I find it interesting that Dave goes in to explain the dynamics of engine combustion and cams along with spark. Sorting an engine's issues. He does it in a manner that is easy to grasp. Very nicely done.

This is the work ethic I instilled in my shop. Shop Forman at 3 dealerships (over 30-35 yrs). Forman then Service Mgr at last facility. Another indicator of upscale shop that invests in their business is the Hunter Alignment system I caught a glimpse of. Dave's shop is old school values, outstanding employees with his work ethic.

Dave, you are surely the most humble and gentleman personality out there.

Many things can cause that carb pop. Weirdest thing ever was a 74 Olds 442 with 455 and HEI. A loose alternator belt was the cause. Rebuilt that carb 3 times. Checked timing, plugs, everything. My mentor said that the HEI pulled so many amps that the alternator was needed to keep the voltage high enough for proper operation. I was in 2nd year auto shop, and one of the top students, as was my buddy, the Olds owner. Ran into a lot of odd stuff since. Even fixed a jet engine over the phone. Not always simple stuff, starting with basics is crucial.

Battery chargers now are smaller than a 1 liter water bottle and are genius chargers. It’s an enigma they get anything done in that shop with those antique tools.

Dave-you may be interested-the layout of stuff that you refer to, a lot of that (of course being common sense and all) but that comes from the Toyota Manufacturing System and is called, officially "Lean" methodology. It is fascinating the way Toyota pioneered it from a vehicle production sense.

7:50 and rolls out a Schumacher charger. I used to have a 750 watt power inverter from wal-mart of that brand. You can now get them for under 100 bux. I prolly paid a little more, but steal felt like i was stealing it. Damn thing was a champ. Has a wonderful auto-shut off if a short is detected. Even has an audible alarm to let you know when shorting is happening. I'm not a Schumacher sponsor, but it's the Toyota of inverters imo.

Dave drives my dream car and I feel like that's a win.

I’m number 2 in a shop and do the same stuff as you Dave, just getting our machine shop going though, hopefully one day will be as nice as yours ! But anyway, when I’m talking to a customer I just naturally explain everything about how stuff works and what the customers problem is and my friend that owns the shop I work for is always getting on me after we’re alone about why do I go into detail about the engine or whatever problem cause nobody wants to hear all that-to just tell em you got a bad xyz part or whatever and it’s gonna cost x dollars to fix. I think he’s wrong, I think it helps people to wrap their head around the exact problem and what exactly I got to do to fix it and then their gonna be more comfortable forking out $1500 bucks (or whatever it costs) for the repair! You agree?
