Yup, I was in a group as a kid we sent BadBoy our demo using a James Brown sample...He brought the group "Total" out one or two months later with the same beat (Can't You See). He didn't even change anything. 🤣 We sat with a local producer (in his basement) for hours looping that beat. I remember when the Total song dropped and the producer said we couldn't do anything because it was a sample from James Brown. We were kids, and it was pretty disheartening. But seeing how things have unfolded over the years and now. THANK GOD!!!
Imagine all the present day grown adults who were once kids sending demos to Puff - and never got a call back but afterwards noticed Bad Boy released a track similar to theirs …… hearing this interview is VINDICATION for them at-the-time kids with dreams ….. imagine being an unknown kid and inspiring global hits …. And never get credit for it ….. insane ….
These mainstream artists and producers always steal ideas from smaller artists & producers. That’s why I don’t take mainstream artists and producers seriously.
🤦🏽♀️This is why you shouldn't send your songs to anyone before copyrighting them. Also never give away your ideas. Learn about trademark and copyright people
Exactly what I said. He thought he was going to leave this world as a great. 20 years from now....he's gonna be look as a Ike Turner, Suge, R Kelly.....nothing can save his ass now.
I sent my demo tapes in to every body in 1995 1996, i was 15, 16 years old. I sampled old rare records, added singing and rap. I sent many tapes in.. And i couldnt believe how i heard people biting my songs and my words...i would tell my homies and they thought i was crazy...but its true. Gene is telling the truth.
Not lying about the fashion…. I was NYC 91-92 working for an independent fashion company….. @the time Cyber suits( shiny tracksuits) were just being shown. We were throwing a run way show in the park in Queens. We had a new up coming designer: Sir Bennie Miles… Puffy took him from us and threw a show the very same day!
I remember a long time ago, I got laid off from a job because the manager didn’t like me. I moved on to a better job and 4 years after they laid me off.....that company shut down and laid everyone off. And I heard stories on how the company screwed the manager over. Botton line. Karma is real believe it or not. It might not happen when you want it to but trust and believe l, Karma awaits and will come like a thief in the night.
Yes, karma is a cold bitch. That happened to my last boss. She had a habit of firing people who didn't kiss her ass. Well, after several people in the department that I worked in, I became the next one on the chopping block. Well, about 3 months later I was in a recovery shelter and one of the people that she had fired came through that day and drop the good news on me about her. Apparently her boss or bosses called her into the office on her vacation ( this was during Thanksgiving). They then told her that she was fired. What a way to go. After all that she did to several employees, she got hers. The union had been building a case against her and apparently they got the smoking gun to get her fired. She didn't even see it coming. To get fired on her vacation and on Thanksgiving. That served her right. And Diddy is gonna get his. Very. Soon. He. Should. Watch. His. Back. And. He. Won't. Even. See. It. Coming!
aye, thats how the business always been. thats why you dont send unsolicited demos and scripts and shit to nobody. ppl still be doing it nowadays even when they tell you they dont accept unsolicited demos. so unless you copyright the stuff first. that way you can actually produce an official record and get paid when someone steals your work
Dude like a lot of these Puffs y'all talking about he's been living the life for like 30yrs. When these "Chickens coming home" again "Brother Malcolm" 🤨🤔🙄
I think one of two things will happen. 1. Puff will end himself 2. The most likely outcome, TPTB will off him and make it seem like he offed himself. If I were Puff, I'd drop every name possible because he knows he's on borrowed time.
isnt it great that aspiring artists dont have to do that ish no more! No they can promote their own music via social media, no more stealing from unknowns well at least not as easy to.
Exactly But Now it's this 🤔 So you mean to tell me that Gene was around him since the college campus incident ???? I'm sure Puff helped to advance this guy's life tremendously And this is the thanks he gets ??? When Gene knew the Whole time what type of person he was working with ????? I suspect that if Gene witnessed all of this and now he's talking, Gene must have already been interrogated and copped a plea
This is completely accurate. My friend sent Diddy some songs that he made and produced, and even though he never got a response from Diddy's team. But then some time later, it was on Day 26's album
The music industry pushes acts in to get hits by any means and this aint just a puffy thing.ask Gene about that big ole check Clive davis gave puffy? Always a hustle
Big Gean a real Brooklyn OG. Why do I say that? Because he is the type of guy these young cats should look up to, not these fake gangsters. He a solid, GOD FEARING & HONORABLE man. Real ones is with you Gene!
God fearing and honorable? Yet he stood by for years and witnessed (in his words) abuse, beatings and rape? Wow, what an honorable God fearing man he is.
My father rip always taught me What you🫳🏾 throw out you will have to catch 🫴🏾 2pac and Biggie eating popcorn 🍿 waiting for the sweet victory Its sad 2 legends lost their lives behind P.diddy #facts 💯🎯💪🏾
Knew these things back in the 90's.. everything in me was knowin i was gonna be famous... but god kept puttin barricades up because my heart aint evil!.. did shows, acted, modeled and when the time came, i threw it away after hearin a few horror stories first hand!! Industry is foul!!
Yep! Same here! A manager begged my family to let me go to Hollywood when I was a teenager but they refused to let me go with him. Now in my 40’s I thank God I never got caught up in that lifestyle.
@@lifewithbreion1392 Absolutely! Had I gone there no doubt in my mind that I wouldn’t be here to this day! Back then I modeled, sang, danced, and and wrote music. Even in my 40’s people still to this day will stop me and tell me how beautiful I am but I live a very quiet and peaceful life. I’m so grateful in hindsight for an ordinary life lol. All that glitters is not gold.
This should be a cautionary tale to all that NO ONE is exempt from karma. It is written in the Holy Bible, Holy Qu’ran and other spiritual books spoken by the prophets💯
“ Rappers be sending me demos and I act like I don’t like it and then two years later you hear your shit on my shit” Eminem actually said this in a interview even though it may have been a joke or not that one line always stuck with me which is why I never would send music to any record labels back in the day.
Exactly, he co-signed by not speaking up much sooner, even though he has law enforcement on his side as well. He could have done the right thing by exposing Diddy years ago and still have made lots of money telling his story 🤷🤦
So Dame Dash saw people making money off of alcohol, he got into the alcohol business and it was “his idea.” But other artists saw Dame do it, they decided to do it for themselves and they “stole it from Dame?” 🤔
I’ve been saying this, been saying this. You can look @ puff’s track record and see that he’s a user. He uses people, and primarily the under privileged. I can already tell that puff don’t have no friends in the industry. And the only reason why some certain people are still working with puff, is because he has some sort of “dirt” on them.
@raywill9149 If you watched previous videos of Gene. Puff knew who to do stuff around but Gene was would check him on it. Do your research this come back!
This clip right here for me sums up everything about diddy. Like he said he’s a chameleon he will take people stuff and act as if it was all him! Whatever the outcome is he deserves it 🤷🏾♀️
Dame was the first on the liquor wave diddy and dame Always had a great competitive spirit diddy same gang dame best out but its the same click and circle
It's sad how some of the most successful black entertainers & entrepreneurs that we look up to for inspiration are all in the midst of some of the biggest downfalls this nation's history has ever seen. From Russell Simmons, to Will Smith, to Kanye West, to P-Diddy, it makes you wonder who's next, Jay-Z?
Actually you need to learn music; it's from the song name Juicy Fruit Song by Mtume; 1983 and he paid for the sample; go educate yourself about old music!🤦🏾♂️
@@GenX7119 this internet clown said educate yourself on old music.....lol it's called classic R&B clown and I'm halfway a hundred and it is impossible for you to educate me on anything music related your new to this boy I'm true this . I just hate internet clowns and keyboard busters I seriously doubt you were even born when Juicy fruit was out. So let me educate you son, the Notorious B.1 had that song a year before biggie even thought about juicy as a matter of fact Biggie stole the name The Notorious B.I.G. he called his self biggie smalls which he had to change because of copyright infringement . Cause what I'm almost 10000% sure you didn't know that because that's a name Jimmy J.J. Walker portrayed in the movie Let's do it again starring Sydney Poitier and Bill Cosby. But you think you said something smart. Go take a bath son andlayyo clown a** down
Mtume is the original version an artist..an rapper Nortorius Bl from the sipp did a Rap to the song..he was tryna get on n the industry an sent a demotape to puffy...puff never responded back to the B1 an stole the song ,swag an style also part of the name of the rapper an called biggie Notorious B.I.G...like Bl tracks is on here go look it up everyone that hears it including myself knows dude was robbed by bad boy or shall I say puff..
To be honest a lot of labels do that or were doing that. Def jam, deathrow, bad boy, cash money, sick wid it. There’s stories of JD and dre taking samples and redoing them. 🤷♂️
when you have a good skill, it is normal that you can go global and your name is recommended to so many people and from what i've heard about Mr. Aaron Cooper, his strategies must be really good.
Gene is speaking facts about industry types stealing shit & acting like its theirs, as there are lot of established/well-known producers, music industry execs, etc. who have stolen beats, lyrics, concepts, & even whole songs from up-and-coming artists who've submitted their music via various means (Soundclick, Soundcloud, GMail, and of course in-person demos are a few examples that immediately come to mind)...and the thieving execs & producers as a result got exposed and/or even sued for doing so. Puffy, Kanye West & Ludacris, Timbaland, Will.I.Am, and Polow Da Don are but a few who've been exposed (and in several cases sued) for the above within the past 20 years or so.
I exactly know what he’s talking about when you’ve watched someone for an along time, get away with doing wrong to others. When the person karma returns to collect, it’s very hard to find sympathy for the person. Although they will try to make you feel bad for not feeling bad, and others who feel bad will do it to you too. You know in your heart the real truth😉.
The problem I have with Gene Deal is that he comes off as someone who though he’s had these opinions about Puffy from the jump, but had he been paid, he’d have remained a loyal soldier. His disgruntledness appears to simply boil down to money. Had he been paid, he’d have overlooked all these Puffy’s character flaws and continued to serve Puffy.
I have no dog in the fight but I always remember Pete Rock (who was probably the biggest hip hop producer at the time, Heavy D's cousin and also from Mt. Vernon where Puffy is from) saying he redid the Mtume song for Juicy cuz he heard Pete Rock doing it in the studio one day. He basically stole the idea for Juicy from Pete Rock and never credited him and PR always felt a way about it.
@@BGambino1215 Man stop. That B1 guy didn’t make that song. He literally took it from that group Mtume who made that song Juicy Fruit in the 1980s. All he did was rap over their beat to their song. That’s it
@@whatwhat9004 yeah and for the record Biggie wasn't the first person to rap over Juicy Fruit. plenty of people had rapped over it. But Puffy got the idea to do it from Pete Rock and that's my point. Pete Rock tells the whole story here... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bnUgNP5VmNU.html
Pete Rock did the beat offered it to Nas first then Biggie jumped Puffy took it and stripped off Pete Rock drums and released it then made Pete’s version the remix. But Teddy Riley sampled juicy in like 88/89 for wrecks and effects
Absolutely 100% that he should get what he deserves. Totally agree. He just thought that he would never get in trouble and keep up his bad boy crap and image. Keep on keeping on Gene!
armadale dame also had something called block savvy which was kinda like web3 type or crypto project in 2005 before blockchain it was similar what they doing now
This is nothing new. The whole industry was doing it, especially Dr Dre . These fools were doing the same thing. Music exec and companies were doing before they came into power this is nothing new. Wish you guys to stop thinking diddy isn't only one doing this type of shit.
