Kimberly (Dana Plato) is getting ready for a night out when it turns out that her hair has gone inexplicably green!
Season 4, Episode 20 'Green Hair' - Aunt Sophia pleads with Drummond to get involved with an effort to address pollution, but Drummond stubbornly refuses. Then, Kimberly's hair turns green after washing it with dirty water.

Kim Fields says Dana Plato actually dyed her hair pink in real life and showed up to work, outraging the producers. I wonder how that fit into the development of this episode. Was this episode inspired by her real life incident? Or was she inspired by this episode, LOL. I'd love to hear the whole story behind this.

I remember this episode - Kimberly washed her hair in a copper sink, and the water reacted badly when she added the dye. Mr Drummond did eventually go to the dinner with Kimberly because it was an environmental matter.

You don’t remember it well though. They caught rainwater in a copper bowl, but the rain was acid rain and caused her hair to turn green when she used the water in the copper bowl for her hair.

I was just about to comment similarly. There are a few BB episodes that seem to have been re-done in DS. Yesterday I saw the DS clip about Willis getting a job which made me think of Peter getting his first job. Then there is the episode of someone pretending to be sick so that a famous person will visit on both BB and DS.

They weren't watching too much Brady Bunch, they created it. The Creator, producer and writer for Different Strokes was also the Producer of The Brady Bunch. And he produced the Brady Bunch episode where Greg's hair turned orange, as well as produced and wrote the story for this episode. The product Kimberly uses in this episode that turns her hair green, is even called "Mother Brady's Natural Shampoo."

@@GalaxyNexus1 That wasn't what turned her hair green. It was the rainwater that was acid rain that they caught in the copper bowl that she used to wash her hair with that product. If she had just used the water from the shower, I think nothing would have happened.

This episode wasn’t funny then or now. They must’ve been REALLY reaching for storylines to come up with this old gag. They did the same bit on the Brady Bunch. The only thing different is they made Greg’s hair orange. Ironically, that was the last episode of the series.
