Finally someone makes a video on it so it can ACTUALLY be put to the public and more people will see it! This will help people to debunk the switch theory about Titanic and Olympic so they can see all the differences and determine whether or not its Titanic or Olympic. Thank you for making this!
No it won't. Switchers are not interested in facts or evidence. They do, however, tend to get very upset when their ignorant beliefs are demonstrated to be nonsensical.
@@darkvsp It is simple enough. The people who make the switcher videos use invention rather than facts to justify their ludicrous claims. Many people who view those videos tend to swallow them whole, and tend to get annoyed when those of use who actually know something about the subject point out how wrong they really are.
@@anemeth9281 Really? Olympic was in Belfast for six days in March, having a blade on one of her propellers replaced. Perhaps you might explain how these changes were made so quickly, and how 'THEY' managed to carry them out without anyone from the workforce noticing, or anyone from the office and administration staff raising the odd eyebrow? You can then explain why no-one ever mentioned the dastardly deed after the sinking, why Harland & Wolff would agree to it, and why White Star would indulge in such an act, which would do massive harm to their reputation, as well as losing them £500,000. Alternatively, you might consider viewing something other than silly switcher videos, perhaps?
Some 'nitpicky' changes i would like to add . 1. Olympic's wheelhouse wall was curved while Titanic's was (and still in the wreck) straight. I believe Olympic's was straightened in 1913 or 1920s refit. 2. The electric cranes of poop deck had side facing (sea facing) doors in Titanic while Olympic had it forward facing. 3. The bulkhead that seperated the D Deck 1st class reception room and dining saloon had 3 wide , edge curved rectangular shaped windows in Titanic. Olympic had 5 arched relatively thin windows with the center one slightly big. 4. The Marconi wireless room was on Port side in Olympic while it was situated amidships in Titanic to add sea facing 1st class cabin on boat deck. Therefore Titanic's wireless room had skylight. This was modified in Olympic in 1913 refits. 5. The porthole arrangement in poop deck was also of different pattern in Titanic and Olympic. 6. The C Deck porthole arrangements were also different for Titanic and Olympic. Titanic's C deck had an arrangement of small and large portholes and here the pattern was like 2 large portholes had 2 small portholes between them. That is, 1 large porthole, 2 small portholes and then again a large porthole. For Olympic, it was 1 small porthole. Its a bit confusing to read but you'll get the difference from observing it. So basically, Titanic had 1 small additional porthole in that pattern because Titanic had more private bathrooms compared to Olympic and that small porthole represented a bathroom. This 1 big, 2 small, again 1 big porthole pattern is visible on the 'Big Piece'exhibit in Las Vegas. 7. The boat Deck machinery arrangement is different on both ships. 8. The pattern of pipes along the funnels are different in both ships. 9. On the forecastle Deck, Titanic had a skylight aft to the breakwater bulwark and a round shaped cowl vent forward to the bulwark on Port side. This was added to give more lighting and air to crew galley. Olympic originally only had a square shaped cowl vent on Port side of forecastle Deck aft to the bulwark. The round cowl vent and skylight along with the existing square vent was added in Olympic during 1913 refits. 9. If I remember correctly, the hull platings around the forward anchors were welded for Titanic and riveted in Olympic. Not sure about this though, so take it as a grain of salt. 10. The docking bridge in poop deck was flushed with the hull in Olympic and extended in Titanic. This was later modified in Olympic during the refits. 11. Due to a different center propeller fitting, Titanic's wing propeller pitch was increased. 12. The D deck gangway doors of Titanic had two small rectangular shaped windows while Olympic had a single large porthole. These are all I could remember, will add more later if I can.
Draft and spray apparently were a bit of a problem on Olympic's A Deck promenade in choppy seas, in spite of being located over 50 feet above the water. Not only was the forward half of the A Deck enclosed on the sides, but at the very front as well, presumably to keep the wind out. An ocean liner going well over 20 knots creates quite a breeze on deck, even in a dead calm. It's likely that Olympic was never retrofitted that way because the post-Titanic lifeboat clutter on the Boat Deck interfered with the view of the sea and thus it was decided to leave at least the view from the A Deck promenade open and unobstructed. The extension of the bridge wing cabs by 2 feet may not sound like much, but it was primarily to gunsight down and rearward along the hull, and two feet will make a huge difference there vs. the flush wing cabs of the initial design. One really odd quirk of the Olympic Class layout was that 2nd Class passengers could look down onto the 1st Class passengers, since 2nd Class had the aft end of the boat deck.
I’d really like to see a movie focusing on the ships that were around the RMS Titanic when it was sinking. I know the the RMS Carpathia was the only ship to rescue the Titanic’s survivors since it was closest ship to respond and arrived at its location hours before any other ship, but there were other ships that picked up its distress call and tried to dash to its rescue too including the RMS Olympic. The Olympic was about 505 miles away from the Titanic when it picked up its distress call and made a real mad dash to try to help them, but of course, it was too far away to get there in time and by the time it got to be about 110 miles from the Titanic, it got turned down by the RMS Carpathia who informed them that all of its lifeboats had been accounted for and thus continuing its journey to the Titanic’s sinking location would gain them nothing. The Olympic’s crew still offered to carry the survivors, but the Carpathia’s crew declined because they were afraid that a ship looking near-identical to the Titanic would give the survivors great anxiety. The Olympic then resumed its journey to Southampton and had all of its concerts cancelled as a mark of respect toward its sunken sister.
Very informative, thank you. Bit of constructive feedback... your presentation and voice over would be even better if you slowed down a bit. I had to pause and rewind so many times as it felt very rushed.
I have discoverd you recently ans musst say an exlent video about olympic. I love the olympic and I would had loved to have a chance to travell on her. I am very intersted how Olympic change from her start. I have heard that some changes of titanic have been made on olympic, but i don´t now in which extence? Great video, please don`t stop!
The modification to the bridge wings on Titanic must have made a difference as Olympic was later given the same modification. The only major modification that Olympic never got was the enclosed A Deck promenade. Always wonder if that was to keep her clearly visually distinct from Titanic.
If sea spray was such a problem, surely they would have enclosed the promenade on the Olympic after trials and feedback!! Not leave it open and only enclose the Titanic and Brittanic!!
Olympic's B deck promenade was removed during her post-Titanic refit which commenced in October, 1912. Olympic's B Deck was refitted with extra cabins and public rooms, this necessitated deleting her B-Deck promenades - one of the few features that separated her from her sister ship. With these changes, Olympic's gross tonnage rose to 46,359 tons, 31 tons more than Titanic's.
Hey! I have to say that you seem to be on point on all of the things you are saying. This coming from a former sailer that worked on a ship with a sistership that was improved when she came into sercvice two year after the first ship. I also have to say that i really enjoy you saying that you dont have any proof, but its your speculation. This makes this video very enjoyable :) Been watching you videoes for a while and as a musician i would recommend that you buy a better mic. If not, i will still watch your videos :) Ruben Simonsen Norway
Is very known on the actual Titanics design that promenade was enclosed due to the extremely cold winds that makes Olympics promenade very hard to use so in titanic that part was modified months before her first and only voyage…. It was a very widely documented change
4:30 That 2 feet really do much because with that you can have a much better view towards the side of the ship to see whelther you have enough clearance and so on.
the Bell locations are also different on the Forward masts (not the crows nest), Titanic's was in the front, Olympic's was the back side, and Britannic's was on the Starboard side.
Also an other change is that on olympic ‘s maiden voyage the wheelhouse was round on titanic it was square and an other change is the wall dividing the reception room on d deck and the first class dining room has more arches on olympic then titanic titanic used wider arches
Good video. I do have a problem though. At times like 4:38, the test seems too skinny to be read with the font, so it is much harder to see what it is saying. But in all, very good video. Keep up the good work!
Yea I just thought it would look cooler with a border. Although I don’t plan on doing so again with this text option. If I do though, I’ll make to text bigger and bolder
@@theshipenthusiast how come we dont know how the ship broke in two but when they made a night to remember no v break happened you do realuze people tryed keeping the power on when the ship started sinking iys sad those people died im sadden and heartbroken smith died on the titanic and was upset about the people in the lifeboats didnt return to the ship to get more passsagers how come those idiots told the people not to row back when the captain was telling them to do so why were those assholes mean towards others who told we go back and get ore people but lots officers like boxhall told them no im sorry i dont understand why those assholes didnt return to the ship when the captain told them to return then the people who lived told differnt story decades later boxhall is one of them
In walter Lords book A Night to Remember, he mentioned that the ships name was not placed in the bow because it was considered bad luck. And the only time you now see the name was after the sinking and photographers added the name in the film frames to distinguish the Titanic for the Olulmpic for future historians. I'm beginning to believe it because in many photos there is no name visable and when they are visable they are never in the exact same position. The only name on the ships appeared on the fan tail. RMS TITANIC LIVERPOOL. or Olympic on the Olympic. I read the book 13 times and remember it distinctly but there seems to be some doubt about its accuracy these days. I had two letters from Walter Lord in the 1960's but never bothered to ask him about the name placement. Please try and find what version is accurate. Thank you.
Certainly on Titanic it's 'engraved' into the hull plating itself. It isn't bolted on and doesn't stick out in any way. If you look for pictures of Titanic's name on her wreck you can still see that the lettering is sunk into the plating at the bow.
A really good informative video, great work. At 8:54, we see Olympic in the floating dry dock. Very famous pic. This shows her with the extended bridge wing. When was this work done?
So any credence then to the insurance theory that, due to the bent keel after Olympic's collision with HMS Drake, that H&W & WSL quickly switched the names around just before Titanic's 6 hours of sea trials and it was actually the Olympic (re-named Titanic) which sank and the new Titanic was renamed Olympic and sailed on until the 1930s?
Olympics keel didnt bent. How could it be? There is independent verification of the extent of the damage. Firstly, Harry Roscoe a consulting naval architect with over 25 years experience of surveying damage to large steamers, surveyed the Olympic at Southampton. Roscoe acknowledged the following description by Examination in chief Mr. Laing as correct: "There is a large triangular hole extending from immediately above the D deck to above 15 feet below that deck...a large penetration in D deck extending inwards about 8 feet...hole below deck pierced by the Hawke’s ram...in position below the larger hole in deck D... broken and indented plating extend over these decks D, E, F, and G...the penetration cease between G, and the orlop deck" Roscoe makes no mention of any damage to the keel, with penetration only 6 to 8 feet. To reach the keel the Hawke would need to penetrate forty-five feet in, and thirty feet below where Hawke hit the Olympic. And how should the names switched 6 hours before the sea trials, when the Olympic was in Southampton at the time?
They would’ve had to switch a lot more than just their names to disguise them as each other. The Titanic and Olympic were not 100% identical and were only ever together for a maximum of 44 days which definitely isn’t enough time to change two large ships to perfectly disguise them as each other. There were also always people witnessing and investigating the Titanic and Olympic construction work as it was being done so if they even tried to disguise them as each other, there’s no way they could’ve gotten away with it without getting caught. Thus if they were switched, everyone would’ve found out about it back in 1912 when the disaster happened and it would’ve been in every newspaper ever written about the disaster.
Well I made a mistake. I said it was 3 weeks long but in reality it was a year and 3 weeks long. I looked at the month is began and ended but not the year it ended. The war I’m talking about is the Italo-Turkish War.
I find one thing odd. But you said Titanic's A deck was partially closed while Olympics A deck was open. Then how come in this footage ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-05o7sOAjtXE.html at the :58 mark you can see the ship is named Titanic, but the entire A deck is opened? I guess you can say it was added later, but why wasn't it done in the shipping yard in Belfast? I'm not a believer in the ship switch theory. Just trying to tell the ships apart.
At first Titanic being 1000 tons larger than Olympic but after Olympics 1913 refit Olympic surpassed Titanic by 30 tons and so Olympic became the larger ship
great info about the central propeller difference, i didn't know that. so "that which is referred to as" - i'll use that as a ship prefix - olympic had titanic's prop configuration, after twirta titanic sank. very interesting. then it went "back".
Part 1 is short But its a very good video Wait 2hy do have low on subs But i make animation i allready have 148 subs Why is that? U shoud like had 1k or 2k But u are 200 low
@@Dizzy19. Although i dont believe in the switch theory, the inconsistency of the portholes always confused me. Photographs of Titanic in Southampton show 16 portholes, but in the movie, real time sinking animations, and other photos, there are 14.
@@Boileryard The port hole thing is easy to explain. Both ships were launched with 14 on the port bow. Both had two added later for extra light in the crew washrooms. Titanic during her fitting out and Olympic during a re-fit in 1912.
