Aloha Class, this is drill #2, what we do following our slow basics. In this video we are covering, fa'arapu, ta'iri, varu, otamu, afata and tiare. Sorry about the formatting, got figure out how to work my iphone. Aloha!
You do an awesome job! I'm just learning tahitian so I find your video to be very helpful. Thanks for sharing your talent. I hope to be good as you....someday! :-D
Amazing control! Loved it, never tried half box with a rounded side on half...so trying! Doing this every night for a work out. Love it...thighs are on fire!
@Gille87 Hey Gil! Yeah, it's the same, fa'atere and tiare. It's where you grew up learning. It's the same thing as when people call a fa'arapu an ami. That's why when people want clarification on "verbage" I tell them to check with their kumu because that would be their "correct." :)
Hi there, i've been hsving a hard time with the Ta'iri Tamau and Varu. I have a hard time doing the figure 8 cleanly. You do a great job on it and keeping it flat, can you show us how to do it while walking? It would HELP ME SOOO MUCH! I will improve if you could give me some tips. Thank you and Aloha!
I live in San Diego, CA and Im taking a hula class at the recreation center here and your videos are great for me to do warm ups and practices at home. Im not that great yet but Im hoping to get better. My hips need to break in. Thank you so much. Can you please make more videos like this?
Lol love how ur pareo matches the curtain;-) U know that colour is trendy this year, so ur very fashionable:-P Btw what move is the tiare? Is it the seduction movement where u stick ur leg out on ur tip toe and push ur hip in a large half circle? Confusing how many call the steps different names. Even in Tahiti. I know that step as fa'atere;-)
Can somebody explain me how to do the square? I know that in bellydancing hip square is like clock ticking but this one seems very sharp, her hips seem to bounce when she does it. Or is it just my imagination?
TatianaOnegina2 Doesn't matter which way u go, either front right, back, left front, or opposite way, u can also do it towards the back, or in a triangle. Go to my channel, I have uploaded a ripped video w Sonia and Moena showing the similarities between steps done in Ori and Belly Dance, it may help u to understand :D
you need to think that you are in a box attraped and you need to broke that hitting the box with your moves If I dont speak good english is because I m learning ...
Basically what you do is... you hit to the front then the right then the back then left. It sounds simple but it can be hard to do. I learned that love when I was 9 and I was very confused at first
Aloha, I was wondering what you call that move between 1:06-1:13 It looks like a small double bump leading into the box move. I have not seen that done before and was wondering if that had a name. Mahalo
You are really rude I watch this video all the time for a nice warm up and she did do a good job and your right it isn't that hard to move your hips ( if you have them) but at the same time this is a Sacred dance and this dance has history behind it and just like any other dance it has a certain TECHINQUE that you have to use to get your hips to flow a CERTAIN WAY. So it may look easy from camera but if you actually got up and did it , it would probably be very hard for you to do that.
she's doing slow basics, and it's very difficult to get the dances right especially since most people who are beginners don't alternate their knees correctly for each dance.
***** what was stupid about it? Obviously you dont have a good eye for it. I saw several different dance moves..Its all in the legs and hips. the first move was the Tamau-straight forward side to side hula motion (which she uses in between every other move like lets say chorus in between verses in a song) 2nd move was the Valu or figure 8. 3rd move was the Ami or hip circle, 4th move was Afata or the Box, 5th move was Tamau half beat (sorry dont know the name of that, next came the Hip roll and lastly was the Fa'arapu or Ami sped up! so dont kno what your talking about. your suppose to be watching her hips not her hands, And im not even Tahitian, Im born and bred New Zealand maori and i feel yr comment was highly offensive
Selina Nahu Nah not offensive, just stupid. People who don't know how a dance is done down to all the different steps, for them it looks all the same. they think it is only shaking or the butt, when we who do this dance know it is more than shaking ur behind. But what is funny tho is that few realizes that Ori i basically only 2 steps, basically just a cirle, or u hit ur hips in one direction, front, side or back. the rest is just variations of those two. Like Ami, is more proper within Hula, since Ami is done slow. In Ori, it is better to just say Fa'arapu regardless of speed. Like the Ope, is also a Fa'arapu - Circle, actual meaning; stir in a pot...
