At 9mins into your video , you show a blue wasp (I think) on a white flower , what is that ? Also I live in the uk , in Scotland and we have Bumble Bees 🐝, coming in and out of a small opening in our wall that’s for ventilation , we see them going in and out and we just leave them alone but do you know if they do any structural damage? It doesn’t bother me that there there at all , I quite like watching them navigate back to the tiny opening , great footage in this video too ✌️🐝🌺, do you think you could do a video on the Huntsman spider ?xx
It is a Cuckoo wasp. Beautiful isn't it? I am thinking you might have carpenter bees. They do damage by hollowing out semi large cavities in the wood for their young. Bumblebbes usually build their homes close to the ground or in wood piles, etc. Carpenter bees aren't all bad, but they upset some people for the bit of damage they cause. As far as huntsman spiders...I only make videos on things I am lucky enough to come across in my local. Huntsman are farther south. When I can travel more, things will change.
Oh wow! 1/20,000 types of bees make honey, who knew? That's awesome! I like how sweat bees look there a nice color and a tiny size but they can be annoying but anyways the video was great I had no idea about how 1/20,000 bees make honey.

That's something I have been planning to do for some time. What a difference there has been over the years. It's really unfortunate and crazy to see how many have simply disappeared over the past 20 or 30 years. I feel that this year has a LOT less than even last year. I thought there would be more this year due to how many things changed during quarantine, etc. But nope.
Bees are so cute and i used to hate wasps but after this video i have more appreciation for them. Also i hate spiders so i can thank the wasps for eating them🐝🐝

That's awesome, thank you! I can't think of a lot but don't wear body fragrances, fabric softeners or anything scented. It smells like fruit or nectar to many insects. The scent of food or sweet things might also entice them. For the most part, I wouldn't worry a whole lot, unless there are a lot of them buzzing around. If that's the case, just move 15 feet away and you should be fine. They just want to work and find food and nectar, etc.
@@chrisegnoto Thanks Chris, we noticed they stopped coming around with the hotter days now and also maybe becauses I sprayed vinegar and water with dish soap around our table and work area and the door. We Look forward to more videos.
I like them a lot. I don't mind being stung. When I was a little kid, my older brothers friends tried to put me in a dryer machine. I was so scared I bit one of them - lol.
Bumble's are often furrier and smaller than carpenters and they build their home close to the ground or in debris piles. They often have orange or even stripes, also. Carpenter bees are larger and often less hairy.
Nature Now! - Chris Egnoto, I afraid the bumblebees I've seen have actually been Carpenters. It's aweful the damage being done to our bees. I use to beekeeping with my mom so I am very protective of them when someone threaten them. I've been in Colorado for near 10 yrs and have Never even seen a bumblebee! Or a Carpenter. Honey bees are actually not endangered whatsoever. Their global population has reached all time highs in the past few years and is not threatened at all. The bees that ARE endangered include native and often solitary bees like bumble bees, not at all honey bees.

Great video Chris! The world of bees and wasps is truly fascinating, if you ever get the chance to come to South America you'd love the all the strange species flying around, the hymenoptera biodiversity is extremely high and there are some that look like they're aliens, jajaja. I'm actually working on a video about warrior wasps right now, and this helped me out quite a lot, thanks!

Thank you so much! Yeah and in my experience, although on the smaller side, they are the ones that give me the worst reaction. The pain is tolerable, but the swelling and joint pain the next two days seems to be something I only get from them. Go figure.

Lol, thanks, Steve! There is still more I want to say. As far as the macro shots, I often have to kind of trick the camera. Or....a lot of my footage actually ends up rejected because it's out of focus. As you know, it isn't always easy filming. Especially wildlife!
I love ants, bees and wasps and I am so happy to finally find a video that does not talk about wasps as pests. I have a lot of flowers on my balcony that attract bees and wasps. I actually befriended a wasp couple of weeks ago and it comes to visit me daily. I feel very blessed that I can observe it so closely and I am impressed by how intelligent and cute it can be. Thanks for this great video, it makes me happy to see and read from other people that love and respect these amazing creatures.
I found few flies that have colours of a bee. At first I thought it's a bee from a distance while it was standing still . But when I came close it started to move fast like a fly. I watched a video of someone saying they developed a mimicry . Is it possible that I found one of those? Is that mimic possible? Btw great videos,keep it up!!
Wasps are great and all but i find it really annoying when i save their life and they sting me >.< I saw one on its back and decided to flip it over because it looked like it couldnt get up and as soon as it got up and flew around it stung me. Then later i saved one from drowning in a swimming pool and it stung me. I just have bad luck with those guys.
well thanks for taking one for the team. I am with you on that. Weather I get stung or not, I will lend a helping hand. I don't get stung for it, though. Sometimes when they are on the brink of death, they might sting.
Have you ever been stung what about velvet ant you have vid parasitic wasps are very interesting I didn't knew you had caterpillar hunters what you think of pesticides and the effect on them we had such issue in my country.
Yeah, pesticides are a real problem here, too. Same with herbicides and new laws are being passed to allow more. I have never been stung by a velvet ant. But I have been stung by a few different types of wasp. Most aren't that bad, really.
Not in my opinion. They may smell pheromones from each other, including a somewhat of an "attack" pheromone if one is killed or something. At least I heard bees do.
I feel they are super important. Without them, many people would go hungry. Many plants would decline and so much wildlife would decline also. It would change our world.
Why thank you. I never seem to get them that angry. I used to fear them more, but Now, I just act like they are uninterested. Unless, they are displaying warning postures....
Yeah man, the sting tells a lot. It seems each species is often quite unique. My last sting was that yellow jacket from last fall. It was SO itchy for days after. I am glad my subs went up. They are slowing down again, but I REALLY hope I can keep them coming!
These videos are so important. So many people do not know the difference. I sometimes wonder if over time we got used to saying "bees" as a universal term because it was easier than saying wasps or hornets. 🤔?
I agree with you. I really hope that by having this series, people see that wasps and bees aren't that bad but are very crucial to the future of our planet.

Hi. That is a cuckoo wasp. I live in Pennsylvania and have seen them throughout the eastern side of the state. I am sure they are wide spread but I barely ever see them.
Once again..Great job Chris. I found one of those spider killer wasp's nest. I didn't think it was in use any more so I started taking it apart. It had a whole bunch of little chambers with spiders inside that weren't completely dead! Like zombie spiders. I guess they were saving those for later. Kinda' creepy but interesting at the same time. I wondered if they were sedated by the wasps toxins like a morphine effect. Hope so. Thanks again.
@@chrisegnoto I found your video 'Wasp hunts spiders'. Great shot of those wasps. As it turns out- their venom contains antibacterial, cytolytic, and Na+ and K+ channel blockers specific to the nervous system but not the heart. So it causes paralysis while the heart keeps beating as their cells are slowly turned to mush. The K+ channel blockers actual enhance pain so I don't imagine the spider, if he's concious at all, is enjoying any of it. One of nature's great pay backs.
I understand, but honestly, I RARELY ever get stung, and I am around them all the time. Often, the scariest looking ones aren't even that bad if they do sting. I don't encourage that, though lol. People who are allergic have a completely good reason, though.
Great video! I'm allergic to stinging insects ESPECIALLY bees & wasps. First & last time I was 3 yrs old, I'm 56, & woke up in the hospital. My grandmama was leaning over my bed & the ceiling lights formed a halo around her face. I don't recall anything & now stay alert & keep an EpiPen on me at all times. My neighbour wants me to remove a wasp nest in my garden because once in a while she has a wasp inside her home. People don't understand we have to share this world and animals are bothered by us wayyyy more. Ughh I will just let them be . I never get mosquito's anymore btw and my indoor plants get pollinated which is very cool too :-)
American hornets are scary I have stumbled one time with European and they tend to return to you which is kind of scary what species of paper wasps and mud daubers you have spider waspa I know tarantula hawk you have one tarantula related species the spruce fir moss spider do they have spider hunter?

Yes and bumblebees do the most pollinating actually. I plan to do a video on that some day. Here is a cool fact: It takes about 556 worker bees to gather 1 pound of honey from about 2 million flowers.

I've handled wasps and bees in the past and never once been stung. Sometimes it can't be helped but you are correct in saying they are still only attacking as last resorts @@chrisegnoto
I really love your videos. I find these creatures very interesting and fascinating, but I’d much rather just watch from the safety of my screen, since I’m really afraid of the insects.

I remember being a kid, we were standing on a small embankment in the woods talking for a good long while before my friend asked if I could hear buzzing, that is when I noticed that I was literally straddling a very active ground nest full of wasps, interestingly it wasn't until we noticed and ran that they actually bothered about us at all, I think their aggression is very overstated, if someone was trying to hit you or destroy your home or invade your country, you knowsthat you'd fight back too! We only hate wasps because they are so like us, except that the young secrete nutrients for the adults, opposite how we are set up.
I couldn't agree more. Cool story, btw. It seems that when someone does get stung, they often feel it is for no reason, but if it happens in front of me (not often), I usually find the cause, and it's never just for no reason. Most of the time, they don't even care if I am very close to their nests.
