Japanese is a beautiful, historically rich language. At the same time, I express gratitude at the fact that referring to myself in written English requires one stroke of the pen with significantly little context dependence and effectively universal recognition across all regions of English.
Yea, imagine learning many words just to use a first-person singular pronoun. That would be a horrible learning experience, especially if you are learning it as a second language.
I suppose it falls to old muggins here to present the counterargument. The present writer can think of a few expressions that can take the place of the first-person singular personal pronoun. You can thank yours truly for them later.

Well stuffs like this are getting simpler in Chinese now (not really…) 我 俺 咱 吾 斯 余 侬 俄 阮 朕 （well only emperors used this lol) 洒家 我哋 人家 偶 and a bunch of other Honorifics based on context, such occupation, in historical amd modern usage in literature/pop culture and and variations in regional linguistic varieties.
If you type on a Japanese keyboard zi or ji they both become じ. The same goes for syo and sho etc. It can be confusing if you don't know hiragana and the sounds it makes so if you want to spare yourself this unnecessary confusion I advise you to just learn hiragana
tip: if you’re going to speak japanese, download a japanese keyboard! use a romaji one, unless you know hiragana. japanese people don’t actually use romaji, it’s kinda just the way they show foreigners how to pronounce words
@@Im-BAD-at-satire Those are actually very tricky. “Self” isn’t really used by itself, and “oneself” is an indefinite reflexive, not first person singular. That’s “myself”
@@danielantony1882 There are many ways of romanizing japanese, Hepburn (the one that would use a "J" there) is just one of them, and its not that popular among Japanese people. The romanization system Takumi-sensei uses is called kunreishiki, and it's way more popular with natives. One of the reasons may be that a "J" is a hard sound for most non-Japanese speakers, whereas in Japanese it's actually a soft sound. Thus the 'zi' transcript is more natural to some people that care about proper pronounciation. That being said, as long as Hepburn is still the 'official' way to romanize Japanese, we cannot ignore the existence of other systems. I always thought that washi, atashi, atai, etc are just colloquial or childish pronunciations of watashi/watakushi and thus aren't actually the same word. Why not add actual different words, like Boku, ware, etc?
