When I wasn't able to find a CZ82 in Excellent condition, I chose to purchase a CZ83, New In-the box. Great gun, BUT; chambered in the .380 and has the "New" squared off trigger guard! SO! Still looking for my CZ82 !

Great video. I have both and I agree are both great pistols.

You have omitted one important difference Sir. CZ82 has a polygonal boring and so is able to use so called vz82 ammo, which was designed especially for this baby. Vz82 ammo is basically a makarov with a bullet made of pure iron (agglomerated steel sawdust to be exact). Vz82 ammo will damage grooves on regular makarov pistol in less than 10 shots. Not a big thing though since this ammo was manufactured and used only in Czechoslovakia and was never exported. But still worth to be mentioned.

Yes one IS better than the other the CZ much better gun , because of the "refinements". If you can get past the 380 part the 83s a dang fine weapon as well. I own all 3

Dude i live in Czech Republic, and what i described is the reason why our police switched to CZ-75 D after just ten or fifteen years of 82's service. Whats the most treacherous about this flaw is, that it only happens when the pistol falls on the rear, so the pistol shoots straight up. Its possible that the export pistols are somewhat fixed, strong firing pin return spring should greatly reduce the probability of this happening.

Man wish we could still get them for 200-300 dollars. Should of bought a bunch when I had the chance!

Good video! I like the mag ejector on the CZ82 much better. The heel mag eject is good but it takes some time to get use to.

Good comparison. The safety on the vz-82 you are describing at about 5 minutes in is a rebounding hammer safety. It is a reliable system. One isn't better than the otber? I'll take the vz-82 any day over the Makarov, because 13 shots is always better than 9. I got my milsurp vz-82 five years ago for $99 + shipping + tax, not long before Newtown. The price shot way up after that. I had intended to refinish it, but it came in good enough shape that I kept it stock. I was hoping to get another one for the same price to refinish, but prices are just too high.

i got a cz82 on the way...however a nice makarow like that would be great!
@CountArtha
@CountArtha 11 лет назад
What you're describing in the fifth minute is a "rebounding hammer." Basically the sear acts like a firing pin block when the trigger is not being pulled, so the hammer can only go forward and hit the firing pin if the trigger is all the way back.

Is it safe to carry the cz 82 cocked and locked like a 1911?

From what I understand the CZ 82 was taken out of service when the Czech Republic joined NATO and needed to conform to 9mm Luger for handguns.

Most of the Bulgarian stuff in the US is actually re-branded Russian stuff Bulgaria received arsenal machinery around the time the AK-74 got updated to the AK-74M, but before that most of the stuff was relabeled unmarked or marked Russian equipment. For example, a lot of the early Bakelite Circle-10 magazines (sunken label) is actually unmarked Russian magazines that had the raised label filed down and then re-stamped. If the magazine has a raided Circle-10 magazine, its 100% genuine.

My vz 82 is a surplus pistol made in 85. The return spring is pretty strong on mine, and the hammer is unable to strike the FP without the trigger being squeezed, maybe its a flaw with the "late" vz 82 and i understand some minor changes did occur. Also playing devils advocate, you don't think the switching to a full 9mm, during the early 90s wasn't a move to more closely align with the west at the fall of the soviet union? I own a cz 75b so i understand the switch from a weapon standpoint.

Makarov is better for CCing, being lighter and thinner. I like both personally. Looking at getting a CZ, but if the LGS runs out, they got plenty of Bullmaks.

The mechanism why, these (and almost all) blow-back pistols might fire when drop is connected with slide movement. If these guns drop on beaver tail, whole slide moves a bit back, so slide hits hammer and if there is chambered round with weak primer, it might fire. Especially if the firing pin spring is weak. Thats all. Any other drops are quite safe, you only have to hit the back on beaver-tail hard enough.. like 1.5m on concrete. There is no 100% fix for this. What czechs did was, that slightly shorter firing pin was used in army-serviced pistols (they have "U" mark punched above first digit of serial number on barrel) + tougher primer was used on Sellier-Bellot/Vlašim ammo. I like my vz. 82.. and the hard-chromed polygonal rifled barrel is MUCH easier to clean compared to standard grooves. And this gun REMAINS in service of czech army even in NATO. Of course many new CZ pistols (CZ-75, Phantom, Duty) + few glocks are being fielded for expeditionary troops on missions.. but vz.82 is still used in great numbers. Also slovakian army and even some slovakian police units still use them. Only czech police replaced them with CZ-75 BD Compact (9x19 Lug) btw. 9x18 ammo is perfect deffensive load. It does not over-penetrate like Luger and that round tumbles more in body creating good amount of shock. Well.. just type "makarov kills" in search and see real effectivity on human body.. that is what counts and that is the reason, why this ammo and PM Makarov pistols are still being used not only by russian army. Problem emerges only if opposition is equipped with body armor, which is the reason why russian special forces now use 9x19 7N21 +p+ ammo with hard steel core or even 9x21 AP ammo.. + bonus - you can fire 9x19 Luger in this gun (and in FEG and few others 9x18) one by one inserted manually into chamber. It can be used in emergency when no other ammo is available and you desperately need firearm. Accuracy is way worse, it kicks harder, but it will hit and probably kill human sized targed at up to 15m with enough energy.

the cz 82 has a hammer block safety that prevents the hammer from contacting the firing pin unless the trigger has been fully depressed. if you were to drop it to where the slide came slightly out of battery it still wouldn't contact the firing pin due to the angle of the hammer in relation to the firing pin. if it were capable of being fired like this then it also would be capable of being fired out of battery. as for the makarov, its problem stems from a lack of firing pin spring. if anything causes the firing pin to come forward with enough inertia it could potentially fire. a couple examples of this could be dropping it on the muzzle, or slam firing from the slide going into battery.
@xmeda
@xmeda 9 лет назад
+A BROUHAHA Hammer block has nothing to do with this problem of vz.82. Try it yourself. Get vz 82, leave hammer on the block and then pull the slide against hammer + hold the hammer on place like it will be blocked by ground when it drops. It will touch the firing pin. If this happens while gun is falling on the beaver tail, whole slide goes back, firing pin hits the stuck hammer and gets forvard momentum. The momentum might be enough to overcome the firing pin spring, it then protrudes into chamber and might hit the round, which is still held by extractor pin and gun might fire. It is unlikely to happen easily, but it CAN happen when gun drops on beaver tail on the right angle. It is one of main reasons, why this gun was removed from service in czech police after few fatal accidents and replaced by CZ-75BD Compact with firing pin block. Of course if operator is stupid and drops his weapon frequently, he might rather not carry round in chamber or use different gun and problem will be solved. Btw. there is no CZ82 :) "Pistole vzor 82"is military model of later produced commercial CZ83. It is only called Pi. vz. 82.

xmeda Question: I wonder why the Russians developed new 9mm rounds to defeat body armor, when they could have used the Tokarev round that they still had stockpiled?

from what ive read the "slide release" on the mak isnt suppose to be a slide release, just a slide stop
@mikethebassguy
@mikethebassguy 12 лет назад
Unless your finger is on the trigger on the 82 its not going to go off, the hammer cannot strike the firing pin, and unless you got springs missing the firing pin cannot touch the bullet until struck... I carry mine regularly and fully understand the weapon... Just don't see it hapening

Miller, 82 is dangerous - it was discarded by czech police, because it does fire when dropped on the rear. There is automatic drop safety, but its disabled by slide's short movement when pistol falls on the rear. Feels better than Makarov, but it isnt.

The Czech's never really listened to the Russian communist bloc. Their AK might not look as pretty, but it to is a better more advance version. The Bulgarians, they make a very good copy, like Russia wants. I worked with Russians to, their just narcissistic like that. The can sure talk a good game. But don't worry, you can kick their ass, even if you got a Stoner rifle.
@BigSmartArmed
@BigSmartArmed 6 лет назад
Narcissists that talk a good game? You've just describe Americans as a matter of fact. Statistically American students score poorly on academics but always score number one in self confidence. They are tough to feel number one regardless of how they actually perform. The reason Russians require manufacturing tolerance to be kept to set standards is for continuity of logistics. I've just repaired my Bulgy Makarov with Soviet PM parts, that's why Russians stick to procedures.
