Ahí afuera tiene que haber un jardín gigantesco, para aparcar la nave espacial en la que llegó el pianista, porque te juro que el maestro Jaime Calabuch no es de este mundo. Exquisito comping y un soleo formidable.
I recognized Jerry Gonzalez on the trumpet. Where was this concert? Jerry is a New-Yorican who is the leader (with brother bass player Andy) of th Latin Jazz group Fort Apache Band. Anyway I loved hearing la Cigala. The singing style grips me by the stomach. The band sounded completely familiar with Cuban music so here we have quite a mix: Gitano-Afro-Cuban-Jazz.
Ha, so the inseparable brothers have separated! What's going on with the Latin music scene in New York? I lived there 18 years and the music quality was going down in Salsa, in Jazz and in Latin-jazz. The best Salsa happened under Fania. As for jazz vocalists nobody has come up of the same quality as those who have died. The new generation of female vocalists was really bad in the late 90s and instrumentalists go for technical prowess but play like machines, without any emotion and assault the audience. I'm not up to date with the latest events (I live in Paris) and hope it's better now. Tell Andy the French woman says hello ;-)
Khamomil ,I will tell him that you say hello, this next Saturday I have private upright bass lessons with Andy.Andy is my friend and upright bass instructor and mentor.
