I think that if tony programed the quinjet to recognize nickname over true name, is also because only the true Avenger can know their nickname and therefore, it avoids the quinjet to be stolen by someone else ( people might say that recognizing voice is enough but it would be easy to use an record or to use a voice modifier to steal if so )
Thor is called Point Break because of his uncanny resemblance to Patrick Swayze in the 1991 movie, Point Break. In the film, Swayze has long blonde hair, much like Thor in The Avengers. Point Break is a movie about a group of robbers, who also happen to be surfers.
We don't know how many times Tony's Character called Thor "Point Break" in the movie universe. We only have that one reference in Avengers Assemble. It might have been enough for Thor to remember.
Tony coded in extremely vague codenames that only the other avengers knew after he got his tech stolen multiple times by people who were only somewhat close to him. Because Tony learns from his mistakes.
You missed the reference here. Thor looks like the character Bodhi (played by Patrick Swayze) in the 1991 movie Point Break, Stark is a master of pop culture references and as such, used that name for Thor in Avengers Assemble, eventually using it as his password for the Quinjet.
No. He uses the term point break because it is a term that only stark and thor know between them as he knows Loki was not there. Why? Loki can shape shift. It keeps him from using it for his b.s. he keeps committing throughout the mcu.
And we, the indian people, never know about it because we watched this movie in Hindi and in Hindi version, the word 'point break' was replaced by 'hulk' to which the system replies as "welcome, mahabali avenger", where mahabali in hindi means mighty & strong. So clearly, the Hindi version pointed us towards the ship's command control being feeded for Hulk inside of Thor.
Stark calls Thor "point break" in reference to the Keanu Reeves movie Point Break, Patrick Swayze also had long-ish blonde hair and was a surfer, Stark inferring that Thor looks like the surfer type.
fun fact, christ hemsworth is actually an insanely good surfer, which makes the point break line even funnier. there was this one time i was paddling out at second point malibu and there he was surrounded by like 20 people trynna talk to him. because there were guys on him, the spot 100 ft up was much less crowded, so when i paddled past, i looked at him gave him a shaka and a thank you nod, and he just nodded right back because he knew he was doing me a favor sacrificing himself in that crowd. dude is a hero irl and knows his shit surfing
If you buy the Electronic Mjolnir replica, saying the word "Worthy" into the hammer activates lightning & thunder effects...guess what else activates the effects... Yup, "Point Break" also triggers them...
Also makes sense that it's a phrase that only the real Thor would know. It's a SHIELD quinjet, Tony wouldn't give anyone access to its controls unless he knows it's them. Bruce is strongest avenger, because it's probably an inside joke to fuck with Thor.
