Great question! That's something I overlooked for sure. "Cloud hosting" is a bit of a broad term and some companies use it more correctly than others. For smaller companies like Hostinger or WP Engine, "cloud hosting" can mean souped up, managed shared hosting with great support and a high end management panel. But true cloud hosting would be platforms like Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure, Digital Ocean, etc. While they do offer VPS and dedicated servers, they also offer heavily modular services such as "storage buckets" (basically the hard drive of a server), a la carte IP addresses for advanced networking systems, access to AI and ML algorithms, and much more. It's become a popular backend for apps and custom software solutions, but it's mostly overkill if you are hosting a few websites. I'm pinning this comment for anyone else wondering what cloud hosting is :)
@@Craylor I came across Hostinger Cloud, which can be upgraded according to scale needs. Lite speed tech, with manual location selection for best audience reach, cloud hosting which is using the top available technology on pair with Site ground for half the price and for over 4 year deal period at 11 dollars a month, or depending on sale and coupons even lover price. Which is unbeatable deal. According to performance tests scores exact same 1.7 to 2.1 second load time to Siteground loading exact same wordpress optimised page. Have you come across this ? Highly recommend it for people that have basic IT skills and time to play around, getting much more for your money. Places like Siteground are great for customer support, but with all the videos on youtube is hardly needed for someone who has basic understanding. Their H panel is competitive to others. And all it requires is manual installation of two plugins for image optimisation and lazy load. Who ever wants to save money and get top tier speed. Speed and uptime is what we are the two crucial components for Google ranging. Most hosting providers take you on an initial cheap price deal, but cant even offer it for 3 year period. Then put you on 20 dollar plans on upgrade, as well exclude VAT prices. So for same 4 year period end up paying 720 with Site ground, after initial 12 months current deal. Dont fall for things that you can learn and should understand with hosting. Trusting all into a provider who does not have the best tech speed and your needs to scale or your saving at heart. Siteground says one thing then by the end of break down process you realise how much more you are paying for initially transparnet price. Why wasting more when unnecessary. Catch yourself a discount and find a coupon code to get additional 10% discount on top of 60 - 70% discount over 4 years.
hey man, i just wanted to thank you for this great video. it's the best video on hosting i've come across (i went through many!) and i keep coming back to it because the explanation is brilliant. i like your neutral take on the topic. a lot of other youtubers keep pushing their affiliates. i get they need to earn their bread but i wish they'd be more honest - like you! since watching this whilst i was working on my website last year, this information came in handy multiple times including in my uni coursework (not an IT-related major). for my website, i had a super hard time figuring out hosting as I wanted shift away from blogspot. i took your advice and started with a shared hosting plan. now, i'm thinking maybe i should shift again to improve the site speed so i'm back here for a recap and thought i'd leave you a comment letting you know how useful this video has been.
Wow THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO! Now I have more insite on what exactly I am spending my money on! Budgets are very important and when you know the pros and cons on what type of hosting you purchase, you know what you might want to give up for what you really need. Thanks again Craylor. I also watch a few of your other videos. Very good content.
@@Craylor I got an office 365 basic business account and I added 2 domains and I added several emails as shared emails ... unti now averything works perfectly for each email
hello I have a general question about VPS. Once management receives your logins, we set up a VPS system where our team logs in and views your account. Is this what a VPS is used for? Is there any way to give partial access to an employee to a website using a VPS or any other tools?
Thank you for these informative videos. I was hoping you could help answer a question for me. I'm trying to look for an up and coming graphic designer and I don't know where to go to find someone one who is wanting to build their profile while quoting me a decent price? Any ideas about a site or place I can find this person?
I'd check Fiverr or Upwork. You have to be careful and find a balance of someone with decent reviews who isn't too expensive, but if you look for a middle of the road profile on there, I bet you'll find something decent.

i host my web in VPS quite a long period, recently get into mobile app development and freeze up all website, do I need to migrate to Dedicated Server in this context? or just get a beefier VPS. Do most VPS block api service or remote SQL due to traffic?
hello brother how you doing i hope you all fine and happy i have issue i can access to my website from home ip if i change adress ip it doesn't open i have plesk webhosting in virtualmachin (i mean if i share my web site into my friends the site can't open) i don't know does this hostinf is local host or internet hosting
I ask for information, they told me that hosting a service such as a video game server, and making it public to everyone with a domain, but hosted on a VPS, it said that it could not be done as it is not a non-dedicated server. I wonder, can a product hosted on a VPS be made public instead of a dedicated server?
Absolutely. You can do anything on a VPS that you can do on a dedicated server. I'm not sure what the context is behind what you're dealing with, but it should be possible with a VPS.
6:22 i really would like to know, WHY you wouldn't recommend hosting emails on a VPS Server ??! . If anyone have any idea, i appreciate your opinions .
I never recommend hosting email on your shared hosting/VPS/dedicated server because of the burden of IP address reputation. I've done the self hosted email thing before via cPanel on a VPS, and I was always having issues with my server IP getting blacklisted. You have a target on your back for hackers trying to hack into your server and send spam mail, and if they are successful, you get the short end of the stick and your web host may terminate your service. This is why I prefer sticking to dedicated email hosting like Namecheap Private Email or Google Workspace.
CAN YOU PLEASE DO A REVIEW ON SCALAHOSTING. THEY HAVE MANAGED CLOUD VPS PLANS STARTING AT $9. IT INCLUDES 50 GB SSD, 1 CPU CORE, AND 2 GB OF RAM. IT ALSO HAS AN SPANEL WHM CONTROL PANEL(pretty much exactly to cPanel WHM panel). THEY ALSO HAVE GREAT SUPPORT. Not only that, they also offer DigitalOcean servers and AWS servers (only cost $25 with the same specs above) all with their SPanel.
Wow, that's crazy cheap! I haven't heard of them, but I wonder if they're reselling OVH. Companies usually are if they are able to offer hosting that cheap.
I have 2 websites and they are both on Digital Ocean (separate accounts). For one of my websites, everything works smooth and no issues. For my other website, last 2 days it constantly crashes and getting database errors. I have no idea whats going on, but thinking of migrating to shared hosting for that 1 website. With shared hosting, you dont have to do a lot of the tinkering and can get support. For vps like digital ocean, its all you to fix it
Yes, that's managed vs. unmanaged web hosting. Unmanaged VPS hosting is a headache - that's why I like Cloudways. Shared hosting is convenient to not have to deal with the headaches of unmanaged hosting, but when I dumped my AWS server and went to shared hosting, I ultimately ended up frustrated with the reliability and experience.
ALL the hosting's are the same the difference is that the more you want to exceed the specs for your business the more you buy a big hosting Take the example of a car all the cars are the same they all are for driving the difference is that how much cc engine it has how much horse power it has and is it diesel or a petrol engine etc same is the case with hosting server If I'm wrong then correct me
You're correct! There are obviously technical differences with how each type of web hosting functions, but the principal is exactly right. Shared hosting is the lowest power, VPS is next, and dedicated server is highest. Within each category, there are different variations of power and features.
Generally, I do not like the concept of paying extra for a security service from a hosting company (like how Bluehost offers it monthly). Instead, I like to secure the actual site hosted on their platform. For WordPress, I recommend WordFence. If we're talking in the context of hosts taking basic steps to protect your website, such as offer two-factor authentication to get into the management panel, you can usually find them listed here: twofactorauth.org/
Hello Sir. I am building a social network site for my industry if work. I need a hosting that can handle about 150 thousand members in the future and still be fast and still have plug ins that work fast. I was thinking about a VPS but can you give me more advice on which one is good and would a VSP be good enough for those numbers of members. Thank you.
Hey Roland! I'll be honest with you, if you're truly needing a hosting solution that scalable, you would want to use a cloud platform like Amazon AWS or Google Cloud Platform. You will likely need to use dedicated servers with load balancers, and it would be such a complex setup you'd need someone on your team just to manage it full time. But let's bring it down to earth a bit... as your social network site is developed and starts to grow, you will naturally be able to bring in help where you can expand your hosting to fit your needs. If you're working with a developer, I would speak to them about what works best, but I would start building out your system to work with AWS, Google Cloud Platform, etc. and utilize their modular hosting model that will grow with you.
Namecheap's EasyWP Supersonic package is the top plan in their EasyWP managed hosting offering. As far as the Supersonic package compared to Starter and Turbo, it simply offers more processing power and RAM. How does EasyWP compare to other managed WordPress hosting like WP Engine and Flywheel? It's not great. Performance wise it's fine, and it's SUPER easy to setup, but it misses the three most important things for managed WordPress hosting: automatic backups, staging environments, and quality support. If you use Namecheap for web hosting, I recommend the Stellar Plus shared hosting plan even for WordPress. This at least offers automatic daily backups. If you don't need backups or a staging environment, then EasyWP might be worth a shot since it is so easy to setup.
Yes. It may not necessarily be easy, but it is 100% possible. For example, if you're using WordPress and you go from a shared Dreamhost plan to a managed VPS platform like Cloudways, they offer a free migration plugin for WordPress to make it very easy to transfer. If you're going to an unmanaged VPS (wouldn't recommend it) from AWS or equivalent, it's a lengthy process to copy the files and database via FTP.
Thanks for responding to all my inquiries. You're awesome. I have another dumb question. I was gonna make a domain for slickpandaclothing.com but I see 'panda clothing' is trademarked so will it cause problems for me?
What I'm interested in learning is how shared hosting , vps hosting, dedicated server hosting different from Digital Ocean Heroku AWS When would you choose one over the other?
Very good question! I definitely overlooked explaining cloud hosting in this video. I recommend checking my reply to the pinned comment. If you are tech savvy and need expandability, a platform like AWS or Digital Ocean is best, no doubt. I personally have a VPS through VULTR on Cloudways. I used Digital Ocean for a while and switched to VULTR recently just to try their high frequency servers. I’ve had a great experience with both!
@@Craylor thanks for the prompt response! Okay so it scales better and can perform better if you've got the technical skills for it, but in terms of use cases If you were just interested in serving up your HTML CSS JS site / wordpress type of site, is there any real benefit to splurging on digital ocean / Heroku / aws options??? I'd love to hear more from you! :) I guess it's just that ..there's so many options out there today
@@jourdango2615 I'd say the only benefit to using a cloud host for a basic WordPress type site would be reliability. Sometimes with shared hosting or smaller VPS hosts, you'll have minor downtime moments or glitches. In my experience at AWS, Digital Ocean, and VULTR, that doesn't happen. Obviously, nothing is perfect, but you'll experience much higher reliability. The downside is that customer service is basically non-existent on cloud platforms. They will of course help you if there's something wrong on their side, but if you are just not sure how to do something in the realm of server administration, you're on your own.
