A quick video of me digging through a box of rare Reggae records with one hand and trying to film with the other followed by a more in depth look at what I bought when I returned home. I hope you enjoy this video. Please leave a thumbs up if you like any of the records I found today.

Reggae collector and reggae/dub DJ here sir. I was excited for you. I've had similar amazing finds, especially with the Blue Beat label, but not for quite a few years.

Right place at the right time, that's a descent selection of 7" vinyl you found. Over the yrs those are the type of vinyl records I have cleared out my collection, so I'm not surprised they ended up at a car boot... If I'm correct Jamaica's vinyl output per capita production wise was second only to the U.S. globally, making Jamaica a musical super power...Great video...

Agreed, if you are out looking then you have a chance. It's interesting what you said about Jamaica's vinyl output I never thought of it like that. All the best. 👍

I wish that had of been me. What a lifetime find!!! My words! This is exactly why we look for records in the first place. I've had one or two holy grail moments but what you have found here is golden treasure. Well done, great find !

What you have there is a 'Treasure Isle' of tunes haha they are the soundtrack of my youth and a few of those are in my late Mother's collection. The crazy colours on the labels take me back! BLUE BEAT Records was Chris Blackwell's first label before setting up Island, featuring mostly imported Ska tunes for the West Indian market that was building here. At the time his operation was run from a small office in Kilburn, NW London with the address showing on the label. In 1962 he set up ISLAND Records which gave him greater control over the music being released. The label grew exponentially thanks to Reggae as it became more popular in the UK, by the mid 60s he was signing groups like Traffic etc. and moved most of his reggae catalogue to its new subsidiary TROJAN Records, though by the early-mid 70s Bob Marley, Third World and other major Reggae acts were signed to Island directly. By this time he came across rivalry in the shape of the Palmer brothers, who in the late 60s set up PAMA Records in Harlesden, NW London and got similar chart success with their productions. Special mention to Duke Reid's TREASURE ISLE Records, any disc with the '33 Bond St., Kingston JA' address on it belonged to Reid, and probably a subsidiary to Treasure Isle. Some great records in there, treat them well they deserve it!

Thank you for such an interesting and informative reply. I love hearing these facts and back stories. The sound of the music is obviously the main draw but it's so good to hear about the history of the artists and labels etc. I enjoyed or reply very much. All the best.

I’m a reggae collector in Canada and that is the draft a lifetime! Some of those are worth five quid and some are worth fifty, especially those Fab singles Take it easy is most likely a Prince Buster rocksteady track

Thanks for tuning in all the way from Canada and letting me know about the prices etc. It's appreciated. 👍

Mega! Youve done it again, very sought after. Most reggae is battered, so the condition is standard.

Blue Beat tend to be very early releases of early ska. These days Rock Steady is generally more valuable but at that price these were a steal. Blue Beat, Dice, duke and FAB are subsidiaries of the British melodisc records. Trojan and island were both Chris Blackwell imprints.

Thank you for taking the time to leave nice informative comments. I need to go away and try and better understand the difference between ska and rock steady.

An enviable find. I got a load of reggae singles from a local charity shop about five years ago for very little. You had me reaching for the 'Record Collector Price Guide'. It seems the Roscoe Brown single is rare. The eternal question of course is if you actually like the music.
@thevinylvault
@thevinylvault Месяц назад
Thank you for your nice comments and I am pleased you also had a good find at the charity shop. Thanks for also looking in the 'Record Collector Guide' I will check out the Roscoe Brown Single. I am not sure if I will like them all but I do like the sound of the old Reggae, I might be alone here but a little crackle when playing gives it a feel of authenticity in my mind.

The Bobby Atkin, Buster's Group is a good one. It doesn't say on the record but it's produced by Prince Buster. Prince Buster had a hit-song called "Madness". The band Madness named their band after the Prince Buster song "Madness", and also covered the song with some success. Madness also had a lot of success with another Prince Buster song called " One step beyond". By the way Prince Busters real name was awesome dude, Cecil Eustace Bustamante Campbell. You do get a lot of these types of reggae/ska/easy-beat in England because the mods and skinheads were into it so they actually had UK releases but they played them to death normally. I'd say out of the hundred or so blue beat singles I have only around 20 of them are mint, 40 are playable with no skips but some crackles and pops and 40 (which are the really rare valuable ones lol) are pretty trashed. I've been grabbing them when sensibly priced for 30 years so even though more common than many other genres of reggae in England they aren't exactly everywhere. When you see them in those kind of boxes at boot-sales you know they need rescuing anyway dude lol. I'll give you a tip, check out the FAB 110 you have on Discogs website. Type in the following The Max Group - Abraham Vision / My Heart Was Breaking Down. That has a low price of £32, a median of £75 and a high sold price of £93.26. There are also zero for sale on Discogs website anywhere in the world so....

Thank you so much for your very comprehensive reply sharing your knowledge about Prince Buster & Madness etc. It's nice to get comments from someone that has been collecting for 30 years. I will check Discogs as per your recommendation and see what's going down. Again thank you for taking the time to write in detail and I am sorry my response is not a little longer it's just I have about 100 other comments to reply to. All the best and good hunting!

Orange Street, Is In London, Israelites was a number one, so was Double Barrel. Djago - Rebel Train on Duke DU 134. The Island one Is Owen Gray - Patrica the originals were not dated 1962 like the one You have there. And It Is number two as Lord Creator - Independant Jamaica Calypso Is WI 001. Yvette - Hear Oh Lord Is the only one on "H" label. They are mostly Pop Reggae, but still nice find.
