Agates with bands that you can feel or look and feel textured are referred to ventifact banding. The minerals in between the bands were slightly softer so the eroded away faster.
Have you considered trying aquarium gravel as tumbling media? Your love for every little interesting rock in these barrels reminds me of myself and my 6 year old, as we sometimes spend as much time looking at our gravel as we do whatever rocks we're tumbling! ❤️ We get the large stuff from Petco.
I hunt for Native American artifacts and have learned a lot these last few years! I have been thinking about tumbling some rocks which led me to your channel. Some of the rocks you have shown are actually artifacts! Not everything was a tool or weapon, they actually made small little things to use for trading or as offerings to their spirits they believed in. They took and piled them up on other rocks or in little places in trees and holes. If you take and turn the rocks at all angles you will see it’s an animal head or even a human face. Usually their are multiple things in one rock. If you look up Potable Rock Art or effigies you will see some of what I’m talking about, however they don’t show alot of the very small ones, they can be very , very tiny. I have seen a lot of rock videos where you can easily see the faces and they look neat tumbled! Just give it a try sometime and see if you see anything. I noticed the one agate that had the crystal ontop has 2 faces in it, that’s just an example for you.
The rock at 4:49 I think is Bauxite which is an ore of aluminum. It might be magnetic and will smell like wet clay when you breath on it cupped in hands. It probably wouldn't tumble well because it tends to be brittle.
@@AgateAriel You might have some luck putting it to a lapidary grinder. I find it fairly often well south of you along the Cedar. I am wondering though what you find in the way of sandstone up there? It can look really nice but it's soft...maybe between MOHS 3-5? Sometimes it looks like picture jasper in color and pattern.
That was pretty cool. I would have kept all those cool looking granite rocks too. They were quite beautiful. But there were so many rocks to look through. Where do you get your rocks from? They are pretty darn awesome!
Three buckets!!! The might be finget licking good... but I wouldn't. I liked the lady best. Thanks for sharing. Can't wait for the tumble. Happy Halloween! 🎃👻☠🧟♀️😷⚒
