I have the 1010 and 2200. love my of 2200. I was so scared of it the first time I used it I thought it was going to kill me because of its size. 😂 It’s so controlled when it starts I can actually write with it and make signs with it. Both routers are worth every penny. Nice video Sedge.👍🏻

I have the new 1010 and the 1400. Sold the 2200 as it was overkill for what I needed. Next purchase will be the MFK 700. Not because I need it but because I want it! BTW, I picked up a LR-32 set this weekend and used it for the first time last night. Wicked easy to use, especially if you make sure you are starting off with a balanced panel!

My first Festool router was the 1400 because it could do basically everything. What I found was that while the 1400 can be used with the LR32 kit, the 1010 is a lot more convenient to put into the LR32 base plate. It's hard not to recommend the 1400 as your first, but if you're going to do a lot of LR32 work there's a big case to be made for the 1010.

Had a dewalt 1/2 for many years (the one that is basically the old elu workhorse) also have had a 1010 for many years. So very very good. My workmate has the 1400 and it is everything you need. I would probably recommend it highest as it’s small enough to use one handed like the 1010 but also powerful enough for most tasks. When my old dewalt finally failed after many years I die to go for the 2200 as I managed to find one Ex display for not mush more than the 1400. I also got all the extra bits which means it’s over a £1000 … crazy money , but omg I love it. It’s the finest router on the planet and it’s mine. One last point. I really can’t believe that when Festool updated the 1010 that they didn’t add an led ring light by the collet. I use mine mostly for routing hinges with a trend jig and putting latches in. Very often lighting is poor in an unfinished new house and an led would have made me upgrade my old one. Also Festool… where the hell is the 18v version ? Pull your finger out !

Don’t forget 3/8” collets, typically used for 3/8” solid carbide bits. Oh BTW, I have 6 Festool routers. I frequently use dovetail jigs. Having 2 routers to eliminate bit changing and calibration when routing a dresser’s worth of drawers is simply awesome. I have two OF-1010’s and two OF-1400’s. This is the one case I wish the OF-1010 accepted 1/2” bits. Many dovetail router bits are only available with 1/2” shanks. The OF-1010 has plenty of power for dovetail routing but lacks the 1/2” collets. I was very patient and found used routers for #5 & #6. In the interest of full disclosure, I’m a bona fide router junkie. In addition to the 6 Festool routers I also have 7 Porter Cable and 3 Hitachi routers, most being permanently installed in various router tables. I consider routers to be THE most versatile power tool in the shop! I’ve used only Festool routers for handheld routing since 2010.

I thought it was too big for some work so bought an OF1010 to go with it. Both are awesome tools and the others haven'tbeenusedsince. I just wish they used the same accessories. Isn't Festool supposed to be a "system "?

@@clearcut6818 I had Triton and Makita routers before I got the 700 and the 1400, and for me, the Festool routers are far superior in every respect. I still like my little Makita palm router for certain applications, but what I like the most is the dust collection from both Festool routers.

@@jtlong8383 I have the Festool CT26, it's a beast. I connect it with my metabo HPT cordless trim router, which is a clone of the Makita trim router, and it sucks up 99% of the dust. So my question is, how much better is the Festool router than a regular 100-200 dollar router? How does a Festool router justify its price?

Hey Sedge, I've got my OF 1400 with the table widener (makes a world of a difference!), but I find it a bit unwieldy for narrower pieces. If I'm looking to do smaller edge profiling bits (5/8 chamfer bits, 1/4-1/2 roundover bit), would you recommend the MFK or 1010 router?

Hey sedge, I am ready for an LR 32 system to be added to the arsenal. I was thinking the 1010 would be great to pair with it. I have a large Milwaukee in my router table, and I use an old interchangeable base porter cable by hand. After watching this I’m thinking maybe the 1400 is what I should buy as my collection of bits is much stronger on the 1/2” side, and if/when the PC dies I’d go with a trim router. Do you have an opinion on the 1400 with the LR32?

Great routers all. I have the 1400 and will be buying the 1010. My wish is that Festool would design a palm router (think Bosch Colt) with visibility, light and dust collection. The MFK 700 isn’t that. It’s excellent at what it is. The power end is already there. Design a base with a hole and a light - a mini 1400-like base - and I’m in tomorrow. Not bashing or being overly critical here. I’m in with Festool on quality and dust collection of the “system.” I’ve gotten the dust extractor and attachments, worked through replacing all my sanders and all the papers. Now doing routers and I hit a brick wall on replacing my palm router. Help a fella out here, Festool! 😊

Currently have my 1010 setup for door hinges, 1400 setup for the LR32 system, but also switch it over to run on my festool router table, but thinking of cheating and getting the new 2200 as my dedicated router table router. Thanks for this video. I am a hand tool woodworker primarily. I have some big projects in cherry where I need to make a lot of long dados and rebates by hand. Think fixed shelving and the grooves to accept a plywood back in a cabinet. As such, I need to make 1/4” deep by either 1/2” to 3/4” wide dados. That’s it. Which of these routers makes sense to you? I don’t know enough to know. Will go to Woodcraft eventually for some hands on evaluation. Many thanks.

Can someone explain how they (I am referring here to all of the manufacturers that are selling 3+ HP routers in the USA) are doing so with a 120V 15A power cord that literally can't supply 2200 watts? I am just now in the market, and was trying to find specs on exactly what the cord is being used on a couple of these since a standard US outlet is incapable of supplying that much juice, assuming it must be a 240V or a 20A cord. Nope 120/15A. So these manufacturers are able to defy the basic laws of physics now?
