Re. Shakespeare: The most important factor in the different structures of Shakespeare's works is that English is a Germanic language, the content of which (structure and vocabulary) is derived largely from old, high German. When Shakespeare wrote, he used much of the structure of this language, rather than that of modern English. More compelling evidence of German's influence on English can be clearly seen in Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales, written about 250 years prior to Shakespeare.

Luke Jespersen I agree with you! This video contains interesting and eye-catching facts but the creator of it isn't testifying to the implications of them. Firstly, he or she doesn't stress this in the face of population growth and how informational extraction given the world population hasn't increased much in even the past one hundred years and how information patents per thousand has actually declined greatly. He or she additionally overstresses the relevancy of the information we are discovering along with not addressing how so much of this information will later be disproved. Lastly, the supercomputer exceeding human computational capabilities is a viewpoint which is being looked at with more skepticism as we find out more and more how we haven't even touched the basics of artificial intelligence along with there being many physical limits to it.

I am amazed, but not surprised, by the speed of innovation. Yet, in the final analysis, what have we done with all of the info, the inventions, the technology--to better the planet, our society, ourselves? I think we ought to be sort of ashamed that with all of THIS, we still have war, murder, and a lack of desire to learn from our history.

It means that anything you can imagine can be. 20 year old science fiction is today's commonplace. Don't fear it, embrace it. Sure, we can now pinpoint a single human on the other side of the planet for remote extermination by robotic drones, but we can also provide distance education to people who would otherwise not get it. We can implement an emergency communication network in a matter of minutes to enable the voice of the people (Egypt). And we can build cars that avoid accidents.

Very interesting and informative. The bit about Shakespeare was a bit misleading though, since in his time, every educated person spoke, read and wrote fluent Latin, no matter where in Western Europe they resided. Therefore, Shakespeare had both English and Latin at his command, not just one language.

My fear is that we will become too dependent on all things electronic, and won't be able to cope when the lights go out for an extended period of time. The blackout of 2004 is a good example, when life came to a standstill because people didn't know how to function without the use of electricity. I think we all need to know how to survive in disasters, and certainly the earthquake and tsunami in Japan is a terrible reminder that anything can happen to anyone anywhere at anytime.

This video has a daunting character, it seems to scare, but I think most of the information there good! It's so good we are progressing! Isaac Asimov would be proud :-D About that supercomputer - I wonder if they are talking of that quantum computer? I've seen on a documentary that it processes much more information than modern computers and exploits particle-wave duality , but scientists have not yet figured out a way to get past the whole "observer" problem. I guess it's a matter of time.

Throughout human history, previous generations distaste for the new has been the rule, not the exception. The fact that so many of us now dislike and fear upcoming technologies, simply confirms the general pattern. If a knight from the European Middle Ages had spoken re. arrows and crossbows, his view would have been negative. The use of these weapons spelled the end of the socioeconomic dominance of knights. Despite the views of those nobles, though, none hesitated to use archers.

he adoption rate of new technologies does seem to be accelerating, however mass adoption depends greatly on mass appeal, mass communication and economic viability. Don't expect the exponential growth in adopted technology to continue at the same rate. The digitalization of information technology is at it's peak. What's around the corner is not likely to be nearly as world changing as the events depicted here.

We are drowning in raw information the quantity of which is on par with current Mississippi flooding. Too much of anything isn't always good, some times it is just too much. In Italy in the 17th century under-informed craftsmen made violins that we still can't replicate and we love enough to pay millions for. In Ancient Egypt with no electronic computation they built the pyramids, today we build handhelds that are obsolete when we buy them. Is moving forwards/up/down always progress? Maybe not.

@BurntCatMedia I don't believe because of blind faith. I know He exists! Many have bitterness toward God because they can't imagine a loving God in the midst of pain. A loving God at times makes no sense. I didn't find Him until age 40. Running, going to bars, partying all night, drinking and wondering how I got home. Not until I was depressed with thoughts of suicide, that I sought Him. I had to humble myself and realize I needed Him. REJECT HIM, WHO LOSES? SEEK HIM AND FIND PURPOSE!

"the amount of new technical information is doubling every two years..." how does that mean that half of what a student learns at school if outdated two years later? It's not like what was valid two years ago is no longer valid! There's not a 2-year cycle that starts from zero each time. We build upon what technical information was previously available to build new knowledge, which doesn't void the old one. That assertion ruined the credibility of that "research".

@crossmoss "when in fact if you move these students to America they would wipe out many people out of the equation of graduating." Fact? Graduation is defined as passing the course, not being the top % of students. No matter how many students attend the school, or how many more excellent students join the school, each student still receives the same mark, and hence graduation status.
