I remember playing teufort casual after reinstalling and I swear I was the luckiest man on earth. I had really good teammates (3 of which had unusuals) and 2 of them had these badges. one had the primeval warrior and the other had grizzled veteran. once it was pointed out in game, everyone stopped fighting and thse OGs gave us tips on how we could improve on our classes and shared stories from when they played in the early days.
Hire Date: Tuesday, September 18, 2007 (13:39:12) GMT I've stuck around with TF2 over the last 16 years, it's been absolutely crazy watching everything unfold, from the servers of the community, and Valve themselves. Amazing game that will never be forgotten & always populated
I’ve seen only two primeval warriors when I asked their story they both had stopped playing the game or at least took an extended break from the game and came back to see the new stuff, kinda sad stuff
@@marlon6598 because there aren’t many original players left, many have left for a reason or another. They are experienced and usually fun players. It’s sad that there are only so many left who play the game.
I saw a Primeval Warrior badge once in Doublecross. He kinda sounded annoyed that our team was mostly new players. Our team lost and he said "Take a close look at the class you're playing. Never play it again."
I’ve seen a Primeval Warrior once. He not only knew every map like the back of his hand but he was able to traverse them blindfolded and facing backwards without dying once. What a legend
They should add new variants if the mercenary that act as upgrades depending on how many hours you have while also bring distinctive enough to make the 2007, 2008 and 2010 badges still special. I have more than 7k hours in TF2 and I wish for a badge that can show it off.
I remember playing a Casual Badwater server and seeing someone with the "Soldier of Fortune" Badge on. I was wondering if that had to do with how long they've been playing TF2 for, and this answered my question. Thanks spikey, really cool 👍
I’m like 90% certain my cousin has a primeval warrior badge… I remember him showing me the game when I was 7 so he may actually have either that or the grizzled veteran… I saw him playing at Christmas in 2007 so I’m guessing if he still has that account he may have the badge
Still have my grizzled veteran badge always on my loadouts. Always love helping new players whenever I go back to TF2 it's fun when people recognize the badge.
Yes, I saw it in a few veteran players plus I saw the medal of the player who played in the beta test in TF2 competitive mode. There is one thing I just wanted to tell you: o Who knows what the players who played on the test day are doing today? History will never do this and will never be forgotten and remembered by the community.
the only person i know with the primevil warrior badge is actually my dad, he preordered the orange box and played a bunch of engineer in 2007-2010 and sometimes plays tf2 with me
I had the veteran badge but i was pretty much a kid at that time and my child-bum thought it was ugly and deleted it with pyroland googles and a ton of classic boxes. Now I am living with the greatest regret of my whole life. I could've turned those boxes into fortune and prove that i am an old player but here I am...
I once saw a Soldier of Fortune in a game of MVM. It was pretty cool because the Engie who was wearing it was with a no cosmetic Heavy, and the pair hadn’t played TF2 in years. Heck they’d dropped the game before taunts were added and the Engie had a Proof of Purchase! They were really nice, I got to teach them a few MVM strats like baiting sentry busters and focussing on Giants while the Pyro’s dealt with the Tanks. I got to show off some of my cosmetics and taunts to them and even explain some of the newer stuff that got added to the game. All in all, they were super chill and friendly, and we all had a great time. I miss them.
The Soldier of Fortune badge time is actually wrong, you were only eligible for it if you played within a year of the games release up to October 9th 2008.
I've seen a couple of Primeval Warriors in game and I always tried to take a picture with them, like literally asking: "Can I take a screenshot with you?" as if they were a celebrity.
I've seen the primeval warrior it was crazy what, it was during Halloween and when everyone noticed that a player on our team had it everyone started freaking out
A friend of mine has the Primeval Warrior and wears it on all of his loadouts (he also has a steam profile badge from the day steam went live). He doesn't play tf2 anymore because he's an old man now lol but it was nice to see it.
it'd be great if they finally marked another date. my badge is like 6-7 years old now, yet im still grouped with ppl who joined the game for the first time today
They should add some more, and give older players the new badges. Because someone who joined in 2011 should not have the same badge as Juan Gonzalez2010 who joined a week ago.
So, kinda inaccurate. They aren’t “upgradable”, they were released all at once during an update in 2010. Some Grizzled Veterans were changed to Primeval Warriors, but that’s only because they added the Primeval Warrior and it was more accurate. They’ve not changed who gets what badge, nor upgraded any since 2010. Second, the dates on the Soldier of Fortune are wrong, the actual window was much narrower, being from around mid-January to October 2008. In other words, the badges were awarded as such: Primeval Warrior: Awarded to those who played the beta within month before release from Mid-September to Early-October 2007. The beta was available to Steam users who pre-purchased the Orange Box Grizzled Veteran: Awarded to those that played within a Year of Release, from Early-October 2007 to Early-January 2008. Soldier of Fortune: Awarded to those that played TF2, who missed the cutoff for Grizzled Veteran, but still played within a year of release. The timing was early-January to Early-October 2008. Mercenary: Autonstically given to any account that played TF2 after Early-October 2008. Every new account has this. It doesn’t matter if you’ve been playing since November 2008, you will still have a mercenary badge.
I have actually seen the Primeval Warrior badge in a Mercenary Park match, just yesterday this player I found had this badge, and was apparently 33 and had been playing the tf2 beta
Grizzled Veteran since Oct 9, 2007! Have spent exactly zero dollars on TF2 since pre-ordering the Orange Box on Steam… I feel like I should get a medal for that too. I was able to add a description tag to mine: ''I've played this game since 2007 and I STILL suck!''
I may not have the platinum badge for joining TF2. But I made it up by getting a platinum dueling badge. Worth every cent and months spent dueling people.
A steam user by the name of ICS has the Primeval Warrior badge. If you guys don’t know who he is, he’s the one that made these 7 following maps: 1. Hellstone 2. Brimstone 3. Erebus 4. Gravestone 5. Terror 6. Chilly 7. Frostcliff
I met a lot of Primeval Warriors in the past, around 2011 to 2012 ish, I could say my friend even has one together with some friends I know. I never really had one bec i started playing on 2011, nowadays I don't even see much people wearing them. Everyone is just dripped out which honestly is preferable to me because back then I rarely saw drip in pubs.
Soldier of fortune was October 9th 2008 cutoff, not October 10th 2010 (Not quite sure where that date came from) Source: wiki, and also I'm from September 13th 2010, and only have mercenary
Yeah I was looking for this comment. I was gonna tell him the info from the wiki if nobody else did. I started playing on my own account on January 1st, 2010 (I previously played on a sibling's account from the start of 2008 because I was broke) and I also only have the mercenary badge.
I actually have a soldier of fortune badge I received mine back on July 19th 2008. It's crazy looking back on tf2 and seeing how things have changed over that time, still love the game just hate how the game is treated by the devs.
I saw one on the new VSH map added in the latest update. It was on a friends server and when i pointed out he had the primeval warrior badge the whole server began to treat him like a god lol.
I wish there’d be new badges given out automatically for when people have been playing TF2 for 10 years, 5 years and 3 years, kinda like the mercenary badge but instead of WHEN you joined, it scales for how long you’ve been playing.
I played TF2 from 2008-2010 on Xbox. I swapped over to PC and bought TF2 October 11th, 2010. I never learned till around 2015 that I missed the mark for Soldier of Fortune by a single day.
i have soldier of fortune (March 2008, I actually played the xbox version around christmas 2007 til my orange box disc got the white ring of death and I switched to pc). I see Primeval Warriors occasionally on uncletopia
I have the Grizzled Veteran badge, but I do not have the skill to back it up. Haven't played for years. (Also the badge isn't upgradable in the sense that you can't modify it ingame, I think the word you're looking for is variant.)
I had a Grizzled Veteran in my backpack from when my father installed the Orange Box in 2007, as well as 2 vintage items. I always thought the Grizzled Veteran was an item that everyone got and wasn't worth much. I was partially correct in that everyone gets it but now knowing that I was "hired" the same year I was born, is a strange thing indeed. I've started in either late 2019 or early 2020. Good to be around.
Honestly I feel like there would be a LOT more if they somehow counted the Orange Box... haha. I played that a ton as a kid when it came out, and only got a PC in like 2015
In my opinion lowest level badge should upgrade with time for example. You play TF2 for two years an dit changes color and etc. Longer you play it gets another color
PSA: Unfortunately, many of the older accounts with Primeval Warrior or Grizzled Veteran are likely stolen. If you see a person with one of the particular badges, but their only items are the badge and the Proof of Purchase, it's likely a stolen account.
my dad has a grizzled veteran on his account (even though most of the account playtime is from me on balloon race or some variant of cp_orange) and I shall pass his orange box down as a family heirloom
i hope they add a new one that gets given to players who played during bot attack times a badge that has a mvm bot face on it with a good ol gray color
