Check out the Turquoise in this dig! You can literally see it oozing out of the rocks, and watch me pick up hand full after hand full of the stuff right out of the ground. As I dig away, the video cuts to just some of what I recovered in this rockhound prospecting trip to southern New Mexico, and I show before and after tumbling (no large pieces were harmed by the tumbler - just small stuff). Turquoise was/is a sacred stone all over the world, from the Egyptians to the Puebloans here in the southwest and even to the Aztecs, who traded for it up here, far to the north of their ancient empire. Gold may have been a curiosity or reserved for certain rituals, but Turquoise was the real treasure of the ancient world. I know of several legendary lost Turquoise mines in my area, and I plan to get after them - sooner and faster if I ever get to quit my day job!

Orogrande, NM. Private claim with permission. Small mountain range with many private claims. Other areas in S. NM I am aware of are Hachita and the Burro Mountains. The main Hachita claim is having a ton of work done, so probably not able to collect there (unless you get permission). There may be outlying prospects to poke at. Not sure about the Burros, never hunted this mineral there, just Silver and Fluorite.

I am not sure. This is in New Mexico. I think there's a lot more Turquoise in Nevada, so I'd try that area first in a google search. This video was on a private claim with permission. Arizona also has some Turquoise, but I just don't know where any pay to dig places are. Good luck!

Hi Sierra. I live closer to Santa Fe right now. Work has been crazy thus no new expeditions or videos lately. My email is in the "About" Section. Have you read all the Treasurenet stuff on these topics yet? Lots there, and that's where the maps, etc. I put in vids mostly come from.

ditch the music

I'll keep that in mind for future videos. Some people like music, tho, so may be hard to please everyone. Thanks for watching.

@@lostadamsgold Keep the music. IMHO, it adds to the ambiance of the video. People who don't like it can turn the volume off.

@@WilliamHearnTOEFL_Tutor Thanks. Hard to please everyone, I guess. I do appreciate all (respectful) opinions, however, so speak up people and I will do my best to strike a balance.

@@lostadamsgold Thank you for the hard work and putting out the expense of making these videos. I have my own YT channel and know how much work goes into them. Also, my 13 yr old daughter has taken an interest in rockhounding, so I know how much expense, and danger, goes into reaching the areas you are filming. If I may suggest, some videos showing the difference between raw and worked stones would really be helpful. Thanks again!!
