You made this look soooo easy. Im going out tomorrow with friends and finding a good branch to do this. Thanks man!

The key to not letting the wood dry out before you work is To Use wax on the end of each cut , Thats where moisture leaves the wood Fast, So Put any sort of Wax on the top and bottom and seal that stuff in!, Than work fast when you start your chizzeling or it will dry out and crack

@heidebill Hey! that's Great news! I hope your build goes really well!! I have a little advice to throw your way!, If your Set on making one out of a branch thats growing on a tree, there is a chance that the Piece will warp a bit when you split it in half! My didgeridoos in this video were both Branches and they both warped a little bit which made them a little harder to put back together! But If you cut down a Sappling tree that is Straight it won't Warp much or At all! makes it easier!

Ok as an Aussie I feel a need to point out that "real" didgeridoos are made through the process of termites eating out the heart wood of tree limbs and trunks and a great many of the local Aboriginal didge cutters and suppliers work very hard to find and supply quality musical instruments. I've seen these made didges actually fracture under the harmonic resonance produced whilst playing and can only recommend that people buy authentic didges to support these amazing people.

100% agree as an indigenous Australian I'm not sure if I agree with this.

@heidebill Each didgeridoo will be differetn based on Width of the wood and length, So slowly cutting the length off will be the only way to make sure you bring it to a perfect note. Whichever it is Closest to. Use a Tuner , Play the didgeridoo and if it is say a D# bring the length down a Pinch, Keep doing that until you get it perfect!
@heidebill

I built a Didgeridoo, from a piece of Plastic conduit I had laying around, I have the Circular breathing well underway, Hopefully it is not to cold in the next while , I want to head into the bush and cut a branch from one of my trees, and build one. Hope fully have it done for january, Going to Hawaii, to little beach and join the drum circle with my new Didgi bill

@heidebill You would be able to tune a PVC Didgeridoo Very easily, In terms of Wood The best way to tune it would be to. Hollow the wood, Put it back together, Put a mouth peice on.. Play the didgeridoo Find out what key its NEAR, then slowly Cut it down to fine tune it. SO cutting Off length to bring it to the perfect Note. It will be time consuming, but i think it would be the best way to get the Didgeridoo to a perfect Note.

Sounds Great! It isn't like he destroyed a forest looking for a singular branch. The tree provided the raw material to him. The branch was taken with respect as he stated. Are we not also part of nature? I'd say the intent was good.

yes bamboo didges are very simple to make and have an ok sound, but you need to make sure the hollow is the right size inside. you will need to make a mouth piece for it too.

You will have to experiment with the roughness / Width and the Type of wood For for instruments Sound and Tonality, I am Very happy with the back pressure I can Circular breath without any trouble, although I only have the ones Ive built to compare it to. Thanks for the questions !
@danielvallieres555

Good question!!, - Beeswax!! , I called around to different stores and Eventually found, Bees Wax Candles. Next you take a good Size beezwax Chunk and keep it in your pocket on a hot day, or play with it in your hands , What ever you can do to make it slowly soften, When it's soft enough you Mold it to your Didge and let it cool down. make sure it's SEALED. I prefer to make a Small Volcano style mouthpiece, gives Room for nose and Chin, and you can make it really durable.

So I was thinking about recycling Christmas trees after the holidays and making them in to didges. Any thoughts about this? It's still pine; not a limb but a trunk instead... Any way just wondering what you thought. I always feel bad that so many threes just get thrown away you know.
