The guy who made the video clearly didn't do his research. Eminem was on Radioactive for Throw it up along with skits. Yelawolf has been very vocal about how that project wasn't what he wanted, they even changed his logo for the album. Yelawolf in my opinion is the 2nd best shady signing besides 50. Love Story went gold, Yelawolf has the talent and a decent sized fan base. I don't think he ever wanted to be mainstream, he is what he is and he's true to his art.
@mattl.3453

I thinks authenticity is why he's not mainstream and that's okay. He's not a club song you passively listen to while drunk but either you feel his words and try to understand. Most people now don't think. F*** it, some don't even say words or just "fuck cops, bang girls, I have money, pop pills like me" type shit. There's real shit and a lot others spewing a word vomit with the same feeling beat. Sad state of the music industry...

Yela has a mind of his own and I respect that alot. He never want to make streight up Hip Hop and I feel to really feel his music you need to have an open mind for other typs of music as well. I remember when I saw him 2015 (Love Story Album) on concert the variety of people was incredible. If you look at all kind of musicions that mix up music Genres like that they never pop like the big Names cause it is not for everyone and not everyone is open minded like that. One of my favorite Bands Skindred who are making Reggae, Metal, Hip Hop and Punk mix. They not popping in any of those Genres, they always going to be underground because same her people are not open minded like that. For those who are not getting destructed by stupid things like the Race or some out of the box beats or instrumentation it's just amazing and a new vibe. I love music like that. It those not sound like an old movie reproduced over and over.

As a long term Yelawolf fan (around 13-14 years or so, I remember waiting in college for Radioactive to drop), I agree with the title. I remember watching Radioactive come out, seeing Eminem push it so hard on Facebook (which I don't even use anymore lol), and being let down at the success of it. I wouldn't say it was the dominant narrative, but that's just because blogs werent as negative then as they are now. Overall, it's undeniable that we have never seen Eminem promo another artist as hard ever again. I think it was his last time trying that.

Alabama-native for 43 years. Moved to Georgia 3 years ago. We absolutely grew up and that the flag didn't mean hate. Hell, I've traveled all over the country. The south is the least-racist place I've ever been in. I love everyone, and I'm proud of where I grew up. I love Pastor Troy embracing the flag. That's what we all need to do. Edit: I fully understand the connotation. I'm only suggesting that EVERYONE in the south embraces it and it goes away.
@dickiedanger
@dickiedanger 3 месяца назад
I'm not disputing your experience, but I'm also 43, and have lived in Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee for all my life, and my experience is that flag is regularly flown by racists. I'm sure there are people who aren't, but in all the places I've lived, it was basically 1:1 people with confederate flags, and people who openly said racist stuff because I look safe. I also know several black folks that are completely unbothered by it, so I can see where some people think it's a wash. Kind of ignores all the people who absolutely do see it as more than just a "rebel flag" though. I personally share no space with racists, but I'll give everyone a chance, regardless of a flag, to be who they are, but honestly I'm never surprised when it inevitably comes up. All that said, as a life long southerner, there's no actual "heritage" associated with that flag. It was a battle flag for like at most a hand full of companies in the civil war. A war that lasted 4 years. The show Friends has more heritage than anything in the confederacy. What I find sad about the flag, is that it means so little in terms of our history and culture, but people create their entire identity on it. There's a lot that we southerners can be proud of, that is actually a meaningful part of our culture. Poor men fighting to keep rich men's slaves just isn't on the list. Ya know.
@3xceIIent
@3xceIIent 3 месяца назад
I can see why growing up in the south you might picture it as a pride symbol. After all it has been pushed as an agenda in the south basically since the end of the civil war. "The Lost Cause" trying to change why southerners were fighting the war, trying to paint veterans who were dieing in a better light. If it had stopped there it might have been fine. After all even with the Lost Cause narrative being a lie, a symbol people believe represents rebelliousness, good values or pride isn't a bad thing even if it came from a bad place. Ultimately the last 70 years have painted the flag in a very different light. It all started around 1950 when The Dixiecrats or the States’ Rights Democratic Party split from the Democratic party because of their pro civil rights policies. The Dixiecrats were pro segregation and anti civil rights. They adopted the flag as their own and used it intentionally as a racist symbol. It only spread from their by Citizens Councils and the Klu Klux Klan also adopting it with the sole intention of using it as a racist symbol. This process has repeated over and over. Some southern's claiming it is a symbol of pride while at the exact same time tons of groups are actively using it to intimidate and identify themselves as white supremacists. No matter how much you want to say it is a symbol of pride tons of people are using it otherwise. Some hiding in the open, pretending they don't believe the hatred, others proudly proclaiming their hatred and bigotry. There have been numerous polls showing how even in the south the majority are starting to associate the flag with a hate symbol. Obviously that is even higher among black people with it being around 90%. But if the majority, even in the south, believe it is a hate symbol then it is a hate symbol. No matter how honorable (or not in this case) the origin might be. The swastika had a perfectly benign meaning before the Nazi's. In fact it was that way for thousands of years. Much longer than it has been a hate symbol. But because it was co-opted by the Nazi's it is forever associated with them. No matter how much you specifically don't have any ill will when displaying the flag it has been used for hate for 70+ years and there is no changing that. If it's all about "southern values" perhaps it's time to claim a different symbol. One that isn't so intertwined with hate and bigotry throughout it's entire existence. Surely if there is no secondary meaning to displaying your flag then using another southern flag/symbol to display your pride is easy to do?

Yela only issue I feel like is being too musically talented. If you don't hone a sound, you can't build a fan base, so if u flip sounds, those Trunk Music Listeners may not take to Love Story, and then when you get back in rap bag. They've moved on. I believe Yela is an artist who will be appreciated much more as tyme goes on. You'll find these bangers, Stereo is my favorite Yela Project, Conceptual Album, front to back. The Intro to that album explains what I'm Saying more or less, but his talents are many and kinda all over the place. BEST FRIENDS IS A BANGER, but is it if Em doesn't drop maybe one of his best verses ever on it? IDK he's def one of a kind!!! Also having 3 1/2 albums trying to reclaim Trunk Music, and Box Chevy 10, seems like he keeps trying to go back to a dry well. Love his music tho, gr8 artist. Super dope and creative, but I don't think anyone thinks he maximized the Shady/Aftermath Potential. Credit to him for doing what he wanted to, and Em for letting him. Em looks like genius but how many Tymes Dre or Paul or even a Royce like IDK bro, that line may be a little much. All IMHO of course. Failed? Meh, food for thought!🤷‍♂️🙏

At the end of the day Yela's doing Yela and whatever comes of it, albeit over time, is not a bad outcome. We can always say someone could've done better. ie. What if Eminem didn't say controversial things in his verses, wouldn't that double his audience? Personally I don't think he should change a thing. I hope the new album is as controversial as the first.

I have a bunch of family in the south. The confederate flag doesn't represent slavery to them. I guess it represents the lives lost (less than 10% of confederate soldiers supported slavery) it has to do with taxes. The south was getting taxed like CRAZY compared to the north. They fought for freedom and independence. The winners get to tell the story and they made the stigma the war was over slavery when slavery had nothing to do with it at all

He's a rock star that's gonna do whatever he gone do. And that hard R shit, who's royces so called protege, there's 2 sides to the story. Trunk music 3 was dope as well and even included mgk, whom I don't care for but yela gonna do what he want, that's that up n down rock star shit, I respect it. Dude, I grew up 15 min from him. Know people that grew up around him skating. I have the same genes. It’s a fucking locality thing. It’s a slumerican conundrum. He’s self destructive like me. I take 3 steps forward and 10 steps back. He dropped Marijuana on War Story when I was inpatient mental health in the Tuscaloosa VA hospital. It’s a culture thing. He’s true to himself and true to his lifestyle. He grew up in a trailer like me. Dude will never sell out stadiums because he’s real.

That flag is still used to this day to express white supremacy and anti-black sentiment. It never lost that association. So for him to be displaying it proud and just calling everyone ignorant is stupid when he is the one being ignorant to the history and its ongoing use in racist movements. Especially while trying to secure a spot in a predominantly black genre of music. A lot of innocent black people died under that flag, and his 'get over it and move on' type attitude can totally be seen as ignorant and offensive. He had his shot and showed his colors. Life goes on and the rap world doesn't want or need him.

I think the last nail in the coffin for Yela was recently dropping the N-word in at least 2 recent songs! Hard Right and Country Rich with DJ Paul! Soft a's on those. I did noit know about him and this white DJ using the N-word with the HARD R until now. He is definitely a pariah now and deserves to lose everything he has! Now, Em used the N-word with both Royce and Proof as the hype man on their performances. But, he used the soft a ending not the hard R. So, obviously, Royce and Proof gave Em the pass to use it being he had no ill intentions by saying it as he was just doing what a hype man does and emphasize certain words or fill in the words when the main vocalist took a breath.

@JaysinStatic13813 3 месяца назад
What are you talking about? The song Country Rich the only N-word in it was used by DJ Paul who is a black man, And Yelawolf an Dj Paul have never done a song called Hard Right, Yela did a song with Lil Jon back in the day called Hard White, but there is literally NO N-word in it at all. So what the hell are you talking about? As for The Royce thing, no one, not Em, or anyone in the shady camp said anything publicly about Yela and the N-word. The only one who ever said anything was Royce, not even the person who Royce sent down there. You'd think especially at the time several years ago when all this "Came out" someone more then just Royce would've said something. As he was literally still under contract with Slim, he hadn't left at that time.

I'm not sure if this is a click bait title or if you're genuinely not aware Yelawolf said it himself, he just wanted to do his own music on his own terms - independently Similar to how Eminem set up Akon, Akon than went producer and made more money than he did singing

(Ok, Check It....) YelaWolf is an EMCEE Wit MAJOR SKILLZ Fa Sho!!!! When I first heard of him on Big Boi's 2010 Album, "Sir Lucious LeftFoot, Son Of Chico Dusty", on the track entitled "Yo DJ AIN'T No DJ", I ACTUALLY Thought that "HE Was A BLACK DUDE"!!!! Crazy, Huh??!! Smh, Lol.... But, Anyways.... Em WAS On the "Radioactive" album & "Best Friend (Feat. Eminem)", Was an EXCELLENT Song from YelaWolf's 2015 Album "Love Story".... *But, Yeah*.... Should've left the "Whole Confederate Flag Narrative" alone & NOT EXTREMELY "Attach Himself To It" from an Entertainment & Music Perspective.... Though "Empty Bottles" was ANOTHER EXCELLENT Song, Aside From What He's Done Thus Far Career Wise, Having an Alcoholic Addiction Among Other SERIOUS Issues is one of MANY "Roadblocks & Stunts" to YelaWolf's Musical Progression, Yet (As I'm Listening To This Video & Hear That He's Apparently Used "RACIAL SLURS" Such As The "N WORD", which is Not Only Disrespectful, But OFFENSIVE On EVERY Level, Btw) It's CLEARLY understandable as to HOW He OBVIOUSLY Disappointed & Was A Let Down to Who Signed Him, Eminem....✌🏽

Nevermind that's all RAP RAP... I'm not even listing 'Best Friend', and some of his other shit like 'HARD WHITE' Dude is a LYRICIST, can drop a VIBE w/ MAD Pen game, Club hits, and Slapping tracks for the ride.... I don't really know where he missed... I think it's more he moved back and forth too often and abruptly... 'Sometimes Y'?? Shhshit w/ the guitar riffs??? fire... 'Rock and Roll baby'? Devil's advocate here, Em never signed a popular artist after 50. And that was over 20 years ago. The music industry changed SO MUCH and the fans changed too. Nobody trying to hear lyrical nowadays. Dope rappers peak at 20k views on their videos while Cardi B makes millions and millions of dollars. Hell, Coast Contra Red Bull video didn't even reach 1M. That tells a lot about real rap in 2024. Also, Royce Da 5"9' is a punk. As Eminem's hype man, even he can't stack numbers as a solo artist. Look at his videos WITHOUT Em and even Yelawolf is more popular than him. Plus he never responded to Mickey Factz, he's a F.boy. There was no proof that Yelawolf was ever racist to this kid, which was never even mentioned either, so this story is all BS. Reality is, unless Yelawolf starts mumbling or turns Country Pop with Taylor Swift on the hook tomorrow, he will remain the successful independent artist he is now.

While the n word is discussed i gotta ask : Can a white guy say it but no hard r like often written ("n**ga") ? I get it started as an insult but then a lot of black people use is dunno why exactly. Culturally, I'm closer to most black people than white dudes. I grew my own roots with rock and metal but then discovered Yela. I didn't like rap before but with time and new interest in rap i now listen to it a lot but i don't say that word even though it makes it sound weird. Twisted insane, brotha Lynch, DMX, Dax, J. Cole, ISO, Hopsin (less lately, last album was not for me but still good I'd say)... The only white rappers i regularly listen to are Yela, Tom Macdonald, Eminem, NF and I think that's it. Used to listen to Mesus and be olay with him, showed support until the covid stuff I disagree about even though I get his reasoning (almost died of covid last year btw). So, yeah... Is the n word okay bruv, no hard r ? I'm asking out of respect. Most black folks i know respect is a given even though I don't trust most. There's only two black dudes i don't respect, not because of skin but character. QuantumTV, whole controversy... look it up. Nick Cannon, no explanation needed with this f***boy. Feel me ? The thing is the guy who's vid you react to sounds like Yela should have been mainstream af but he's the type you have to give a good ear because he's so authentic not a lot get him and that makes the why he's not mainstream imo. Do you agree with that ? I almost never reaction content but I'm impressed, that was a good one... keep up the good work ! I'll sub and check more of your shit when i got the time... busy atm gaming but gotta rush to be in time for releases.

No he didn't Fail Eminem. Shady records didn't know what to do with Yelawolf cuz there never been a Yelawolf be4. Everything Wolf is is Original. S.R. Could have looked at his old work and said let do this but better... Kinda what Wolf has been doing since he left S.R. Plus Wolf said it so many time be4.. He would always stay true to himself and his roots. Wolf is better than a majority of your favorite rappers/artist.. He might not you talks favorite cup of tea but that's be uz he's OUR favor Creek Water Whiskey.
