I've had a 27 hp. Yanmar diesel for 15 years just normal maintenance no problems, just needed more pep so the 50 hp is great. thanks for the video no music is better than bad music.
I have never seen an engine like this. Twin Crankshafts, two piston pins and two rods per piston ! Wild. I bet old the old saying is still true. If you have to ask what it costs, you can't afford it.

I'm a Car Technician, I've a Few Questions: 1) What does " Car Base Architecture " Mean ? I Know of NO Car with: Dual Crank-Shafts, Con-Rods etc. 2) It says: 3 Cylinder, Then it says inline Twin, WHAT ? ? 3) It Sounds Like It's Mis-Firing at Idle, What's it going to Sound Like at Cruise ? Clang Bang Clang ?
I may be wrong but I would guess the ticking misfiring sound comes from the twin crank, con-rod configuration.... I too am confused about the other questions you made.
In the -70:s my dad work at a company in Sweden, Motorkraft! When they introduce the Yanmar Diesel it was only Volvo Penta on the market, and they talked about spareparts problem, long way from Japan! Motorkraft told the yachtmagazine to come and look when they take spareparts from the store and put together a working motor and started it!
It weighs a bit much like a Yamaha 115hp petrol. Why didn't they choose 3 line in the set when they still weigh this much. I can think of them then with 900cc and inline 3 should be able to get 100hp and weigh under 200kg. But what many people want is 15-30hp for their dinghy. But then it must weigh under 100kg is one thing that is certain. Preferably 75kg. Is this possible?
@@bipedalhominid6815 In case you have a battery or starter related issue. A lot of outboards have a flywheel made to accept a rope (even if it has no recoil rope starter) so you can pull start it in case of a starting system failure.

@@neandermotors9480 Yeah that's what I've heard, and it doesn't get more definitive than from Neander itself! How come you think they mention "car base architecture" in the video though? Just a simple mistake? I've been eyeing this motor for quite some time. It honestly seems like the perfect powerplant for a sailboat, combining outboard ease of access/convenience with the advantages of diesel. Love it!
@@sawmaster6095 at 15 horsepower and if the right weight could be great for sailing. One problem is the fuel filter in diesels as bio-diesel can contain a lot of water content in addition to other contaminants creating a fire hazard.
@@doolittlegeorge It's hard to imagine that diesel isn't far safer than gasoline, given its stability. Sailboats and yachts have been using diesel for forever. 15hp would be good for a small sailboat, I'm talking 50+ footers :)
A 2 stroke 90 and a 4 stroke 90 are not that far off for fuel consumption (because the 2 stroke will have less displacement. The 4 stroke will do better though if it is FI and the 2 stroke is carbed. The Etec 2 strokes are as efficient as a FI 4 stroke. Either 90 will run circles around that 50hp diesel though. Notice they don't mention how much speed is lost compared to a similar sized gas outboard. My 130hp V4 2 stroke outboard does not even weigh 175kg.
why would you want a loud noisy diesel on a small boat? also what small marina has diesel fuel? seems like the only advantage is better fuel economy but your gonna be paying more for gas anyways.
If it was a good idea to have deseil outboard wouldn’t you think they be more advertised an maybe these professional fisherman would already have them on their boats I’m just guessing it’s heavy asf an noisy like most diesels
gasoline outboard concurrent with the similar engine`s weight has similar or bigger torque with twice or triple power and much higher durability while smaller price. This is nice piece of technical engineering, but in practice it`s just toy. Expensive toy.
In this case not really. Because they are just using the extra torque to run a taller gear ratio lower unit and prop with more pitch because the WOT rpm is much lower on the diesel vs a gas outboard. What matters a lot on a boat/motor that size is weight. This diesel outboard weighs 60+kg more than a Yamaha F70 gas outboard. May not sound like much but hanging off the back of a boat it is actually significant.
For the single reason...i wouldn't consider it...mechanics...if you don't have a mechanic that knows this engine...it's going to be a poor investment. Great novelty though.
it be cheaper to buy a 6 cylinder diesel motor, from Any surplus or chop chop in Cavite then just convert it to be installed on your boat. ganyan yung ginawa dati sa Pamboat namin. just enquire about our long range na mangingisda na buma byahheng between Zamboanga and Palawan to chase Big Tunas. they do 27-35 knots top speed or 23 knot cruising speed.
@@johnlowe8418 Yanmar have been making diesel outboards for decades - if you're running them many hours a day, every day, they are an excellent investment. I ran two Yanmar 36hp outboards on a big catamaran for several seasons.
I sow this outboard in Auckland, Volvo spare parts store... What I can say, more than 50.000 New Zealand dollar 50 hp looks ridiculous, the weight... two times that petrol...
Incredibly expensive. You can drive a lot with your gas outboard for the extra price of the diesel outboard. This is always the problem with marine diesel engines.
Yes you can get a lot of petrol for the additional cost, but you will need to for the additional range offered by the diesel. It is also a lot safer to carry 0-40 gallons of diesel, than the same amount of petrol. I had a Yanmar 27 on my catamaran, replacing the yamaha 30 hp that was the original fit. When trying to push against a strong wind, the difference was remarkable, even though I was never really happy with the match of propellor to the engine for that task. I hope they have fitted a decent sized alternator to this version as that was its biggest weak area.
Would have more interesting, if they'd given it a full, range of operations test; on a REAL boat, like a B.W. Montauk '17 for example..rather than some bogus-ass, RUBBER RAFT!
