Diesel renaissance on Southend Pier 

For the first time in the pier’s history, two years after new trains have arrived, an older generation train is still running alongside the new.
This is due to the continuing unreliability and non-availability of the new battery electric pier trains.
Diesel hydraulic loco-hauled train ‘Sir William Heygate’ continues to offer valuable and reliable service, as required, when battery trains are not available.
