You're definitely one of my favorite RU-vidrs. I don't own a truck and I don't plan on towing anything anytime soon, but I still really enjoy your content. You're doing a great job and I hope you get the recognition you deserve.
My god is there ever not snow on the ground up there ? I’ve been watching the channel about 6 months and I feel like there has been snow on the ground the entire time. LOL
I'm a dodge guy at heart and I would pick the cummins personally for a number of reasons, some being personal. But I'd be crazy saying that Duramax wasn't a nice truck, that's a really sweet Chevy. I'd definitely be happy with either
We got snow twice in the past week, about 3-4 inches the first time and still snowing now probably 4-5 inches. I'm further north than Rural here. SUCKS!
Great video. ‘04 GMC LLY owner here. Agree 100% with you, the Ram wins by styling and that manual transmission. If that was an ‘07 GMC I’d probably change my mind...styling is much better than the slant nose Silverado and I still want to own an LBZ someday.
I think for the cateye that one just looks a little weathered, I had a pretty clean 03 and I told one of my buddy’s it was a 2014 as a joke and he believed me
@@mchuo7834 I’ve seen plenty of dodge rams with over 1 million wit the manual on original bottom end and trans most dmaxs are throw away after the first 300k
Clever quick video to make! Isn't it funny that the Duramax can be the "better" all around truck, but you'll still pick the Cummins? I'd pick the same. I also def agree it's the better looking truck and I would want the manual bad.
Great video. I agree with the aged look of the Chevy compared to the Ram but I find the chevys interior wayyyy better than the rams. That year of chevys seats with cloth I find are so much more comfortable and don’t seem as “cheap” feeling as the rams of that year.
That dodge must have some tall gears. Another great video! I also loved the sound of the Duramax but agree that the dodge looks like a newer truck which I never really noticed till your video.
Can't go wrong with any of these. Personally I like the Ram better for both the styling and of course, the 6 speed manual but the Chevy sounds sweet and the Allison transmission is a safe bet. Also, those Eaton lockers found in GM trucks are very reliable and pretty much unstoppable. I like the sound of the Cummins better and I'm more used to those engines as well since my FIL used to have a 91 Ram 250 4x4 with the 5.9 Cummins/5 spd manual and it was bulletproof. He purchased it brand new and sold it 2 years ago with still plenty of life left (CA truck =no rust)
Doesn't help the looks for the lbz that it has a 2004 1500 hood and grille on it. Hood and grill are slightly more aggressive for a 2006 2500HD than the 1500. The other thing to consider with the duramax in comparison since I own a couple would be the lbz injectors could be getting tired at 240k, leading to a lack of power. It may run fine and drive fine like mine, but till you've driven a low mile lbz to a high mile one with original injectors back to back, it's hard to say their fine. My lbz has 200k and it's doesn't have the power it used to cause the injectors are definitely tired. But other than that I love the Duramax's I have an lb7, had an lly, converted it to and lbz, and I definitely love me my duramax. Driven 6.0 powerstrokes, not that impressed. Driven 5.9 cummins, wasn't terribly impressed with its get up and go. Torque yes, speed no. Duramax to me has the best of both worlds. Got my eyes out for a deal on the new l5p, that's a Power monger, quiet, not as efficient as I'd like, but the capability of the new trucks is insane.
The death wobble is due to lack of maintenance on the front suspension or modified with a lift. Dodge is not the only truck that suffers from the wobble of death. The Cummins can survive being lugged. The Duramax not so much. Actually even the Powerstroke can’t handle it either. From what I have heard it’s because the Cummins is a six and not a V8. V8 diesel requires the cab to be removed to work on it. So I would go with the Dodge. Great video as always and thanks for the update.
Went from Upstate NY (Governor) to Ohio last winter. Passing buffalo and the great lakes when it became whiteout conditions. Scariest thing ever especially in a Rwd Cadillac.
Literally wrong on both! That Chevy style didn’t change until 07.5 that dodge is 3rd gen body 2003 -2009 only change was the front bumper and headlights and emblem location not a body change
The cat eye chevy is the most iconic body style than any other body style of it's era it futuristic enough looking of you put an 03 dodge and an 03 chevy sided by side the 03 chevy looks like the newer truck
It'd be a hard choice between the cummins and Duramax. I own a 02 2nd gen cummins and my buddy owns an 02 chevy duramax, there's stuff about both trucks I like better then the other. Like the ride of the duramax is vastly better then my cummins all day long, and that center console is perfect. But I looked at cost of repair and the cummins was the cheaper of the 2 by a long ways which is why I went cummins. Just don't ever buy a powerjoke, biggest waste of money ever produced.
Cummins is the LS of the hot rod world too. People put variations in just about everything, including Volvos, and Nissans. Although anything can be transplanted, the ease and growing support in the Cummins is definatly the one chasing LS conversions. And, Cummins in different industries has good numbers. I truly miss my 02 w/ 24 valve P pump.
I keep trying to take the Cummins home, but you won't let me. I can get the newer one with a bigger chest, but i want the scrappy one the closes the bar down each night and starts fights in the parking lot.
These are the two best trucks a person can buy, period. For a pre-emissions platform it just doesn’t get any better than ‘06-‘07 for both GM and Dodge. Each has pluses and minuses, the Dodge is a far heavier duty and stronger built truck overall, GM did some funky stuff and working in body shops shows those flaws. A minor fender bender in a GM you’re replacing the radiator and core support and fixing both front fenders because they buckle over the center of the wheel opening, along with a bumper and bumper brackets. Same on a Dodge or Ford, maybe a bumper and grill. That’s it. I’m on the hunt for a clean LBZ Allison that’s not priced insane. The hunt continues.
I’m debating on the two right now for summer, idk to buy the Cummins or Duramax, this videos has helped me see the differences, but still don’t know which to buy
I have two friends that haul one is a 2010 duramax other is 08 cummins 6spd both tow 4 vehicles trailer the duramax is faster but the Cummins has way more torque and Duramax has more issues ive drove them both many times I like both equal I mean I don't own one lol
Got to test them brand new. The chevy is faster. I think the d max sounds cool but nothing like the iconic CUMMINS TURBO DIESEL lol. I agree the chevy might be more comfortable. But all in all the mighty dodge cummins wins. Glad we finally agree haha
Im a Ford guy, both of these trucks are a lot better than the same era Ford. Personally I'd take the chevy, mostly because of looks and the turbo noises
Well can't go wrong with one best dmax 06-07 LBZ fixed lot of issues and no def delete worry about. Either one would sell pretty quick and good profit if sold one. In long run where Dodge shines it hard to beat that Cummins as get 1 million miles out of them if treated right plus you have best transmission a manual. I love my Cummins but i wouldn't mind still own a Chevy Dmax LBZ
How about a Duramax with a manual transmission compared to the Cummins with the manual. How about putting these two trucks up again a Power Struggle (Stroke)
i'd prob prefer the duramax then honestly overall. Ive driven a 7.3 powerstroke and it doesn't really compare to these power wise, and of course the 6.0 and 6.4's i would stay away from. also have driven a 6.7 and it was great but am concerned about long term emission problems
I owned an 04 Silverado with the Duramax. The motor had plenty of power but was horrible to work on. The front end gave me problems when I used the truck as you would use a truck. I happily traded it for a gasser F-250, just to give you an idea of howad at GM I was. Later on encountered the Rams and immediately fell in love. There isn't anything that holds a candle to a Cummins with a manual. I love that handshake and how those trucks handled. I now own a 2020 Ram 3500 with the Aisin and wouldn't trade it for any GM truck. Definitely stay with the Cummins. I loved my Duramax to a point.
And that is why RAM is taking market share. Chevy hit all the numbers: cabilities, comfort, power, but they didn't make you feel as good. They need to shake up the departments at Chevy because RAM is still gaining.
upgrade gears on that dodge (change gear ratios) and you will love that car dude far as I found stock options are 3.42 or 3.73 or 4.10. and since yours is lifted you much likely have 4:10
I'm a duramax/chevy guy through and through but I do love both my cummins just due to fuel mileage and sounds. I suggest tuning the Cummins I did with my 2013 Laramie way better to tow sounds a lot cleaner
How in the world do you still have snow down here in Western Massachusetts we have not had snow in a month crazy. Anyway great video i prefer the chevy.
Looks like the Chevy was wrecked at some point, front fenders don't match the doors and the paint guy didn't even try to blend them so maybe off of another truck.
I like both the trucks but the short boxes would be a deal breaker for me personally I like the look and more bed space with the long boxes I would want a crew cab long box plus they tow a little better with the longer wheel base
My dad had an 04 Ram 2500 Cummins, that was the first year of the 600 ft lbs 5.9. I prefer the 03 to 05 body style. They changed the front end and the interior in 06 and I think they don't look as good. I'm a GM guy, I will never buy a Ford truck, but if I did it would be a 7.3 IDI or Powerstroke. In this video, I'd go with the Cummins because of the 6 speed manual. The Chevy looks better in my honest opinion
In that particular scenario I'd go with the Chevy. The Dodge does look more modern, but personally I don't like the way the front end and hood of a Dodge looks....just don't care for the curvy design of it. Now the newer Rebel and TRX is a different story. :D
