When we separate the layers of designer napkins, we end up with many plain layers of waste papers. I've sprayed them with alcohol inks to create multicolored papers to craft with, & now, I'll try making die cuts with the uncolored ones. Thanks for your feeding people's creativity!!!
Now I have to go dig through my dies! I pulled down a large cake tote for my grandgirl yesterday and discovered a huge pile of napkins that I had packed into it when I moved! Can’t wait to try this. Thank you!
"Discovering . . . while trying to do something different." Love it. Kind of like the "happy accident" idea. Thinking it would be fun to try embossing napkins, colorizing them, cutting into quilt pieces and placing together. Hmmmm . . . Thanks for sharing your time, talent and inspiration.
I wouldn't think you can cut the pieces AFTER coloring them, but I have stitched squares and circles etc. in my cutting die collection ... Did you ever test your ideas?
This is so awesome! I actually found your channel by watching Jill Foster from Penny Black do the same thing. She referred to your channel as she got the idea here. This is so absolutely cool and I am going to try it today! I don’t have any napkins but I’m going to try a paper towel and see what happens. TFS
This is an amazing technique! I never would have thought of die cutting layers of napkins and then water coloring them would be gorgeous. Just love the adding of a little gold water coloring as accents.
My gosh, Dave, this technique is so cool! Definitely one to use with florals and leaves as it gives such a realistic texture. I for one can't wait to give this a try. Two thumbs up for 'thinking outside of the box'. Thanks Dave!
Dave, this is such a fun and ingenious technique! Yesterday I shared it with my stamp club ladies. They loved it too and couldn’t wait to get home to try this on their own. Thanks for sharing!!!
Gorgeous!! I have held back from entering the realm of die cutting in my crafts (we all draw the line somewhere) but you have me sooo intrigued! I happen to have a bunch of plain napkin "second layers" that I saved from other napkin crafts. This is just, too tempting! Thank you!
I don't know if anyone else has discovered this...I die cut a few tim holtz leaves. After coloring I noticed that a few layers were coming apart along the edges which I guess is normal but I decided to carefully peel off some layers. Not sure how many exactly as they are so thin. I dried them and as I did they curled and turned up and look lovely that way. They look and feel like crisp fall leaves.
Absolutely amazing! I will definitely be trying this technique! And in the process of watching this video, I fell in love with all of your new dies for the holidays! Great video Dave! Thanks!
Very unique idea! Love it! Would it lift off the cardstock after a while though? Would hate to gift someone with a card only to have it eventually separate. Great idea though. I think I will try this but add some spray adhesive in between the layers as well as the way shown in the video to see how both methods turn out before making a batch of cards to send out.
