it did good, they want the fanfare to make it FEEL like it's doing good
No, there was almost no information given about the show. Let me ask you something. Do you know when the next episode is? The whole point of advertising is to get information to people. Clearly, people are not getting information, which means the marketing is poor.
I did not know this EXISTED until this video! And im a casual viewer of ludwig videos, ludwig clips, and The Yard and yard clips. It was definitely the lack of advertising it. I also think its a different format to the usual videos of your i enjoy so i may not be the audience for Unpaid Intern. And thats okay.
Yeah same, if I didn't get just the VOD of it recommended to me, I wouldn't have known until they talked about it on The Yard. uncomfortable to see Ludwig not admit it was just not advertised well to people who already watch stuff.
Please do more stuff with Daniel. I’ve watched him for years in addition to you and some of the others, and he meshed so well with the vibe. He should definitely be brought back for a winners episode of Unpaid Intern but also he should just be part of more collabs in general.
On The Yard, Slime asked why he didn't end up in Stanz's role since they had originally planned for that. Listen, I love Slime, he's really funny, but this show doesn't work without Stanz. The assistant (or "Alex Horne") role is all about finding the balance between maintaining structure (explaining tasks/jobs, making sure contestants are able to do their best to complete them, introducing the videos) and enabling comedy (telling jokes, encouraging contestants to try weird strategies, allowing for people to make jokes between the videos). On one hand, it's a gameshow where everyone is trying to win, completing "jobs" to the best of their ability, but on the other hand it's a comedy show where contestants should be daring and should fail, and where keeping score has to be second to jokes, so it's a really tough balance to find, and the assistant is the biggest make-or-break in the show. As Ludwig said, Stanz is a really big Taskmaster fan, and has seen enough to have a good sense of that balance and a willingness to play that role. Anyone else would probably end up taking too much attention or being too scared to take enough, or too focused on maintaining the competition to allow for comedy or too focused on maintaining comedy to allow for competition, and any of those things hurt this show. There's a reason why, in Taskmaster, the assistant role is played by Alex Horne, the creator of the show who had previously hosted two live shows with a similar concept: it requires a deep understanding of what the show should be and feel like. Not to make this already overanalytical comment even nerdier but it's the same as being a dungeon master in a D&D game, you don't control everything and you have to embrace what everyone else is contributing, but you need to be the one who has a sense of where the story is going, gently guiding everyone else towards something that is both what they wanted it to be and what you needed it to be. Slime is great, he's more than capable of hosting a show, we all know he's hilarious and he can enforce rules when he needs to. However, no matter how talented you are, this format requires the assistant to have such a strong awareness of the pace, the contestants' dynamics, the audience's feelings, and overall vibes that it's nearly impossible to nail first try. Luckily, Stanz - although understandably seeming a little nervous in the live segments, meaning he's only going to get better as he becomes more comfortable - has that awareness because he's so familiar with Taskmaster. The first episode of Unpaid Intern was great, day one you hit the ground running, and that is without a doubt because of Stanz.
I loved the unpaid intern , but honestly I did not expect it, I've seen the trailer on RU-vid but I didn't really gave it a lot of thought and the show felt like it came up out of nowhere, I think a better Idea would've been to either post the trailer on the main channel or put it at the end of couple of main channel videos. Just a thought
as a taskmaster fan I did really enjoy it and it did feel different to the source material but in a good way. and i would love to see more episodes done! i think the hardest thing would be having good guests that can play off each other well
ngl i was hoping that it would be more like taskmaster where it was a whole season with the same guests for a whole season and the points were added up at the end. But i really enjoyed watching it and am super excited to watch the next episode.
@@Baegettrue, its also probably harder to get content creators for multiple hours and days instead of a once or twice for one time, but I do get OP’s comment
Yeah, it would probably become an issue when they run out of people who want to and can do it, sense it seems to be in a studio in California. And it seems like a lot of editing to do a whole season, but maybe then they could actually have time to advertise it
What was going through your brain when you decided to release the Unpaid Intern trailer on your clips channel? Thats a main channel type of upload. Completely fumbled the bag with that
I loved Daniel thrasher, I’m very interested to see how the show might change if the dynamics are different. I don’t want to say this is just “mogul money 2” or anything, but with mogul money the show was very different when the people knew each other well (the episode with the yard boys, miz+sodapoppin), and those were some of the best episodes, but honestly this episode kind of felt like it was better because none of the people were particularly “associated” with each other. You mentioned on The Yard potentially having Almost Friday on the show, I’m interest to see how that will compare to this ep. I feel like a psychopath writing all this down, but it is really cool to see this very personality driven industry intersecting with this type of content, it’s kind of like Jane Lynch’s “Hollywood Game Night” if the guests didn’t seem like they were being held there at gunpoint
Tbh from the thumbnail of the video I didn’t even realize it was a special video I thought it was a vlog or something The thumbnail for this video caught my attention way more!
Honestly, I NEVER saw any advertising for it most likely because everything relating to streamer awards was getting pushed to me still at the time. I agree that lud couldve had more live viewers because i was captivated the entire vod. It was the best Ludwig event stream imo. It was amazing and I hope he keeps it up, but if there's anything he can do better its really just mentioning it in his videos like how he did with chessboxing and other events. Doesn't have to be solely a trailer.
honestly i think it was a very good first episode, i was so invested that i genuinely stop everything i was doing to watch. I wasn't multitasking while watching. Hope to see more episodes! It was very good the cast for the guests as well, they are so good for the roles
to be honest, i watch your stuff pretty frequently and i genuinely had no idea unpaid intern was being released until the video just showed up in my recommended. i knew it existed and what it was about beforehand from the content you put out mentioning it, but i had no idea anything about the date it was supposed to happen for some reason and im not sure if it was because the date wasnt apparent enough or what, but i feel like most people likely had an issue similar to mine in which we knew it was coming but didnt really know an actual date. (also im aware you tweeted about it but god forbid i touch twitter, most normal people are probably similar on staying away from twitter as well)
It came up in my RU-vid feed about 2 or 3 days ago, I watched it in it's entirety and enjoyed every second of it. I left it hoping there was another episode to follow. Problem is I just never knew or heard about it until it happened to come into my feed by chance!
Yo, I thought the show was great. The only problem that I had was that I watched the teacher part of it on this channel and it took me forever to find the name of the show. For the future, if you could add a link to the vod in the description, that would be great!
Honestly. This is “bringing back” a lot of nostalgic gameshows/hostshows imo. I really love this form of entertainment and Lud being the show host is absolutely perfect. I enjoyed unpaid intern to its fullest! Especially the full youtube vid.
I really liked the show, and the format. Everythhing was very funny and entertaining. Although the audio has a bit scuffed, on the pod they talked about the crew only having a week after streamer awards to do this, so big props to the audio guys and production. Overall very enjoyable and funny. looking forward to the next ep!
It’s just ahead of it’s time. I thought it was a great concept and video. Didn’t know it was coming but it is the type of production that paves the way for many more RU-vid based shows with a good budget to take place. I luv u Ludaddy
Just saw the edited video. Had no knowledge of what the show was before that. I loved it, and then saw this videos title and got super worried we weren’t gonna get new episodes.
I usually always try to watch his big events live but didnt even know the unpaid intern was livestreamed. Definitely could've mentioned it more in advance as I would've loved to tune in live for this!
I saw stanz video and had a helluva time finding it today. Please don't stop I love it !!!! It just needs to be linked in your players videos and promotion better cuz I couldn't find it to save my life
I’m a regular viewer of Lud and had no idea about this event until I saw it live halfway through its run. It was a fun stream with a great cast. Could have done better with more publicity
As a big fan of taskmaster, I never even thought of it being a ripoff or even related to the taskmaster until you did the "I legally can't call these things tasks" joke. The concept is executed in such a unique way that it really feels like an original show even though you're just a no-good thief.
I thoroughly enjoyed unpaid intern. I didn’t really hear about it until I saw the upload but it was by far one of the most creative video ideas I’ve seen in a long time. The commercials? Fantastic. You did a great job man!
I love how in denial Ludwig is that the advertising didn't suck absolute ass. I had no clue this event existed or even happened until "Ludwin" the fucking clips channel literally just posted this video! I would've loved to watch the event live if it was properly marketed!
Bigger number better person In all honesty, I think your community really just wants you to wildly succeed in everything you do. You’re a hilarious guy and make great productions so the longer we can farm you for content the better ❤
I loved the vibes of Unpaid Intern and am excited to see the riffing get better as the show progresses. I would love to see some of the background elements, like Jerma's broken printer act as segues into announcing the "jobs not tasks." It's an awesome show and I'm excited to see more of my favorite creators in new episodes.
I watched it and it was really great and fun, what anooyed me the most and almost had me stop, was the sound levels of the vod. It was very low and the youtube ads then turned out to be -extremely- loud. I couldn't really relax because I had to be on my toes about turning the volume up and down.
