@Yammie Noob Finally!!!!! That being said I have a 14 cbr650f. So before they changed the name to the 650r and redid the front half of the bike and added the Showa big piston front forks. 14-18 had Showa bending fork or whatever they called them. Once i get comfortable I will get a video of her up in the mountains or at the track.

I have owned quite a few middleweight bikes such as the Ninja 650, MT-07 and the CBR650R and I must say, the CBR650R is in a class of its own. The high revving smooth engine feels a lot more premium and is significantly more powerful than the usual twins in this class. The dofference is night and day. However, the thing I really emjoyed about the Honda was this premium, upmarlet feeling it gives you. It just feels so well built. The seat is of a high quality material with nice red stitching, paint is all high quality etc. The other middles feel like a toy in comparsion, it's a bit like going from a Mustang to a Mercedes. Although the CBR is quite comfy oriented (more similar to the ninja 650), you can still tuck in and knee drag it if you want, as that extra weight does offer a huge amount of stability and precise handling. I never rode an RS660 though, so I can't comment on that, but I would still take the CBR over all the other middles just for the performance and upmarket build quality alone.

Should never even mention exhaust sounds when one bike has a full system and the other is on stock. Any full decat non restricted systems on the cbr650r makes the r7 sound like a child's toy.

I think even if you pulled out a clapped CBR600F4i it would be a solid contender Vs the R7 or CBR650R. It's in between those two in terms of weight, has much more power and similar torque and top tier build quality, the ability to actually carry some luggage/a passenger and a centre stand for easy chain maintenance.

There is NO COMPARO between the CBR and R7.....The R7 is a Yamaha blue-light parts bin special ....a shite parallel twin, and the CBR is NOT !!! So what if it wheelies, my 500 single wheelies too. The Honda is the superior road going sport bike...want more pep, change the sprockets. But then again, for about $5-6K LESS, buy a nice low miles USED Daytona 955....
@justinpapin6397

@@carlmayer691 What's wrong with twins? They can make good street performance for a far, far lower cost of production compared to a 4 cyl. In most cases, there's just no need to use a more expensive 4 cylinder to hit the hp/torque target for a street bike
@cpteyesight
@cpteyesight 2 года назад
@@justinpapin6397 I'm not a fan of the cbr650r myself, but 650 parallel twins are just anemic. They have a linear powerband that dies down quick and vibrates. I'd take the sv650 over the cbr650r or R7 if I was forced to pick a 650, but I'd rather get a 750-900 triple/i4 in that price range.

The best motorcycles are 300-400hp/ton (combined rider and bike wet weight) with 3 or fewer cylinders. To translate that to bike examples, an RS660, Street Triple, MT09, KTM 690-890, etc. CBR650R counts, too, with a light enough rider. I think you guys should try a 49, 51, or even a 53-tooth sprocket on the back of the 650R, but also pick up a 17-tooth front so you can switch it back to something close to stock gearing with just 1 change and a chain length adjustment. A 17/47 will be the closest to stock, but as you said, even stock isn't perky enough, so yeah. But having a "slightly improved stock equivalent" with a 17 front will mean a REALLY punchy setup with the 15-tooth front. This is how I have my Vstrom 650 set up. 51-tooth rear, stock 15-tooth front, and I can get it back to exactly stock by simply changing the front to 17-tooth. Funny enough, the 51-tooth rear even clears the stock chain guard!

I agree with lot of stuff Yammie and Spite were saying about CBR as a CBR owner. However, that does not mean that you will be the slowest guy on the canyon road though. It is a heavy bike for its class but once you get up to speed, it leans pretty well and corners wonderfully. I've ridden RS660 so I agree that it does a lot of stuff better but at the same time I'm pretty confident that I can keep up with either R7 or RS660 on the canyon road with no issue. Just keep your RPM above 7k, look ahead, try not to focus on the rider in front of you too much and follow your line. Oh and understand the fact that it is not a super sport. I usually turn TC off when I ride on twisty road because it is a bit intrusive than I like but it comes back online if the bike detects a lot of slip at the rear wheel. I found out about that on my last ride lol. It is a pretty sweet bike for the street and also capable of chasing a lot of faster bike if you are skilled enough. I'm thinking about taking my CBR to the track soon, just to see how it does against better bikes.
@siraff4461
@siraff4461 2 года назад
For anyone who still doesn't understand you don't feel torque or horsepower. You feel thrust at the wheel vs weight. That thrust is going to depend on how much hp its making vs gearing. Yes where it makes that thrust is dependant on the torque curve but if its geared to suit thats not a factor. Example you have two bikes of the same weight with a similar torque curve. One revs to 5000rpm and makes 100lb of torque, 50hp with gearing to hit the redline at 50mph. The other revs to 10,000rpm, makes 50lb and 50hp but is still geared for 50mph at redline. The second bike will be at twice the rpm but will have exactly the same feel to the rider. When they say they are missing or feeling the torque what they really mean is where that torque is. This is also why doing top gear roll ons doesn't mean anything. If one bike is only geared for 120mph and the other for 150mph the slower bike will look better than it really is simply because of the gearing difference.

I would do another video with the CBR650R on the track against an R7 comparison. I bet you, with the torque band on the CBR, the CBR would edge out the compition. Ofc, using racing tires, not the stock ones. The CBR seems to have a low barrier to entry but high skill ceiling. The R7 seems to have a high barrier of entry but a lower ceiling of mastery.

I've done more than 6000kms in less than 5 months on the cbr650r. The more I ride it the more I enjoy it and let me tell you I do all-weather riding and nighttime riding too. Also, I park the bike on the driveway near a beach with a bike cover covering it and it starts every time all the time. This is a no-fuss bike for highway or city; for highway, it's very stable even on windy days and for city rides just lower the gear and rev it. The only negative is I have to be cautious on wet roads cos the tyre doesn't have much grip but traction control can manage it.

22:00 well, there ya go Spite being on R7 evens out the weight difference between the bikes and it all comes down to torque delivery & bhp Turns out, you really aren't missing out on a lot with CBR650R's bottom end. Drop a gear & it's a rocketship Ps: if the same rider is to choose between the 2 bikes, ofcourse the weight would make a difference. How big of a difference? Well, rider+bike weight difference between both of these is 7-8%, so the difference in acceleration between both bikes won't be that drastically affected. However, CBR would certainly feel less nimble

Don't forget everyone, add the absurd insurance cost to any motorcycle. Unless you pay cash and/or have liability only. I learned the hard way, never forget the cost of basic full coverage on a motorcycle. It's something these motorcycle channels never mention, because if they did, everyone would pretty much run from purchasing a motorcycle and therefore, not watch these channels any more. Especially a sport bike of any kind. 230.00 min to 1,000.00 per month!!!!, and that's with a clean driving record and 25 years riding experience. Yes, you read that right. Don't believe me? I think one thing I didn't hear much was that the CBR would make a great small sport touring motorcycle. One for those that like the older style like Connie 1400 or FJR 1300 but don't want something as big for everyday around town riding. I think they hinted at it with the VFR comment though. I do agree that Honda isn't meaning for this CBR to be a track day or canyon carving machine. More of a good all around bike with sporty looks and one you can put some high mile days on without feeling wrecked at the end of the day.

Some UK knowledge on this bike. For the middle licence which you can only get once you reach 19 or older you are only allowed a motorcycle up to 48hp OR! 96hp but have it restricted to 46hp. This is the main reason for the making of the cbr650r to comply with the A2 licence market. It's the highest modern HP bike you can get to comply. I am unaware how well it has done. I personally would pick up bikes such as the honda hornet, suzuki bandit, Yamha Fazer and other motorcycles with THEM engines in if I wanted HP for second hand price.

When you start this bike you know you paid a bit more but man it is swiss clock precision. My only complaint is the fork could have been a bit more spec up and a hydro clutch but other than that this is a perfect real world bike. The power is perfect. A no brainer buy imo. I'd rather mod a Ninja 400 or just use a proper 600 on track. It's really funny to me that the CBR650R has the ergos and wheelbase/rake of a street bike, but the engine of a track bike, and the R7 has the ergos of a track bike but the engine of a street bike.

It's not fair wht you say that the CBR 650R is quite, when you have a stock exhaust on the CBR and a SC Project exhaust on the R7. Put an aftermarket exhaust on the CBR and you'll see ✌🏻😎

Yea, I mean sure, if the track-riding is your main concern, the R7 is the obvious choice between the two. But I think you are a little bit harsh on the CBR here. You can take the CBR to the occasional track day no problem and at the same time have a comfy street bike. Heck, even most nakeds in this segment is fun on a track, yes even the pogostick MT07. So don’t shame Honda for having a guy dragging knee on the press photos. I am sure the CBR is plenty fun on a track :D

I already got 30k km on the CBR 650 R and I love this bike. I ride it on a daily base ( I don't have a car license ) and this bike fits me perfect. The only downside I could figure out is the pricetag. And my local dealer is still sold out, a friend ordered one last year in December and still got no bike.

So the Honda smokes the R7 in a roll race? I know spite weighs more but what if the same amount of weight was on both bikes and you put gears on the 650? I'm guessing the 650 wins again, and the dad bike is faster in a straight line.
@marcos1669
@marcos1669 2 года назад
Is because they used very low gear (I believe thery were both in 2nd) if you do the same in 4th or 5th gear with similar sized and weight riders, then the R7 would be way faster, and that would actually be a more realistic manner on how people drives the bikes in the day to day basis

Doa track comparison too please guys. To see how much of a better weekend track weapon the CBR650R is compared To the meek R7? Pretty sure the 4in line engine will come to life better than on street. And FYI, the small ninjas handlebars are higher than on the CBR650R (I owned both) For me it's the perfect hybrid bike for city/twisties and weekend track. But I like to keep it above 6000rpm, I admit.

In my opinion the R7 should not be called (R7) but MT-07R instead, because it is just a MT-07 with farings, and some upgrades (however still a MT-07 concept). I really love Yamaha Bikes, but that R7 is something that I would not buy one. Despite the CBR being heavier than R7, we could see at 21:50 on the acceleration test wich bike just stay on dusty. Therefore if you want go for a track I would prefer the cbr, because at the track you will use red light at the most part of time. Torque? Just when you go between cars on the traffic. At least it is my opinion, but I always say, doest matter what, you have to buy what you like more and be happy. 😁👍

Naw these type of 650s/700 arnt the fast bikes. If anything these are the bikes u can start on besides a 400 cause there isn't gonna be enough of an upgrade in performance to hold u down you really want a inline 4 cylinder 600 size bike as a second bike cause that's actually gonna have the speed and power your dieing to ride after gettin used to the 400

@@richpryor9650 I mean it’s still a gtr it’s almost like downplaying a lambo just because it’s a cheaper model compared to a million dollar countach. Like yeah the million dollar car is more hype but the gallardo still is a pretty cool and legit car at the end of the day. Idk just being a car person and not mentioning a rare-ish supercar car that’s right in front of you is kinda weird but maybe that’s just me. Plus I think the vette is more the Altima of the supercar world bc everybody and they’re mom owns one. I don’t see gtr’s as often as much if ever and I live In southern FL.

As someone who has a 650r i absolutely love it!! Extremely overlooked dont see many people talk about it. Everyone thinks ninja when they hear 650. This is by far the best 650 imo. The inline 4 is solid and its fun to ring it out but will still keep up with the bigger bikes

Cannot beat a Honda I4.....change the sprockets -1 tooth up front, +3. 4T...you like to go at least +6, +7 overall. Going -1 down up front on the countershaft sprocket equals going about + 3 Teeth at the rear. Probably could do it w/o even buying a new chain. Once you change sprockets, you'll be a giddy little happy shit every time you go WOT !!!

IMO, biggest issue is pricing. You can get a gsxs750, mt09 or z900 for the price of a cbr650r. Each of these bike is a different flavor of better. If you compare to the faired 650 only and ignore pricing the cbr is a lot nicer than the ninja, but the r7 seems like it would be more fun to commute on.

The CBR650R is underrated for 650 class. It's a perfect commute bike on HW or city, it's also a great machine you can take to chase the canyon! I learned SO MUCH on it as my 1st beginner bike! Late down the road I moded my bike pushing 90hp at wheel, then took it to the track and sure it did not disappoint me at all. The only downside of this bike is that it came out right before COVID hit, so most accessories factory were shut down due to the lockdown. There aren't a lot of after market parts for this specific bike yet...
