Aaah, 4AD...the memories of my youth, when everything was so beautiful and devastating. These guys just made heavenly music. Ivo was a genious, and I loved every track on Lonely is an Eyesore. I remember the artwork on every 4AD album was inspiring too. 4AD...the world of the senses. Dif Juz...masters of their craft. Amazing!!
@@skyreadersociety6183 I think some of the band members had prior stints with jazz music and scuttlebutt around the time the band was still active was that "Dif Juz" itself was just a play on the phrase "different jazz" so it probably explains that lol
A fantastic track. There's a slowness, a melodic quality to the bassline, like a Grandfather telling his Grandkids about a tough time in his life. Then there's the drums, a totally different feel, demanding, engaged, this right here. The guitar, the emotional component to the Grandfather's story. There's clarity, beauty, meaning, and pain. The only way to listen to this is on repeat.
That's an interesting point, it's always kind of reminded me of Rush's "Red Barchetta" in an instrumental way myself, another grandfather-based storyline song.
The sound is very captivating, jazzy and at the same time obscure. The guitars give a broad sense of freedom, of long journey. I'll love Dif Juz. Always.
I just came across this music a few months ago via Pandora. This piece is a singular event. It's awful to think I might have died without hearing it. Stunning inspiration.
Someone introduced me to this music back around 89. Can't remember his name, but I'll never forget this music. It was on the Lonely is an Eyesore video. Was happy to find the CD at Amazon.
oh sweet nostalgia! I remember those days... I was a fan of CT and DCD then a friend of mine introduced me to Pixies and Wolfgang Press and soon we realized that EVERYTHING on that black-and-white 4AD loose leaf is worth digging. This was the way I came to listen to this obscure band named DIF JUZ - just because it was on the list! It striked me, but I seemed to be the only one who appreciated it - in the whole world!(there was no Internet yet) Thank you guys,now I know I'm not the only one!

I wish I had known about Dif Juz in the 80s, but my home town had no real record outleet and most of my friends were metal heads or into trendy music. I found this song on the multi-artist compilation "Lonely as an Eyesore" in the mid-1990s, but I didn't seriously get into Dif Juz in 2004. Great music to accompany a walk or a drive: it heightens the thrill of the exploration factor!
Dif Juz has always been an atypical band, shy, introspective and original. Their music is the essence of something very inspiring and is a real shame that they are out of circulation. "No Motion" is really a great track.
Seems so many people across this small little blue planet of ours finds meaningful joy from this timeless piece of sonic lucidity. I saw this video on 120 minutes a thousand years ago, and have been hooked ( on 4 A.D.) since. IVO hand his thumb on the pulse of a musical revolution at that time, Lonely is an Eyesore was cutting edge, and when Filigree and Shadows was released, it set the sonic trend for my ears for the following decade. This track is a masterpiece.

Eargasmic! Almost anything 4AD is OK by me! These guys sound like what I think Nirvana (the state of enlightenment not the band!) would be like. None of my friends got any of this at the time.
I always feel like listening to their stuff is what being in a drug induced world must feel like. That said your description is better still and spot on. It does "take me" to a different (and better and calmer) place. I wish they'd stayed together and put lots more stuff out there. I wa slucky enough to see them supporting the cocteau twins in Liverpool ... happy days
LONELY IS AN EYESORE... reminds me of so many good times. 4AD was the best independant label. Just try to listen to Cocteau Twins, Dead Can Dance, Throwing Muses... this music will last forever.

@WeHaveExplosive It may happen soon. The This Mortal Coil catalog is being reissued on CD/LP and Blu-Ray in early 2011. All of the TMC videos will be included. Hopefully Lonely Is An Eyesore will be right behind it.
@bookmarkthis I can't verify it, but I think it's true. I'd love to hear more from them. No Motion and The Last Song are easily my favorite Dif Juz tracks. Kind of a shame how they most likely lost touch. I've never seen this song performed live. That'd be amazing.

I'm pretty sure it was used without permission, but if you want to hear "Gunet" by Dif Juz, search RU-vid for "ninja squad final fight" (it starts about halfway through)
