I thought the setup of this episode was awesome! It was exciting although the outcome wasn't what you were hoping for! I hope it gets found! And if it does, Lars should trade one of his current tour-kits for the old one! Or have Tama get them a replica. Because, who wants to have to give up their drumset!
No Hoshino camco kits were power sizes..also I don't think Lars painted the insides?? And you can't sand the inlay off without taking the whole outer ply off
This is crazy. You guys were just talking about Lars Ulrich's stolen kit in the 2 part series and I can't believe you've already got a lead. Nutso. Fingers crossed
With all due respect, I’m surprised you didn’t just scrap this video. You take us on a ride and then it turns out to be nothing, which is only cool because you’re taking us down your POV on this matter, but unlike the other quality of your work, this video feels disingenuous. It reminds me of some discovery channel Bigfoot, Lochness monster show where the previews are created in such a way that the evidence is unrefutable and then the conclusion is that it’s a whole lotta nothing.
I appreciate the feedback Zedd. I definitely debated releasing it but I am glad that I did because I think it was a fun process (although disappointing in the end). Long story short, this video did well though, so now I am going to only release videos of me hunting for The chupacabra with no actual results :) Back to normal stuff next week!
I wish you guys could somehow get in touch with Lars' and have him give details about the paintjob and stuff. Someone might be sitting on a piece of Thrash metal history out there somewhere!
I live about 40 minutes away from this guys shop. Im gonna start snooping around the area and see what I can find. I still play a 9pc SwingStar kit from the 80's because it was the closest thing I could afford to Lar's. Ill hit ya up if I run into any worthwhile info. \m/
I remember hearing about Lars' kit being stolen as we had seen them for the first time on the Kill Em All For One tour, with Lars' original kit. with almost 40 years passed they are very unlikely to be together, and almost certainly been refinished. aside from the guys who stole the gear, there's definitely someone out there who knew the guys that did it and someone who knew about some used stolen drums being sold in the area. or maybe a local unscrupulous music shop owner who bought them, refinished them on the cheap and parted it out. all you need is one good lead on one of the drums. your audience will likely be checking the classifieds in the Boston area from now on :)
I don't believe this at all. You can see the bullshit written all over his face, and way too many of his answer were very clearly made to lean more into Lars, even calling the toms power toms was obviously meant to back up with Lars later use of power toms yet camco didn't even do power toms
I loved the first two episodes but this is getting better and better.... thank you and I look forward to the next episodes of "Search for Lars' stolen Drums" hahaha, thank you!!!
Something tells me nothing would bore Lars Ulrich more than a discussion about drum equipment, especially a shitty Camco kit from 40 years ago..... But I find it interesting AF.
I thought I caught something he said he got them on Craigslist I assumed Craigslist launched in the 00’s but I was wrong Craigslist launched in 1995 by. I believe it Startes as an Events Website Anyway i was just fact Checkjng the claim of where he got it Back in the nineties I bet Craigslist was 80% stolen items 😂
Necco Street is where old Channel nightclub was in Boston. It was down by the waterfront which is now the swanky/overdeveloped Seaport District of Boston.
I must say...back in the 70's...many drummers painted their older kits black. I know 5 people personally who did that...most were Japanese kits and were cheap to buy. So lots of people painted kits black back then but Camco were not common so who knows?
I have a camco Renaissance kit. I bought it 10 years ago. 22 kick - 12 and 13 rack Tom's plus a 16 inch floor tom. I added a 8 and 10 inch concert tom combo that I found I n reverb. The primary kit is fabulous the concert Tom's are 7 of 10. Great sounding kit. Can you believe Tama just came out with a 50th Anniversary artwood snare to match this inlay pattern. Crazy! Should I sell thus kit or buy the Anniversary snare and hang tight? Think I'll sell the kit. Got to many kits. Great classic tone.
What a croc. JUST CLICK BAIT. This kit is no where near lars's kit. This kit has 16inch bass drums not 14in. Then the dude even says he bought the kit in early 80's. You guys are gullible and got conned.
I found a picture online of the stolen Camco kit. To me It's pretty clear that the lugs on reso side of the bass drum are different from the ones on the batter side. It must've been very hard to find and buy a matching Camco Renaissance single bass drum in 1983. That's why I think the added bass drum most likely was from another brand, and my guess is a Tama Superstar. The lugs in the picture looks like the same lugs used on Superstar/Imperialstar. And the hole spacing is the same as on the Camco kit. The hardware, spurs and bracket are also the same. He probably swapped the lugs so the bass drums would look the same. That might've been the reason for the refinish in the first place?
Those Camco lugs looks like the Tama “Tamco” lugs which DW went after Tama for using those lugs. Which makes it more of Tama than a Camco anyhow. The dubbed “Tamco” kit added tabs to the Camco turret lug.
I love the show. One of my favorite podcasts. As mentioned Chris will be doing a studio drum set podcast so can you ask him how Lars got that fat,wet deep bass drum tone on the justice for all album?
So no original black paint, inlays are “gone”, and the hardware is gone 🤨. There is no way this could even be validated even if the tom sizes were correct.
That is a very valid point. I think the dream would be if it was discovered in a basement somewhere with the original Metallica heads on it and all the cymbals set up. We can dream!
Seems strange that his kit is yellow just like Lars 72 seasons kit. It would be so ironic if this was actually the one! 1st and last kit combined!!! 🤯🤯🤯🤯
Was the original inlay, really an inlay or a decal like tama uses for their logos on star drums now? From what I understand the Camco Renaissance drums were made after Tama acquired Camco.
Whoever bought it back in the day would have had no idea that it was Lars' stolen Camco set. They would have just seen it as a used, black drum kit, and treated it as such. It could very well be in someone's basement somewhere, or it could be scattered all over the world by now. It's probably best not to hold out too much hope of ever finding it.
@@DrumHistoryPodcast when I was on tour in 2008, I met a guy who had pictures from the late 80s where he was posing with the kit and he was wearing an Ozzy no rest for the wicked tour shirt.... the drums were stacked and the kick drums with Metallica painted on them were taken off and hung on the wall, all cut up like they had been kicked in. I stayed in contact with him, and the last I heard, the drums were sold two times despite being involved in the hurricane in new Jersey.
Noo wayy. No fukkin wayy. Theres just not way this things been in the dark for 40 years and last week you mention it and now it's been found. Unless your guest had something to do with it and knew about it as he was saying it
I was hoping someone would reach out after the previous episode. I also love your Pork Pie shirt! I love my Amber Pig Lites and Big Black Bob. Not to mention my comfy throne. Whenever I find a place that makes t shirts I have a Pork Pie shirt or Sweater made. I also like to draw the Piggy logo on the underside of my clear drum heads just to really be a dork, knowing I’m the only one who will really see them!
@@DrumHistoryPodcast That’s awsome brother, do you own or play any Pork Pie drums? Or is it really just that kool of a logo! Big fan of your channel by the way dude. What you’re doing is actually very important when you really consider who you’re reaching. Because of your episode, you may actually end up being responsible for finding the missing “Tamco” drum kit. Not to mention you got to interview the man who found one of Gene Krupa’s most famous Drum Kits. You’re certainly a big part of Drum History, which has always been very important to me. Drums are my life, so people like you are a very essential part in helping people understand why some of us are obsessed with Drums. Thank you
I really appreciate, that is awesome to hear! Yep, I have had a Pork Pie 12x5.5 maple in blue sparkle since 2002, and I got a "BOB" snare a few years ago and I have used a Pork Pie throne for probably 15 years. I would LOVE to own a real deal Pork Pie custom kit one day. Primus drummers were my main introduction to Pork Pie. Thanks for the kind words man.
@@DrumHistoryPodcast Oh dude that’s awesome! I love my Big Black Bob snare. My Pig Lites were sitting at our local music store for a few years and after drooling over it on a weekly visit, one day I asked them to take down the bass drum just so I could actually see it up close. That was it, I had to have them. Strangely, after owning it for only a week or so, the first gig I ever played with them, a girl walked up to me when I was packing up. She asked if they were mine, and explained how she actually custom ordered them from Pork Pie but eventually traded them in for another Pork Pie kit.
Funny thing about broken up kits and stolen kits, I have a remo kit that is the same master touch and triumph set up Vinny Paul used, the numbers date it later but it is an amazing kit itself lol Also have a bass cab that was supposedly owned and toured by Steve Miller band lol There a lot of gear out there, who knows who owned what! Lol it fun to try to track down, good luck with it. The rickabob kit from the gene Krupa episode was awesome, wonder who owned that
@@craigshewchuk9018 I love the Mastertouch lug design, but the shells are just too thick for me, so I'm planning on using the hardware on a future set. Also, I have in my possession a hot-rodded Mesa/Boogie Quad preamp (with footswitch) that Mark Knopfler supposedly once sold to Danny's Music in Everett, WA while on tour. One other thing: It's hardly unusual for young metal drummers to decide at one point that painting their drums all black with rattlecan spray bottles would be a killer idea.
@@JessesCustomDesign Why is he saying that it was May then? You maybe right, not saying your not, but... He snorted so much cocaine back anyways, so...yeah... you're probably right, lol.
