Keep at it Tim, bet the health and safety crowd don’t blow their noses without a risk assessment and a method statement. Your girls will grow having the best childhood ever and when they’re parents themselves will tell their children what a fantastic time they had. I hope you paid Rosa well because with a gorgeous face like that and the looks she can give she’ll make a brilliant actress. Fabulous family.

lol yea you should def check it, looks like a lovely job but don’t be fooled by the size that would have not been cheap ! He has some seriously expensive tech, that’s gone in, my brother-in law just built something very similar, he’s not short of a bob or two but even he said despite working out all the costs he wish he hadn’t bothered, the thing is a massive amount of money & even with all the latest advances it’s still expensive to run.

Cheapest way is a reinforced concrete slab and 9” hollow concrete blocks filled with concrete and re-bar… Last pool I dug was in 2017 down in doddongton, cambs, it’s still not finished as they realised the cost as soon as we dug 250t of earth out and poured 48 cube of concrete just for foundations….

For the pool I would suggest laying out a set of stairs about a meter wide into the design, which means that next to it you can make a flat loungy space for the length of the stairs where you can sit/lie on and still have your head above water,or you can corner it off for a hottub/whirlpool construction.

I would have loved to have helped you dig that as a kid. Like a big adventure! Failing the pool not happening, I still reckon you could make a small skate park out of plywood, or (once it's shored up), it could be a cinema space! That said a pool would be awesome but I understand the running costs aren't cheap! PS - Rosa's 'Bambi eyes' are 😂👌🏼 And she's obviously been taking money lessons from Eden!

Hi Tim, I don't know about pools, but I have built my own pond. A lot of the stuff used on ponds, is actually designed for pools. Before pouring in the concrete base, you will want to first fix the bottom drains. All the pipework is just solvent weld pressure pipe, the same principle as waste pipe, except the wall thickness is thicker.

Tim this is such a great opportunity, Virtu solar thermal pvt to heat it and then use it as a massive thermal mass for heating the rest of the house through ventilation with heat recovery. Ooooh so many options! ICFs are great, we built our own extension out of them and can't wait to do a full build with it.
@TheRestorationCouple
@TheRestorationCouple 2 месяца назад
That's how we started out but not so effective in practice, plus could be years before commissioned. It will still be used as a heat store from excess solar but just not in conjunction with house.

The last large floor we did sub-grade for, the Province had recently changed some building/labour regulations after an industrial incident involving a *massive* warehouse (measure in acres, not square meters) where there was an issue with exhaust fumes and lack of oxygen. Despite having 2 out of 4 walls being overhead doors the whole length, and open, concrete trucks were not allowed to drive inside to do the pour, they had to run chutes in as far was they could go, which then required buggies to move material to the farthest corners. A huge pain. Not sure if they’ve relaxed the requirements or made allowance for natural ventilation. It’s been Quite Some Time since I was involved in a project of that scope. Certainly makes the whole project easier to plan and execute when you can move gear unhindered in the workspace. I’ll note that things like gravel trucks, diggers, loaders, and tractors could still operate without restriction… the new regs were strictly for concrete operations.

As you seem to have got a swimming pool you didn't expect I watched Robert Llewellyn's Fully Charged Show video title "Can you HEAT & POWER a big house with RENEWABLES?" It shows a house that uses its swimming pool as an overflow heat store. Maybe something to consider as a fringe benefit. I'd add the link but youtube doesn't like it.

Look at ICF… Nudura offers forms with one side insulated (which will be helpful with warming costs) and the other is what you’d have as interior facing side/no foam. RU-vid channel Cutting Edge Hones… the guy knows a lot about ICF and uses it exclusively for pools.

I think what you did with the kids was great. You accessed the risk and your kids will love you for it. I have a pool that is 4 foot 6 inches deep (I am old school) and I would suggest that you try a salt water pool. Salt water is much cheaper than the normal chlorine pools. and the salt is added on most systems I have seen here automatically. So you have less time trying to get the right balance of chemicals, too much chlorine can kill if you over cook it, no risk like that with salt. Also salt water (so they say) is good for the skin, I am no doctor so do your own research. An independent heat recovery system for the pool would be the cheapest way to keep the temp and humidity just how you need/want it. As always thanks for posting

How ridiculous! Anyone who has watched your videos at all over the years with a teaspoon of common sense would realise you aren't going to put your kids at serious risk. It's good to get them involved, getting mucky and having fun. We can already see your eldest is taking an interest and wanting to get stuck in. I'd be much more worried for my future kids spending too much time on a tablet than coming home with bumps and grazes.

Plus yeah I am a H&S expert with a BSc (Hons) in Occ H&S Management. So no supports; imposed load of extra soil on edge; imposed load of parked digger; digger vibration will disrupt soil. I went to some trench rescues and ‘rescue’ was not the appropriate word.
