The entire reason I like these better, is entirely the reason you don’t. Lol. the refined future concept just looks more refined and fluid here, kind of high end designer feel. The 2002r looked less refined, more patchy and used/thrashed. Both models work great for different reasons, but there was absolutely an evolution of the rf concept here.

'Refined Future' is 100% the name, it was named this by the designer - and actually makes sense with the concept. 'Protection Pack' was made up by some random store and everyone ran with it, the designer said it makes him sad that it is known by this random name. Imo to pay respect to him the community should honour his wish. No hate JD, love your reviews, just wanted to share.

Some people call it Refined Futures (their correct name) because that is what the designer Yue Wu named them as. These are also not 1906R but the1906D, D stands for distressed "First, I do want to say there’s no such thing as the “Protection Pack.” I still don’t know why people call it the “Protection Pack.” The first store [that] first launched it made up the name and called it the “Protection Pack.” - Yue Wu

Another fire video from Josh. Love the takes and perspectives. I do respectfully disagree on the Protection Pack take though. It's always been a GR moment, so it makes sense that it would go to other models overtime and be done a bit more since it's not necessarily a collab related thing. IMO it allows them to give these silhouettes more life outside of just color blocking and not properly utilizing materials on GR styles.

I hope these are more comfortable than the 2002r. I wear the 2002r for work everyday, but honestly the cushioning is very firm. I wouldn’t say they are comfortable. They serve its purpose since I sit most of the day at work.

I'm feeling them. I bought these and the reflection colorway. They shipped, just waiting to see them in hand. I do own the Rian cloud, mirage grey. And Vintage orange 2002r refined future.. just want to see how these compare. Plus, I'm diggin the comfort on the 1906.

i think the same way they should just do the protection pack to 2002r, i rather not so into it anymore after have 5 or the protection pack. this model have more mesh material than leather also the GR version looks alot like asics, for me 2002r all the way

I totally agree with your analysis of this shoe. It’s nice, but (in my opinion)is not in the same league as the 2002R version. Especially the first few color ways. I was lucky enough to cop both the Castle rock and the 2002 R rain cloud. In my opinion, there is no prettier version of the refined future pack. Hopefully you do a review on the 2002r lunar new year. Those are close second for me.

I wasn’t a fan of them, unexpected W tbh. End clothing had the raffle for the black pair, entered night before woke up to a W. The black pair was underwhelming. Additionally the price was too step especially its full of synthetic and recycled materials. Nothing plush for that price. The suede wasn’t as good as 2002r pack imo. I expected the materials to be like the 2002r dark navy which was plush pig skin suede. Yup colour blocking was weird when it was transferred to the 1996R. Overall wasn’t won over and got rid of my pair . Fingers crossed for better executions or collabs. I recently picked up the NB 2002r The basement grey sail black so trying not to grab everything that drops 😅

Nothing, it's not their real name and was made up by a store. The true name is 'Refined Future.' My guess is the meaning relates to reused materials helping save the future, whilst also still having a refined/beautiful design.
