George was 25, Paul was 26, and John & Ringo were both 28 when this was filmed. The Beatles would be no more by the end of the year. Just phenomenal what they accomplished in such a short time at such a young age.
George and Ringo had no egos when it came to their playing. They never wanted to show off but only ever played what was perfect for the song. I think it’s partly why their playing is so underrated. Hell, Paul’s bass playing too.
George stopped playing guitar for a year or so to focus on the sitar. But for three years, from 1969 to 1971, he was one of the most musical guitar players/songwriters in all of rock. Watch him construct his rhythm part on the video of John recording "Oh My Love". Great song, but George's guitar elevates it to the heavens.
@@abcxyz53 Uh, the "Let It Be" guitar solo (album version)? "Something" probably has to be the best Beatles guitar solo ever (unless you count Eric Clapton on "While my Guitar ..." John barely manages to play the very simple "Get Back" solo, and messed it up a few times. Paul played a more aggressive rock and roll style, which suited certain songs (e.g. Helter Skelter, Taxman), But George was the best guitarist in the band. By far.
You can believe that of course.he was no Clapton and had to play the others tunes. After the last gig his place in the studio was fragile but as we know he wrote arguably the most impressive songs in the late period.@abcxyz53
What really impressed me with the roof top concert was how John really came alive in his performances - during the rehearsals he kidded around a lot but then put it into overdrive, put the peddle to the metal so to speak when it came game time
Thats what hes DOING i thought it was a camera at first then i realized it wasn't and COULDN'T figure out what he was DOING john didn't remember the words? Im 65 never ever saw that before
This composition wasn’t just 6 years after I Wanna Hold Your Hand. It was light years beyond. The evolution of the songwriting in such a short time blows my mind.
I would say they started out as more of a punk rock band, rockin out on stage all night on drugs etc, then boy band (ish), then pop, then rock. But they were always a rock band
I love the way John looks at paul when he dose the high parts he's got a big smile it's like this is like when they first started out and the memories are still there.
@@mattyoz0 take a look at their US concerts. Paul was funny and very likeable and a superstar, look at their interviews from that time too, completely different person. This guy on the roof is someone else.
@malachy9400 there's no way you're serious. So they found an identical person with the same skull structure that has one eye socket lower than the other and that can sing and play left-handed guitar as well as piano and write unlimited songs. Sounds totally possible. 🤣
The Beatles are a life long friend. We grew up together, felt the joys and pain. Not always on my mind as I grow older and more distant, but all it takes is a song when up or down, and we’re once again in support, right along side and right back where it began. When that feeling transcends everything else and can at a moment snap you back in, there is more in that feeling than life in of itself. Lifelong friends to the end.
Wow! what strong words. And very poetic too. With your permission I will save them in a file. One of the most impressive "confessions" of a Beatles fan that I've read
This is actually one of my favorite Beatles songs. The bass line is one of the best, the harmonies between John and Paul coming from years of singing with each other, George's "brief but spectacular" solo and Ringo solid bottom combine to make this a gem. They were obviously enjoying playing live. Let It Be is probably my favorite Beatles album.
It's just fucking marvellous. I'm a fan of many bands and musicians all over the world but I think I must conclude that the beatles will always be dearest to my heart.
@@ian2armannduccio Here's my take on the Beatles: I think their music will stand the test of time just as some of the music of Bach, Beethoven and other classical music composers has stood that test. I think that one hundred years from now, the music of the Beatles will still be listened to. I hesitate to name a particular song, but some of their stuff is timeless.
can you imagine, being a Beatles fan and walking down the street.... only to hears music coming from above... sounds like the Beatles but I've never heard the songs before... now listening for first time.... wonder whats going through the minds of those watching from roof tops nearby....
I had the pleasure this past April, going with a fellow Beatle fan friend, seeing the street and building where they performed. Was magical as I imagined being there that day.
Well, not the Beatles , but I was 17 and staying with my older brother in Marin County in 1974. One evening while walking around Sausilito, I heard Clapton music coming out of a small hole in the wall and peeked in to get a look. Nobody cared to ID me. It was him, playing impromptu with some locals. Early Un-Plugged jam. He was my Idol at the time, so I was feeling pretty pumped. Saw him perform at the Cow Palace a week later.
For all the talent in the Beatles, and especially Paul's genius playing of the bass, when it comes down to brass tacks, my favorite Beatles songs must have John on lead vocals. Dig A Pony never had any radio play except on the college low power stations. This can easily rank as their greatest song, or at least in the top five. John's voice is hauntingly beautiful, as he so often is. I also think he wrote most of the lyrics to Dig A Pony. That is always a source of debate with followers of the Beatles. Was it John, Paul, or both who wrote the lyrics and the chord line? In my uneducated opinion, this one is all John. Shout out to Ringo for steady rhythm and George for his very creative lead guitar. We will never see the likes of these four again.
Please understand, The Beatles are 1 of my 2 favorite bands. I fell in love with their music in 63-64. And no, The Beach Boys aren’t my no.2., but I sure love a lot of what they did.
All of us (I’m 73) who grew up with them all feel we have our own special relationship with them that doesn’t really exist in reality but in our hearts and minds.
Must be different camera angles used in this video compared to other ones we’ve seen cuz I never saw that orange haired dude before whilst watching this - either that or it the Mandela effect. Ha!
And it's really special why you consider this: They wrote the majority of these tunes, arranged and whipped them together for a performance in just a few weeks! Amazing...😮
What a fantastic group. For some reason I got teary-eyed listening. These guys just loved playing live together. So much joy in their performance. John's rhythm guitar is so distinctive. Amazing tone.
As a Beatles fan for almost 40 years now, this is so refreshing. It's timeless. Btw, been loving the Fab Four since I first Obladi-Oblada 35 years ago.
Mind blowing! Forced to the roof but at their most potent. This is History but so delicate. This was a pivotal point. Killing the past. Really sad in a way
Simplesmente perfeito !!! O conhecimento musical que eles tinham pra época é incrível, os beatles se tornou uma energia inexplicável capaz de atravessar gerações
Simply stated - I love this song and especially those wonderful Guitar Runs. Beatles harmonies are amazing. Loved George's leads on his new Tele that he really did not like, as usual - perfect.
Fantastic performance by a band that hadn't played live for years. Just incredibly good. I know the footage is all cut together but it seemed to me that both Paul and John were looking for eye contact with each other but missing each other at certain times. If anyone else thought the same I'd really appreciate your remarks about this.
Yeah. Quick little subtle glances, partly making sure they're on the same page, performance-wise, but more so looking at their friend they've been through thick and thin with, and all the emotions and baggage that come with being with someone for so long. Like, this is the last hurrah. The documentary perfomance of "She Came In Through the Bathroom Window" is my favorite for this very reason. It has that same "trying to catch their eye" thing that you mentioned.
You're wrong. They had been practising non stop for 2 months. It's from the let it be sessions where they were meant to do a live TV show. The roof concert would replace that. As for it being cut together you couldn't be more wrong. These boys were geniuses brought together by years of playing together. Go watch the documentary and you'll see.
@@marksaunders4142 I know they had been practicing/rehearsing, but practicing/rehearsing is *not* the same as a live performance. During the rooftop concert there were something like nine different cameras filming from different angles, and this footage most certainly *is* comprised of multiple cuts from those different angles.
@@favouritemoon4133 no its not. There are no cuts in the rooftop performance. You can watch the whole thing from the roof one song after the other. 3 cameras on roof . 2 on street. 1 on opposite roof. I hidden in reception. Have you even watched the documentary get back? Stop talking bs
@@marksaunders4142 Do you even know what a ‘cut’ means? I just means switching between different shots that have been filmed by separate cameras. And clearly anyone with eyes can see the rooftop concert film cuts between multiple shots: close, medium, wide, extreme wide, etc.
I was walking past Savile Row today and can't help but look up at the roof. Although it's owned by someone else, it still gives me a buzz to think they played their last gig there.
Love whoever said "thank you brothers" at the very end. That was one of my favourite details on the let it be version, so that confirms that those two performances are the same.
Amazingly captivating! After years of being studio creatures, the boys put to rest any doubt they could still bring it live......and under very challenging conditions (freezing ass!) Love this.
I had this entire rooftop performance on a vhs tape about 30 years ago, what i found funniest was the peoples reactions down on the sidewalk .. one old guy said "There're bloody bonkers" 😂 😅
I was 9 when I first saw them and there was no other band I loved after seeing them. They were so young, but I didn’t realize that until I was much older after watching Wings and Paul.
Son los mejores ❤ esté álbum es mi favorito, el maestro George Harrison dando catedra de ser uno de los mejores guitarristas del rock 👏 absolutamente una obra maestra todas las canciones de este album 👍
It's amazing the little details I notice after having played electric guitar for 55 years. Like the Beatles guitar cords just plugged directly into the instruments and hanging untethered. You learn early on to thread the cord between the guitar body and the lower strap to take tension off the plug and the cord.
Love Lennon's songs and he was a great vocalist. I love all of the Beatles, they needed each other to work as the Beatles. Nobody could take 1 of their places. I know Jimmy Nichol stood in for Ringo for some concerts in Australia but when you hear them all talk about how each member was so important to the band you just know John, Paul, George and Ringo were made for each other.✌️
