A lil update from leh ladakh.. Winter grade diesel is available in leh now. Starts easily.. There are also other options. Check ur glow plugs if u have them in ua vehicle. Also start the engine early in the morning if possible, like at 6 or something. It starts freezing after that time. Safe driving and the lighting fire below the engine is a good idea but needs very careful observation cuz we have seen trucks catch fire too..
You can buy Diesel Fuel Anti Wax Agent Additive in other countries. Might be worth researching to see if such products are available in India. They are usually good to -20 degrees C.

How to start your normal diesel car in -20 C or more easily. 1 : Upgrade glow plug to Bosch Dura term (atleast) hard to find for specific models. Durahigh is best but not available( LIMITED TO BMWs IN INDIA AS TO WHAT I COULD CHECK ON BOODMO). 2 : Use Diesel Anti Gel. 3 : Give a pre heat of atleast 20 seconds each, twice or thrice. After the heater light goes off the heater elements(*glow plugs) stay alive for atleast 10 more seconds depending on temperature. You can check it by attaching a small wire into glow plug socket and putting the car on ignition, the bulb will go off quite later than the heater light. *will post the video soon. 4 : Use 0W engine oil. be it 0w20 or 0w40 . If not possible use 5w. Use can change your normal engine oil once you end your trip. 5 : Get a heater plug bypass done by a good mechanic and by your switch you can pre heat your car for 1 minute or more. Always carry extra glow plugs as they may fuse too with long pre heats. Easy to replace in most cars with right tool even in needed to be done alone with some mechanical knowledge * always pull out glow plug on a heated car, in cold cars its hard to swing and pull. Never crank the engine with an empty glow plug or never pull one out on a running car. If a car is running with a fused glow plug there is no issue apart from starting issue, DPF issue, low mileage and similar workable issues. *There are many small guidelines like anti freeze coolant and more, so they are a must too. I AM WORKING ON GLOW PLUG BYPASS AND ALL, WILL DO MY COMING TRIP SOON. For anyone who have doubts do let me know. All what I have told is not for newbies there are many technical information to take car like the voltage supply of stock glow plug and your new glowplugs.
