For those who don't know, Tusunamis in the ocean aren't all that distiguishable from the typical surges of the ocean. When it gets close to shore is when problems start.
The term Tsunami is indeed incorrect, given that the term literally means "harborwave". What this is refering to, are rough waves, or Kaventsmann. They are so little understood, that they were pretty much considered myths till the 90s, until satalite imagery could confirm their existence. If you want to learn more, I would recommend looking into the destruction of the Ocean ranger oil platform.
I have a kid in my class that has a deep low voice and he sings this song any time there’s tension in the classroom. It’s hilarious to see the Geography teacher’s reaction everytime! She looks so scared.😂
Happened to me in the Navy while serving on a cruiser. Ship jumped a wave during a storm and the bow submerged, but the way the ship was designed it rose right back to the surface Pumps needed to be restarted but that was the extent of it
@@dark-shadow1076 No way u got a bf that can join the navy bruh 😂😂 ur profile tells u ur 12 yo max 😂😂😂 And don't sweat about stuff like this. Navy personnel spend more time on shore duty than at sea
@christiansibley9462 wasnt called unsinkable either, was called as unsikable as could be made but for the press thats not good enough as "unsinkable ship sinks" sounds better then the other thing
For you all thinking that the titanic is actually that weak it’s not, I’ve played floating sandbox before and I can hardly get the bow under before the ship breaks in 2
@@Bonnie_pirate9536 and of course, the two have a little sister that's still in limbo regarding her construction, unless they finished and/or canceled it
@@brendanboomhour7606 well, here 3 Sister ship and how now 1. Olympic: this ship is never sank and did ram the Germany U-103 and scrapped in 1935 2. Titanic: this ship is sank because iceberg and a fire in boiler room 3. Britannic: this ship is sank during war because hit mine
Words can't express how grateful I am to the engineers who designed modern ships. I was on a carnival cruise about 10 years ago and snuck outside to the front of the ship because I was an ignorant highschooler and the crew did a sloppy job of blocking it off due to the bad weather while we were sailing through a really bad storm around 2am. I'll never forget the stomach dropping feeling I had when I looked out and saw nothing but the vast darkness and massive waves hammering the front of the ship. They were about half the size of the first wave. My little group went back inside after one of the waves caused the ship to go partially airborne and knocked us to the ground. That was some scary shit. It's a miracle none of us got thrown overboard
I believe the correct term here would be encountering a rouge wave, Tsunamis travel subsurface for miles and then begin to rise up the closer to shore they get.
