By far the greatest coloratura of this generation. A true artist, technician who understands and respects the tradition of Bel Canto. Just and all-round astounding artist and wonderful person
I fell in love with this aria after getting my copy of "Art of the Prima Donna"... certainly a smaller voice than joan's, but she sings this so damn well... her lyric coloratura harkens back to the golden age... love your singing, Lisette!
I remember listening to the Met finals the year she sang. It was some of the most beautiful singing I had ever heard. I then listen to this with the effortless, seamless vocal line, and stamina (echoing Verighar re: the phrase at 5:42) and hope she has the biggest career ever so I can listen to everything she ever records. I do so hope to hear her live.
She's about the only singer singing in public now who has a true trill, easy, dependable, endless, and perfect. Just about everyone else fakes their way through.
Amazing. As Usual. I became a follower. She is , by far, the best Soprano of our Times. Just listen : inmediately the old recordings for the greatests ( Callas , Sutherland, Caballé ,Schwarzkopf, Sills , etc, etc...) cames to our ears...Grande Lisette, Brava !!
What a delight to listen to this Aria not in the usual heady coloratura soprano of today. She has the right mix of chest in her middle voice which is rare nowadays. Brava!
I am obsessed with Lisette. It’s almost like you’re listening to one of the greats from the golden era. This is a great example of bel canto singing. I have to hear her live!
Oropesa impresses once again with exquisite singing. Impeccable ornamentation. Fantastic color and breath control. It's a little smoky and I love that. Long may she sing. Hopefully the Metropolitan takes note and puts her on stage in a prominent role in the future.
Thanks for mentioning the "little smoky," that must be the quality I love, that makes Sopranos SO Pleasant to listen to. BTW-- THE TRILLS!! Check out her trills at the end of "Caro Nome" from the MET's wonderful "Rat Pack Rigoletto," set in 1950 Las Vegas, with Tenor Piotr Beczala. It's on RU-vid. Lovin' me some Soprano Lisette Oropesa!!
@Robert Lee, Countertenor I´m a redempted fan of both sopranos. Damrau was the BEST lighting coloratura´s soprano of XXI century. But now, Lisette came, and She broke all the rules. "La Sublime" Oropesa is simply amazing. Many people agreed wth me that She is the New "Divine" . End of the History
Niesamowita, jak zwykle. Kocham jej delikatny sopran.Jest zdecydowanie najlepszą sopranistką naszych czasów. Po prostu posłuchaj: od razu docierają do naszych uszu stare nagrania największych (Callas, Sutherland, Caballé, Schwarzkopf, Sills, itp.) ... Grande Lisette, Brava !!
One thing about Oropesa, even though she's a lyric coloratura, she still has weight to her voice that many don't. Which fortunately keeps her from being considered a "tweety bird". She has much more substance.
Art Danks She reminds me of Anna Moffo in that regard. Like Anna, the little bit of extra weight to her lyric coloratura allows her to sing a more varied repertoire.
Definitely only a superbly trained and wonderfully talented singer can bring this aria off with such effect . I also loved Eleanor Steber and Joan Sutherland . Not too many notes for any of these magnificent singers .
