Interessant, war mal in einer Berliner Kombo, hauptsächlich Jazz-Fusion-Rock-Irgendwas, die sich Die Nerven nannte. Wie sich die Zeiten ändern, coole Jungs ;)
The music is cool, but the singer sounds like he need a slap to make him sing properly. What is it with German singers? They all try to be purposely flat. It seems like hope it will make sound cool. It doesn't.
+Internetpolice666 I agree the music is cool. But: listen to Nina Hagen, she's not flat at all. Or try pornoheft.org/ -> downloads .Perhaps you shouldn't post general statements about "German singers" before you have listened to a bunch of them? Btw., you are arrested.
Nina Hagen wasn't flat that's true. And whilst her early stuff did have some kind of kraut rock novelty, she quickly became irrelevant. I know enough German singers and artists to make such a comment. And sadly it's unequivocally true. It's largely why more almost no German artist sells anything outside of the three German speaking countries. The standard is just very poor.
It's nice to know you know so many German singers, but perhaps you should first do your mathematics? Telling "They all try to be purposely flat" makes it easy for me to give you just one counter-example... and this assertion is proved wrong. Btw., your discussion of Nina Hagen's career is just another topic... totally irrelevant in what you claimed before. I btw. wonder how you explain not many Russian, Nepalse, Kenyan or Turkish singers not being selling internationally. Is it that they are all "flat"? I assume it's mostly about not being prostitute to some kindo average global taste... which makes it more interesting to listen to (4 me).
There seems to be a tendency amongst German singer to adopt a kind of fake Dylan approach to singing. The notes are left to die and the result is lame and it's no doubt a conscious decision to impart some kind of attitude. I don't know a single artist who does that in the US or the UK. Therefore I count it as a symptom of being German. You know like Lederhosen, or permed hair and moustaches back in the 80s. German music is largely sub standard and has no global appeal. Again not my opinion but a fact. Stop bleating on about it and just accept, as with this band, German singers tend to be crap.
