Good tutorial, basic but informative. To make your own panel nowadays with decreasing prices for ready to install panels with free shipping it only comes to custom fit and designs. Maybe something light that you can fold, and again this is widely available. Recently i discovered that you can pancake two panels on top of each other and slide them out underneath so it doubles the solar area if needed. This is especial useful if you install panels on a roof of a van. Motor-driven-mechanism of-course. By making rails at production stage of the panels you minimize the overall size of the panels sliding over each other. Basically you could pancake 2 and even more layers like a telescope. When a storm hits or heavy rainfall is minimizing voltage output you can retract all panels beneath each other and put some DIY tarp around it for protection, how cool is that.

This panel can put out close to 100 watts ru-vid.comUgkxOqI2yqX0XVrhR2BMJciTWrHJpG8FhJyg when positioned in the appropriate southernly direction, tilted to the optimal angle for your latitude/date, and connected to a higher capacity device than a 500. The built in kickstand angle is a fixed at 50 degrees. Up to 20% more power can be output by selecting the actual date and latitude optimal angle.The 500 will only input 3.5A maximum at 18 volts for 63 watts. Some of the excess power from the panel can be fed into a USB battery bank, charged directly from the panel while also charging a 500. This will allow you to harvest as much as 63 + 15 = 78 watts.If this panel is used to charge a larger device, such as the power station, then its full output potential can be realized.

Please do not measure Amperage this way. If you measure anything else this way you are going to short something out. Essentially what he is doing is creating another parallel path for all of the current to travel through with very low resistance. The battery he is measuring has circuitry inside of it that will protect him from that battery exploding, but if you short out the terminals of a battery like that, it can explode. Please look up the correct way to measure amperage with a meter if you are doing anything else besides this project.
@DRCE777
@DRCE777 4 года назад
But isn't he measuring the short circuit current of the cells and not a battery? and correct me if i'm wrong but I don't remember him testing any battery for amperage.

So basically you are admitting that your comment is completely irrelevant to this context, sorry but why did you comment?
@CollinBaillie
@CollinBaillie 2 года назад
@@DRCE777 he did measure the "amps" of the battery in the small tutorial on how to use a multimeter to measure volts and amps. I thought that was a bit risky. However, when measuring solar cells, the short circuit current is pretty safe, save for a but of an arc when you first make the connection.

Excellent video and very thorough. Why do the individual cells need spacing between them?
@AZStarYT
@AZStarYT 2 года назад
It's mostly to allow for expansion of the cells as they heat up from the sun and being in an enclosure. You want to keep them from making electrical contact between them if any contaminants (dust, bugs, mold) get inside the panel - especially water which WILL get in, eventually. Even the moisture in the air when it was made will condense on the inside of the panel if done on a warm, high humidity day followed by a cold night.

The string should produce 4.5v and not 15v that was shown. When is series voltages add up. Individual cell voltage was 0.5 v and he had 9 in series so 9* 0.5 = 4.5v . I am assuming that 15 v value was from all strings connected in series.

Well done which is medium rare today with amateurs making videos like pros. However I have always thought when soldering you are to heat the metal of the bind and the solder to touch the metal to create a tight bind or you get a cold joint connecting which will easily break and fall apart when you heat the solder against the iron itself and let it drip as you show. Since the metal you are soldering to is also solder do you heat the whole connection line to get this type of bind after dripping the first run?
