Hello everyone,
join us as we explore the differences between Cherry Blossoms and Plum Blossoms.
Plum blossoms always go ahead of time as its flowers can be seen sprouting from as early as mid-February up to March. The cherry blossoms on the other hand always occupies the last week of March to early April as its blooming season.
The cherry blossom has a spiky feature at the end of each petal whereas the plum blossoms don’t. As for their buds, the plum blossom has more rounded one while the cherry blossom has an oval-shaped feature. Observing these two differences is the easiest way to identify which is which among the two!
Another simple way to differentiate one from the other is by looking at their barks. Cherry blossom trees has a lighter shade of gray with very obvious horizontal lines around it while the bark of a plum blossom tree are known as darker and has no lines.
Surprisingly, the plum blossoms won on this category as cherry blossoms doesn't offer the same beauty when smelled as compared with the plum blossoms that has a more sweet, flowery fragrance. So don't be fooled! When it smells better then you are most likely infatuated with an plum tree.

Actually both of these flowers are originated in China and found it's way to Japan during the Tang Dynasty. So it's flowers of China instead of Japan

It is the same in relation to the tradition of "Hanami". The tradition of admiring flowers so iconic nowadays in Japan has its origins in Tang China (or even before the Tang) adopted long after by the Heian noble class. Many Japanese traditions mirror their much older Chinese counterparts to some extent. The change of admiring the Cherry instead of the Plum is due to the fact that Japanese aristocracy gradually sought to separate itself from China in search of a more "national" flower (the cherry tree). Still, the plum tree _Ume_ was always considered much more sophisticated and noble than sakura by ancient Japanese.

As a Chinese, I would care less about Cherry Blossom and more about Plum Blossom. In my opinion the Plum Blossom is the real national flower of China, not the peony.

I don't trust you, because you didn't even know that the many varieties of cherry trees blossoms MOST of the year, not just in spring. There's even winter cherry blossoms.
