“When a loaf of bread, for instance, is in the oven, cracks appear in it here and there; and these flaws, though not intended in the baking, have a rightness of their own, and sharpen the appetite. Figs, again, at their ripest will also crack open. When olives are on the verge of falling, the very imminence of decay adds its peculiar beauty to the fruit. So, too, the drooping head of a cornstalk, the wrinkling skin when a lion scowls, the drip of foam from a boar’s jaws, and many more such sights, are far from beautiful if looked at by themselves; yet as the consequences of some other process of Nature, they make their own contribution to its charm and attractiveness."

Great people often said that what they created came through they just were in the right state, we know it as the state of flow. If the man can get into that state everything that he will create will be a conversation with God. Since God is multidimensional and timeless so are His creations. Glory to God!

I'm not a literature expert but I remember that in the past, including Roman times, writers or even normal people used to write letters to others or to themselves knowing that they could have been "published" or shared. So, if I'm not wrong, I think he was perfectly aware that someone one day could have read those letters and he was consciously putting effort into them. It doesn't make him less good at writing or something, but I don't know if this idea of Marcus' natural writing is historically accurate

It does not necessarily mean that Greek was not his natural language. The Roman aristocracy mainly used Greek in their mutual conversation. Their children were educated in Greek, and very often they had Greek teachers and nannies. Or at least those who spoke Greek. So it is highly debatable which was his natural language first, Greek or Latin. Probably both.

To be fair he probably would have been taught Greek at a very very young age almost as if it were his native language. Due to most things being conducted in Greek when moving about the empire, because that was the language of commerce for the time. So most Roman aristocrats would have been taught Greek at a very very young age.
